keymaker Posted February 18 Posted February 18 (edited) Hi, I present my newest creation – Jeep Wrangler, but with tracks. It is loosely based on Lego set 42122. I built it mostly because I wanted check if such idea can be done in such small scale. And it looks like it can! Here as usual I tried to do something new. I wanted to check if tracks, small ones, can work in such scale, both from mechanical and off-road capability point of view. Apart from standard features (AWD, full suspension, steering, RC, working engine) I always try to fit into my creations something new. Model has tracks mounted on modules which can move, but in limited range, to avoid full spin. You can see it on the video below, starting from 1:27. I consider this as a nice addition to idea of tracked vehicles and I didn't it in other similar lego models. The rest is standard list of features I mentioned earlier and will list below the video. Hidden into the body of famous Jeep Wrangler. I tried to improve a little shape of original model 42122, but I'm not sure I succeded. Snow on the video is rather hard opponent, so I need to admit that Jeep in such configuration wasn't off-road king. Nonetheless it gave me fun to drive it here and there. Below you can find video and list of features and details. Enjoy. Instructions: LINK General details scale: 1:16 dimensions LxWxH: 29x13,5x15cm weight: 871g Features: RC front axle steering (C+ L motor) RC 4x4 drive (2xC+ L motor) Winch with lock 4-link live axle suspension for all 4 tracks 4 studs ground clearance Openable all doors, tailgate and hood Working V6 engine with fan Detailed front part of the cabin Powered by Buwizz 3.0 but also prepared to be powered by standard C+ Hub Photos: LINK My Jeep Wrangler is powered by Buwizz 3.0, but there is no problem to use standard C+ Lego battery box. _Electro_ Posted February 18 Posted February 18 So many functions and details, I like SUVs in this scale Quote
Aurorasaurus Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Clean! I think the look could be improved by increasing the width of the axles, more like 42069. But the functionality for this little model is impressive. Everyone seems to be making little models these days... Quote
Krxlion Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Great showcase of tracked vehicle here! I really love all those shots in the wilderness, and you have clearly proven that in many scenarios this wrangler, with normal wheels, would give up. The model is very well-built, with a lot of functions, for a scale this small. I also like your presentation, easy to digest, both video and text - you did a great job with this project! Quote
gyenesvi Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Very cool little model! I have always wanted an RC wrangler (on wheels) in this scale with proper suspension features but never managed to squeeze it all in the tight space. You did a great job, I like how the electronics are placed and routed. Even having a working engine is great! Would a similar layout also work with wheels? Or is there something special about the tracks that enabled this model (apart from being more useful in the snow)? I like the rugged look, and by the way, the 1L liftarm in yellow is finally available this year, along with all the micropanels, those could be used to polish it here and there! Quote

Modules with tracks can be easily removed and you can put there whatever wheels will fit. Tracks in this scale were the whole point of creating this MOC. I wanted to build such machine and check if this is reasonable, possible and if it will work on acceptable level. Quote
