SNIPE Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 (edited) Progress: LEGO are late (as usual) with the bestseller parts order from pick-a-brick... Edited December 17, 2024 by SNIPE Quote
NV Lego technic Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Heave you tested the gearbox? I heard that those pieces are sensitive to high speed and torque. Quote

I think I built it correctly yes also I forgot to mention, nice work @astyanax especially using that wall hanger frame on page 424, I have 8 of these and seldom use them so someone finally put them in a model Quote
zonoskar Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 (edited) Working on the Extra Pimped parts list when you do have the original set and want to build in in the BLO color: https://rebrickable.com/users/zonoskar/lists/429543/ But there are many pieces in red in @astyanax's MOC that are not available in BLO, like the bionicle eye piece, the flexible hoses and 1x13 liftarm. So I'm not sure if I'll be building this MOC, also because the pieces from the above list are going to be around 200 euro on top of the Lego set. The MOC uses a few expensive pieces like the DBG panels in the dash (6.5 euro per piece) and the exhaust is also 20-25 euro, maybe I can brick-build this piece. I just got the set, so I'm building it over the next few weeks and keep an eye on the diff with the extra pimped build. Edited December 20, 2024 by zonoskar Quote

Just build the rear cover as per the original instructions. 11 minutes ago, zonoskar said: the flexible hoses Again, these are added as part of Red solutions for panels exclusive in BLO. Just follow original instructions in these places. 12 minutes ago, zonoskar said: 1x13 liftarm This is the reverse case. There are some places where a 13L liftarm fits but wasn't used. Just revert to the original solution. Same for the +O liftarm. 15 minutes ago, zonoskar said: expensive pieces like the DBG panels in the dash These should be cheap from PaB. 16 minutes ago, zonoskar said: the exhaust is also 20-25 euro Yeah I had this one lying around. Just try incorporating the original exhaust. :) Quote
SNIPE Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 (edited) I was going to suggest using this part as an exaust but i later realized that it only comes in trans clear and is a rare-ish/old part Maybe there's something else that can be used. Also, for some crazy unknown reason, the flappy paddle shifter was not shifting but I tested the gearbox before building any further and it shifted fine then, so now I had to take the engine, gearbox, paddle shifter, and a bunch of small structural assemblies out of the chassis :( and I still don't know where I went wrong... nor am I particularly enthusiastic about having to reassemble it all and then continuing with the front axle and dashboard... SNIPE Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 (edited) It's back together! The paddle shifter still isn't working but i'll have to rip it out again later anyhow..... Edited December 23, 2024 by SNIPE Quote
jacobcooper488 Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Merry Christmas all, I'm nearly done with the mod in BLO! Quote
langko Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Well I picked up this set for a decent discount around the Christmas period and I can't say I'm very impressed with it in person... A lot of talk about the front but there's a lot elsewhere that looks half done as well. The interior is shocking with half the bottom sides of the seats missing and gears chomping through the passenger seat as well. The rear spoiler looks terrible with the mix of LBO/LBG/BLACK and the surrounding parts of the clamshell look unfinished too. Some really interesting and random colours used as well... like the and in the rear clamshell. Why?? Especially when the blue one exists in LBO as well... Anyways... Can't do much about the interior without a lot of internal re-design, and I frankly can't be bothered playing around with the front. But here's my quick ideas at improving the rear... The wing and all pieces under it have been converted to black. Then the paneling around the large frame has been changed to fill it in more. On the plus side the spoiler mechanism works quite nicely and I love the doors. The gearbox was quite refreshing and interesting as well. But overall this will most likely go in the parts bin for MOC's. Quote

I knew what I was getting into so I didn't even bother spending money on the full set. I just got the generic parts (like gear shifters and A-pillars) and then simply reused my Red inventory. I enjoyed building the gearbox; my first experience with the new shifter parts. Then I made cosmetic fixes (including front and seats) until I ran out of steam. (Modifications on Rebrickable and photos on Bricksafe.) I'm a huge supercar fan -- obviously -- but somehow I can't wait to disassemble this one again. The model just doesn't really seem to have that wow-factor. The Huayra had the "exploded" view, the Daytona SP3 had a gorgeous engine. I loved having them close and glancing at them made me happy. The real McLaren P1 is a pretty car indeed, but it just doesn't have that extra thing that makes its translation into a Lego model special... Very personal opinion of course! 930 Turbo Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Hello all! Ive been building my 42172 and just got the paddles mounted. My gearbox is clicking and wont spin the engine (wheels locking as well not to mention). Wondering what could be causing this, im usually very good with gearboxes and the likes. However, these new parts are still a sort of uncharted territory for me, any help would be appreciated! P.S. -has anybody done any mods to strengthen the paddle shifter mechanism? seems weak to me... Awesome to see you brought it back to Bright Light Orange! I'm sure we'd all love to see more closeups of your mods, especially the transition from headlight to wheel arch. Quote
jacobcooper488 Posted January 28 Posted January 28 @astyanax Yeah, I'll send some more pics. Also, I'm working on some more mods to fill various ugly gaps. And I'm going to order some more blo beams to fix the black color on the inside of the hood, we had to transfer some pieces to make the headlight transition work. Quote
SNIPE Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) Someone made an adjustable rear spoiler tiny-mod: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-209501/avastyecookie/mclaren-p1-42712-adjustable-rear-wing-and-drs-mod/#details Not sure if its worth even doing though Edited January 30 by SNIPE Quote

Timewhatistime Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Hi there, everyone posting in this thread is an owner of 42172, so there should be someone who can answer my question... ;-) Does part 3590 (green 12 t geat with clutch) mesh with the 20 t double bevel gear? Or does the gear ring prevent it from meshing correctly? It seems to be designed to mesh with cog wheels, but since I do not own any of the new 20 t cog wheels, I'd prefer the old standard 20 t double bevel gear... Thanks in advance! Quote
