Hi friends!

For the Main Building Category, I wanted to introduce you to my latest moc: a Caribbean islet that would include both a general store and a shipyard. And while an entire half of the construction is dedicated to the shipyard, suitable for building large ships such as the Barracuda (I used its hull in one render picture to show its capacity), the general store was instead placed on the ground floor of the main building, in the which also features a tavern, an underground room for sleeping and an attic for storing goods.

I have also finished ordering all the pieces and I believe that, within a month, I will also be able to build it live.

I apologize if I haven't been very "garrulous", but I prefer to let the pictures speak :pir_laugh2:

Thanks for your attention :pir-huzzah2:

Holly Brick! You must have started working on this thing like 5 years before this contest started! :P Or You must be the faster Lego designer in the world ;) Very impressive!

I love all those details inside the bulding, like hangers, and outside, like that watter running trough that pipe and making bubbles, or wooden finishes on wheel-maker's hut, honestly, there's so much brilliant stuff here invading my eyes and my mind, that i guess plenty other ideas must be probably hiding from my mind ;) Then again, every viewer will definitely find something more attractive for himself in this set to fall in love with :)

And for a moment, seeing that You've added that galleon on the last photo, i thought that would be included as well. Still, an awesome display!

But, that's also how i see it, it would definitely have to be a collectors' toy to be released the way it is. Therefore i honestly think that this leviathan would work better and be more sellable as a legi Lego offering, if it was divided into a two sets, as a shipyard and a general store separately. Pairing them in just one box is too much in my oppinion.

And actually pairing those two particular insitutions - shipyard and store - is not a choice i'd go with it. I'd let that general store live on it's own, and since it's multi-floor structure it would be cool if it had an option to be be easily turned into separate few one-floor buldings, that could have openable walls. This way one building could be transformed into a small alley of pirate/merchant friendly insitutions.

If shipyard could go in package with other facilities, i think it would work better if it was surrounded by some shops that would actually produce ship equipment. Like cannon makers, sail makers, line makers, mast makers, anchor makers etc.

And then the shipyard itself could actually go with a small ship, Lego sloop or somesuch, that could allow two possible ways to play - as ship's skeleton with different ship parts laying around, that could enable "kids" to easily assemble it and then launch it, or just ot be used as an already finished ship that has been succesfuly launched  onto the sea. Kinda two cool toys in one, like they did with Baracuda Bay.

But this is just how i would try to do it if i'd run pirate department at Lego ;) Your creativity here and manhours invested in this project surely deserve at least a honorary hug from the judges ;)

Hi Mazin and thank you for the compliments and, above all, for the suggestions you gave me, with which I almost completely agree!:pir-huzzah2:

For example, you are right that perhaps the best solution would have been to enhance the two halves of the building separately. In particular, with regard to the shipyard, your idea of building other structure connected to it, such as a cannon factory or other elements relating to ships is excellent. However, I wanted to explain my original idea concerning to this moc, which was originally not designed to participate in this contest, although I started developing it in early July. My idea was to build an islet where there were all the useful buildings to be able to live daily life, from morning until they go to sleep. For this reason, next to the shipyard which is the main place of work, I wanted to add buildings to it that would allow them to eat, sleep, store goods and also buy something for themselves (the general store). So basically, I wanted a "self-sufficient" island, where people who work on it can also live on it. That's why I tried to merge both the shipyard and some "civil" buildings, trying not to make the whole building even bigger than it is.

Having said that, I thank you again because your suggestions have been really valuable and you made me want to start developing new buildings to complement the shipyard!:pir-triumph:

Glad i could of help :) Realy looking forward to see what next You will do with it. And there;s still plenty of time to use Your ideas as new entries. It would be cool if Your other ceations could work together to make something bigger, be set in the same "shipyard"/ self-sufficient" universe ;) Maybe You could try to "sell" some of those equipment shops in the mini build category? :)

Like, for example, every self respected shipbuilders used modelmakers, before constructing the 1:1 size beast. So maybe that's one of the little scene from the shipyard's life that could be passed in that section? I'm saying this cause i saw You've actually put a small model inside Your general store. Right now it's sort concealed within this extreme construction, and i think it would look cool as it;s own little set :)

I hope to see more stuff from You :)

Amazing as always. :pir-love:

There too many great little details here but I'll highlight one or two: the water pipe, with water flowing, on the side of the building... the new crane design and the furniture. Awesome work! :pir-thumb:

@Cincinnati what is the total piece count?

What a masterpiece!  I love all the details you've got here, from the pouring water, to the stone textures on the floor, the use of wood-grained tiles mixed with shades of brown to create a worn board floor on the upper level, the rough stonework that's wearing away outside the building, the ladder, the well-stocked kitchen and bar, the hats and pirate outfits hanging up, the model ship, it's all just so fantastic.

I hope this makes it to Rebrickable, I'd love to build something of this caliber.

Now, does it fit the contest?  This doesn't really look like an official set; it's simply too large.  I'd consider splitting this in two; either the shipyard or the store section would be more reasonably-sized on their own.  Some of the techniques used here don't really feel like Lego, more of a MOC.  But that's a good thing -- just more wonderful details to enjoy!

The roof does seem a bit too nice and well-maintained for a Caribbean establishment, I might go with a red roof like the new Eldorado has.  And there's a lot of diversity of techniques used here; perhaps too many.  I think a particular location would only use one type of brick (dark orange OR dark tan OR white OR dark gray) and one type of roof (the general store roof is better than the shed roof, if you had to pick one), and the ingot floor is completely different than the tile floor above, despite them being in the same building.  I know that it's often nice to use contrasting techniques to keep a build more visually interesting, but it may be just a bit overdone here.  Still, the end result is lovely, so who cares about realism!

Truly excellent, I hope to see more of your creations in the future.

@Mazin

Thanks again for your trust and in a while I will work to create the forge where to build the cannons to arm the ships, as you suggested :pir-laugh:

@Marooned Marin

Hi Marin, are just under 9000 pieces :pir-sweet:

@iragm

Hi Iragm and really thank you for your words :pir-huzzah2:

Actually this build was born as a moc that I would like to build for myself and then later also put on Rebrickable (I always build my mocs first before selling the instructions, to verify that there are no errors or bugs). You are right that there are many build varieties but, unlike your opinion, I believe this is to give greater realism to the structure: in fact, in my mind, I believe that buildings like these built in the 1600s or 1700s, in dispersed islets, were not built all at once but by adding one or more floors over time depending on whether that landing point would then acquire success with the visitors of the place. This is why I wanted to differentiate, for example, the color of the walls on the ground floor and the upper floor. The same goes for the floors: in fact, the floors on the first floor and the attic, which are assumed to have been built at the same time, have both floors and a wooden roof. So, beyond the constructive and chromatic variety that I actually like to reproduce, my idea was to mark the different development of the various floors over time.

Having said that, you are certainly right that this moc is not the best as a possible official Lego set, but in any case I wanted to take part to the contest to present my new moc to the forum.

Thank you again for the appreciation, see you soon:pir-triumph:

I love the idea of making a set where you have all the shops to build a ship, like a lumber yard, Etc... Anyway, about the piece count it was supposed to be under 3000 but... I don't care I love the idea and details, especially the water splashing into the harbor. My only suggestions are to add the dark grey color on the pillar at the bottom as the rest of the rocks are, for a waterline look, my only other problem is logistical I think this is made to represent something like a dry dock, but I believe that the ships themselves were launched to splash into the water not to flood the dry dock, but I'm no expert so feel free to correct me. Anyway, Happy building :) With your excellent building skills.

Looks great! I love the little details you have everywhere and especially the water pouring out of the pipe on the side.

A couple small things I'd suggest:

The roof looks a little too perfect. I see that you have the brown and black pieces to add some interest but you could add a bit more detail to the roof by have a few pieces missing or misshapen to show roof tiles that were blown off or broken.

I like the red an blue awning that you have because it adds a splash of color to the otherwise earth toned building. Maybe consider adding something on the back of the building to add some color there. I'd suggest a colored flag or banner.

Dude, did You pull out of the contest or is Your entry not listed in the index, cause i can't find it? @Mister Phes could add this one please?

We were waiting to see if there were any objections to the part count.

It appears there have been none so I've added it to the Entries Index.

thanx :) i feel that that new monstrosity of a ship in the index might have even more pieces, and it's there, so i guess no problems for this one ;) tho i migt be completely wrong in the piece count, it's just that this one looks smaller to me ;) Also that vessel which wasn't part of the set, but was used for the presentation of the shipyard, might have caused people to think it was much bigger...

Nobody has complained yet - or have I missed a post somewhere?

But Creative Critic feedback is still open so if there are any objections from anyone...

Hi and sorry for the delay in my answer but I had missed the notifications :pir-grin:

I agree with many of your suggestions and will probably modify something along the way as I build it live. However, for example, I will perhaps leave the roof like this, although too symmetrical, because unlike a typical pirate building where there are many less well-maintained elements, this is a civil building, inhabited by workers and therefore I imagined it well maintained by those lived there (as can also be deduced from some construction details such as the fountain or the rose garden). While on the rest I will certainly work on it to improve it:pir-huzzah2:

grazie :) sento che quella nuova mostruosità di una nave nell'indice potrebbe avere ancora più pezzi, ed è lì, quindi immagino che non ci siano problemi per questa ;) anche se potrei sbagliarmi completamente nel conteggio dei pezzi, è solo che questo uno mi sembra più piccolo ;) Anche quella nave che non faceva parte del set, ma era usata per la presentazione del cantiere, avrebbe potuto far pensare che fosse molto più grande...

Many thanks @Mazin for you support!:pir-huzzah2:
