Surely the vessels are a perfect candidate for LEGO sets of any size.

Going for the bridge is a smart move since another Enterprise would be way too soon  Sure, the ships look different, but the concept is too similar in its essence. The bridge is just as recoginsable (if not more so than the ship itself!) and thus makes for an excellent companion set!

Bluebrixx was pumping out the big (and medium, and small) ships as fast as they could. Maybe they had a gut feeling they wouldn't be able to hold on to the license for very long, maybe they were just milking the cash cow for everything they could. For the sake of my wallet, I'm happy for Lego to take a slower approach. My wanted list is far too long already. Still, a TOS bridge with minifigs is certainly a must-buy set for me.

I'm excited to see a bridge set.

Personally, Star Trek would be very well suited for a midi "Starship Collection" scale line (with some minifgs included of course). Doing big ships, there's no way they'll do even close to everything people would want, but at midi scale they can pump out ships from all different factions and shows and get through quite a lot, IMO.

I completely agree and hope they go this route.

It's interesting, if true, that for TOS they're 'only' doing a a bridge and not the entire ship as well.

Like others have said, two large and expensive Enterprises within a short amount of time would a bit much. Even those people who like both TOS and TNG probably have their favourite and might not want to buy both if the sets are too similar. And TNG wins that race not because it's any better but because the people who grew up with it are in that perfect "fourty-something nostalgic adult" range that LEGO just loves to milk for all they're worth.

@BrickBob Studpants and @brickbride, you make good points.
The bridge set will certainly be something to look forward to. And who knows, an actual Enterprise may appear in the future

I did actually skip the Enterprise-D, even though I, indeed, grew up with TNG and it, and the subsequent movies and Picard are my favorites of the bunch.
Maybe those minifigs will appear later in smaller sets as well :sweet:

Mitch

Absolutely. Plus from a space perspective it just means collecting this subtheme doesn’t require copious amounts of real-estate. It’s one of my misgivings with how Lord of the Rings is being handled; all the sets are absolutely magnificent, but they’re also massive and collecting them can be a headache if one doesn’t have the space for it.

A bridge set sounds brilliant, I didn’t grow up with TOS but this is nonetheless a set I would buy as I’m still attached to the characters. I wonder if they’ll introduce a phaser mould this time.
