OttoRiver Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 Wonder what the cancelled playset this set is taking the place of. The interview says the changed from display to playset was last minute, I wonder what that means in the world of Lego manufacturing.
TheFriedChimken Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 Excluding the Lego Ideas 100 years of Disney set, are there anymore upcoming Disney leaks known to contain minfigures???

I hadn't heard of it. Any ideas when to expect it? Luckily I haven't bought snow white cottage yet and I could wait for the geo.

I dunno, after the recent Maleficient situation, not sure if there will be much else coming from the Disney line that would appeal to me if Disney will return to being almost solely minidolls (I respect that others may feel different to me, I just didn't grow up with minidolls so they don't connect with me like minifigs do). 2 hours ago, Agent Kallus said: But 2 Kimbas wouldn't? (Simbas) To be honest the two 'Kimbas', in my opinion, is a similar case to the Maleficient situation except being more so about cost and availability of space than style. Got the funds and the room from a somewhat sizable Simba, hooray you can have the bigger Simba and maybe the small Simba; if not, you can have a smaller Simba or maybe you just find the smaller Simba cuter. Personally not into sculpture/model (probably not the right words) sets as I'm limited in space and would rather have a build I could display my minifigures in/on, so I do apologise if my thoughts on the whole Simba situation are non-sensical.
karrit Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 I'm guessing the survey results indicated that a Maleficent Display set was shown at too high of a price point for people to buy that resulted in the downgrade to the minidoll playset we are getting. The Simba display sets aren't of any interest to me so that's two products I won't be buying. I'm guessing that the kids would much rather have a Lion King Playset with a few more characters from the movies like Timon & Pumbaa so two competing Simba display models is a weird choice in my opinion. All the Wish sets seem to have tanked. I bought the two smaller ones at a discount. I still can't bring myself to buy King Magnifico's Palace which even at 50% off it seems overpriced to me. The Advent Calendar being Microdolls is a no buy. I don't collect Brickheadz. Don't need yet another Ice Palace. The upcoming Little Mermaid sets look like they should be Duplo. And the slide on the latest Tangled set just ruins it for me but then again as an adult I'm not the Target audience. The Inside out set is just bizarre.

The thing is, the 2 Kimbas to me seem to fill more of the same niché than the 2 Maleficent dragons would have.

Totally agree! I wonder if the reason for scrapping the set is because of anticipated poor sales, or because it might conflict with another project/ set (Disney or otherwise)? I feel like after a few fantastic Disney 100 months, the mini fig-based sets have come to a screeching halt.

I wouldn't think it would be from a concern of poor sales - the Snow White and even the small Peter Pan display set seem to have done well - but who knows. Maybe they realised it was an untapped set idea that hadn't been explored upon yet for the Disney Princess line so Lego went with that direction instead. I see the 'halt' as well - which I would have personally been fine with if it didn't feel like the Disney 100 line was going somewhere, as suggested by a few sets in my opinion (exclusion of Cinderella's castle as the new and OG one have always included easter eggs). hikouki Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Brick Clicker is saying that the cancelation of the Maleficent minifig set had to do with the fact that another minidoll set was canceled the last minute, and something had to take its place. So the Maleficent set was converted into a mini doll set??? Disney minifigs are just an afterthought???
jonwil Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Bought both Simba sets yesterday and I just finished assembling the small one and its amazing. Looking forward to assembling the big one :) I haven't built it yet but the big Simba may well end up getting my vote for the best set of 2024.
hikouki Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 (edited) Is it possible to 'translate' the minidoll version of Prince Phillip into minifigure form? I am still bummed out that Lego decided to cancel the minifig set. I could find dual-molded red legs with black boots but could not find brown legs with black boots. I am wondering if some of the older medieval torsos will match the minidoll as well. The medieval torsos with similar clothing that I could find, have tattered patches. Edited June 9, 2024 by hikouki

I had a look for you and found some dual molded legs with dark brown (not reddish brown unfortunately) and black boots; however, it is a printed piece. You could very much swap out the hip piece for a clean one, but as for the boots you would probably need to take an eraser to remove the printing if you are happy to do something like that. Checked the price on bricklink and it seems pretty cheap for a new set. https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=970c00pb0898#T=S&C=120&O={"color":120,"ss":"AU","cond":"N","iconly":0} I want to do a similar thing myself but more so recreating the cancelled set - also want to try and create a moc of Sleeping Beauty's castle to go with it.
JohnTPT17 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 We now have a little more info about the Target-exclusive fan design set: 21352 - Disney 100 Celebration - 1103 pieces - $99.99 - October 1st I'm not going to get excited for it until we get some info about whatever figs will be with it, but if this set basically replaces the Villains Icons set (another Target exclusive at a similar price point which retires at the end of this year), I think there's a chance we get three or four minifigs in there. Maybe we finally get Belle? Eh, any speculation is just going to let me hopes down later...

If it comes without any or just 1 new one, I might pass on it too.
doclord Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 I really can't see them reusing or downgrading the CMF figures that the submission had (which was borderline questionable in the first place) so I'm expecting zero figures or an overhaul that adds some highly desired, possibly early-access figures.
OttoRiver Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Given the likelihood the set was voted for specifically because it was the only one with minifigures, I doubt they would just cut all of them. Worst case scenario is all the figures are repeats, best case scenario is new prints/variants for the figures and potentially even more added to the roster. It would be nice to get a Beast to go with Belle for example and they already have the Beast head mold created.
Jarreth2 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Given that Target is in the USA .. what will all us non US folk do to obtain the set ? 🤷🏻♂️ The Disney board has become eerily silent as of late .. I’m guessing The Nightmare Before Christmas set will reignite things ? 😁

Fingers crossed for some juicy leaks soon.
TheFriedChimken Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I've noticed that with the latest Disney Princess sets that they have reintroduced the Belle hairpiece as plastic, as well as a new hairpiece for Ariel - also in plastic. Does this suggest that we may be getting a minifigure form of the two princesses (updated variation for Ariel) in the ideas set? I don't keep up with stuff regarding mini-dolls, so I don't know if overall Lego is moving from rubber pieces to plastic across all mini doll related sets or they have introduced these plastic pieces for Disney minidolls alone with intentions of minifigures (like how Tiana, Cinderella and Aurora's hairpieces now being used for the minidoll princesses). Sorry if such a dumb question, I'm new to the whole leaks and rumours thing so I just wanted to know how those more experienced with examing these things would go about viewing this 🙂

Almost all (if not all) of the new hairpieces introduced in the Friends theme since the reboot have been hard plastic. The rubbery ones get phased out more and more, which is a good development The new ones are just way more consistent and versatile!

Thank you heaps for clarifying!!! 😊 Well in that case I might get a hold of the new Ariel and Belle hairpieces if I can find them somewhere for good value.

Currently 20% off with JL, let's hope that the new Disney set will get a healthy discount as well!
TheFriedChimken Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 (edited) So I'm hoping to "replicate" the Prince Philip minfigure as much as I can from the display set leak. While I've worked out some part, I wanted to get some opinions as to which face printing would best suit. To the left, I tried out the old Cedric Diggory head, and to the right Peter Venkman. I find the Venkman more suited to how emotive other Disney 100 minfigures appear, particularly Aurora (also found that the scared head suits Philip's reaction to Maleficient's transformation), though Cedric's head is certainly more recent and probably more polished in design while having a stern face suited to fighting Maleficient. Any opinions would be much appreciated - or even better recommendations!!! Edited June 23, 2024 by TheFriedChimken
