brickbride Posted Sunday at 04:46 AM Posted Sunday at 04:46 AM (edited) Some more observations on the sets: Little Garden: Dorry's axe looks completely wonky, the blade is nearly as long as the handle, wtf is that about? And does Zoro not have Wado? You can see Kitetsu on the front picture and both Kitetsu and Yubashiri on the back of the box, but no white sword. I also don't like the giants' faces (although they're much, much better than the faces HP got for such abominations like Hagrid's Motorbike Accident and the new Flying Ford, but that's a very low bar.) The cloaks for the giants are a nice touch, though. Also this might be the only set in which the Zoro minifig's terrible smirky faceprint is actually sort of appropriate (although then he should still have yellow paint on his pant leg, and not be wielding his swords). Drum Island: I'd like to see the castle from the back because I suspect it's pretty much a facade (like the Arlong Park pagoda). Nice fig selection, though Vivi's and Luffy's coats now look like shirts because of no leg printing. (Not that LEGO would know how to properly print bright light orange on dark blue.) Marine Ship: That scene did so not happen in the live action but for a marine ship it's the best possible choice - giving us Garp's iconic ship, the Zoro vs Tashigi duel (in which he used only one sword not the three he's shown using on the box), and the rest of the missing straw hats from the Loguetown set. Of course now I'm truly annoyed that this particular cash grab by LEGO means you can't complete Loguetown without buying a completely unnecessary marine ship. Nope, I'm not going to start collecting this theme. Loguetown: This is actually the set I'd like the most but see above. It just feels so incomplete and includes none of my favourite characters. If they'd just split up Loguetown into two sets (say, Sanji/Luffy/Smoker/Dragon with the bike and a fish market build, and Zoro/Tashigi/Nami/Usopp with the sword store, map seller, and phone booth) so you could make your own Loguetown mini modular with all the characters I might be sorely tempted. But there's no way I'm buying a butt-ugly marine ship (not LEGO's fault, it just looks like that in Canon) I don't need in order to complete Loguetown so no Loguetown it is. Buildable Chopper: desperately trying to be cute IMO and absolutely uninteresting to me. You know what that face looks like? Not Chopper. Instead it looks like one of those buildable store signs for Friends. Check out 41691 (Doggy Day Care) and tell me I'm wrong. Chopper's Hideout: definitely the best set overall in terms of design and minifig selection. It's just that I don't care for either of these people all that much so I'd have no use for it. But hey, now your kids can play "Chopper poisons his father figure with deadly mushrooms and Kureha is left to pick up the pieces" with all the participants of the scene! (I'm not really joking because it's not as if Kureha would hang out there in any other circumstances.) Edited Sunday at 04:52 AM by brickbride Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted Sunday at 02:08 PM Posted Sunday at 02:08 PM Depending on how soon S3 arrives, I could see them releasing a small wave to fill in some gaps. What would you like to see in such a wave? My suggestions: Whisky Peak Battle: part of the saloon plus the ice cream truck with Mr 9, Igaram, Mr 5, and Miss Valentine Buildable Laboon with Krokus (and Mr 9 if he wasn‘t in the set above) Kaya‘s mansion with her, Merry, and Kuro (not the full building though, maybe the wine cellar or the kitchen!) Another Loguetown set with Bartolomeo, Buggy, and Alvida The marine fort from the first episode with long-haired Helmeppo and Morgan Hopefully the theme is successful enough to continue as long as the show does! These are all good suggestions (though personally if I had it my way Kaya's mansion could maybe be a slightly bigger open-backed "dollhouse style" set with a function to raise/lower the security shutters on the front windows). An additional idea: A small-ish set of the Drum Island village siege with Dalton and Kureha in her present-day outfit, along with Usopp and Sanji in their winter wear. Quote

I really like your ideas, but I’m not so sure about the likelihood of that one I mean Shanks is obviously already a crucial character in Luffy’s backstory, but so far he and his crew have not been focused on in the present that much. At least not enough to have a $140 set dedicated to them! And another flashback set seems a bit like overkill. We already have two kid Luffys after all While I like having a new ship per wave, I also don’t think it’s a necessity going forward. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted Tuesday at 12:21 PM Posted Tuesday at 12:21 PM (edited) S3 has just been confirmed for next year! On the one hand, I’m glad we can continue at a nice pace, but I would really appreciate a wave of missing S1 & 2 stuff. This will most likely remain a “one wave a year” type theme, so unless they have some space in the line-up of Alabasta sets, this will be tricky! Well, maybe they will? Sounds like they’ll “only” adapt the Alabasta arc in that season, so I expect there to be a bit less variety compared to the 1-3 episode arcs of S1 & 2, meaning they might add some S1 & 2 stuff for the sake of variety ^^ Edited Tuesday at 01:31 PM by BrickBob Studpants Quote

Scarilian Posted Tuesday at 03:00 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:00 PM Hideout Best set, would have liked the more iconic design for Kureha Chopper Buildable figure face and horns look off, easy skip. Loguetown Would prefer they removed upper layer of the sword shop and gave us the statue. Little Garden muddled. The piece for giants arms needs articulation! Can't replicate majority of big moments without purchasing other sets or because the characters needed were not made. Miss Valentine is the main glaring exception as she allows Usopp to break them out the candlewax and arguably his most iconic moment of the episodes. It's fundamentally what ties the action of Little Garden together connecting Usopp facing off against Miss Goldenweek with Usopp's battle at the candle. Drum Island Castle not really explored in live-action. Interior where the action takes place is limited to 6 stud wide plates to tell its story. Disjointed nature to the layout. Rather than the fireplace being in the same room as the throne with room above it to hang the flag... it's on the lower layer with the throne on the top layer. It also weirdly draws from the anime by having the flag be on a flag pole, which because of the piece used, is going to make it tricky for MOC's to actually have the flag displayed above a fireplace without the connectors looking odd. Ship would pair well with the Going Merry, with Nami, Usopp and Zoro all wearing what they wear in that opening scene. Nico Robin is mostly here to sell the set to collectors. Tashigi feels like she's here as an incentive to get the Loguetown set, which admittedly does pair well with this giving you the missing Straw Hats and Smoker. Alabasta is unfortunately packed with new characters, so the chances of us getting all of them are slim even if the wave only focused on Alabasta. I think the big set of the wave could be based on prior seasons though and Whisky Peak would be a perfect choice to fill out missing figures: Zoro, Mihawk (Repeat), Mr.9, Igaram, Miss Monday, Mr.5, Miss Valentine, Miss All Sunday (Outfit she had on the boat) Honestly though they need to do a One Piece CMF series in order for us to revisit a lot of the characters. Lyichir Posted Tuesday at 05:15 PM Posted Tuesday at 05:15 PM I do expect they'll absolutely make a Sunny if and when the live action show gets to that point, though. For that matter, I also think that when the live action gets to Skypeia that'll be the perfect time for a "refresh" of the Going Merry set, this time with the wings and with more of the crew. 42 minutes ago, Lion King said: Sorry if my quesiotn is found dumb but due to my visual impairment.- is this One Piece based off Netflix’s live action or the classic anime? Basically this. I don't know why Lego is still so aggressively allergic to adapting anything anime / manga but clearly those outsell most cartoons / modern comics today. Even Marvel and DC comics can't compete anymore with for example One Piece. I am legitemately convinced that anime based sets would sell so much better than the live action stuff, despite it's current trendyness on Netflix, One Piece never had to rely on trends to stay relevant. People will forget about the LA again in a month or so and will go back to watching the anime. Making a Sunny with the current Straw Hats would do so well. It would be the first time I actually wouldnt care about a price tag! And as others have pointed out, some of the LA sets would go together with anime based sets, as a lot of characters are very faithfully adapted anyway. Edited Tuesday at 07:35 PM by kevkipo Quote
MKJoshA Posted Wednesday at 07:42 AM Posted Wednesday at 07:42 AM The Netflix show is a really good sign for more One Piece sets. I could see them pulling a "Rebuild the Galaxy" like they did with Star Wars and give us Anime versions of certain characters that show up in sets connected with the Netflix special. It also gives me hope that Lego will make some sets to fill in the current gaps for Seasons 1 and 2. Quote

It could also end up as a more bittersweet thing if they don’t revisit the first two seasons, since the special will absolutely feature characters that don’t have minifigs yet Fingers crossed they will release more sets tho! Also, I’ve seen rumours swirling around that S3 will only have 6 episodes. That’d be excellent in terms of LEGO, since fewer episodes would mean more space for S1 & 2 sets in the line-up! As for the anime: Unpopular opinion perhaps, but I don’t like the idea of mixing up live-action and anime sets. I prefer them focussing on the Netflix show ^^ Sure, we’ll probably never get a Thousand Sunny that way, but who knows? Maybe we’re underestimating their plans Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Fingers crossed the rumours were true and the official reveal is today! I need to see every detail Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago The sets can be pre-ordered on s@h! Well, except for the Marine ship and the Little Garden set, but they‘ll likely be added soon ^^ Quote
