Johnny_Thunderstruck Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Hi, I'm the new one. In my very first post I wanna show my upscaled red parrot to join the "minifigure Tribute" Captain Redbeard. It is not 100% my own design, but rather a combination of different MOCs I found online. Hope you like it? (I admit cheating with plasticine to fixate the eyes, but they add so much character) Next I'm considering building a small diorama with classic colored ground and an upscaled palm tree, like sketched out in the photo below. The stem out of flextube and "Barrel Half Large" 4424 turned out quite nice, but I personally don't like the brick built palm leafes out of wedge plates, like you can see here in provisorily light bluish grey. Do you have any better ideas for creating the palm top? I even just thought about a custom upscaled remake of the classic palm leafe (2518) to meet the very plain and thin character of this special piece. hoping the pics will show at first second try now, if not I will edit again: 20230811_170645 by pendentif, auf Flickr 20230811_170829 by pendentif, auf Flickr 20230811_170706 by pendentif, auf Flickr 20230811_172132 by pendentif, auf Flickr a little smaller pics may be better to look at: 20230811_170645 by pendentif, auf Flickr 20230811_170829 by pendentif, auf Flickr 20230811_170706 by pendentif, auf Flickr 20230811_172132 by pendentif, auf Flickr Quote
Rogue Redcoat Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 My oh my, I love this your pictures are showing now, but you might want to put this under pirate mocs one of the links at the top of the pirate's forum, other than that I can't wait to see your diorama! :) Quote
Lyichir Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 The parrot looks fantastic—a much more interesting and accurate accessory for Redbeard than the small map! Quote
xoona Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Whow, the Parrot is very nice and a good bigger version of the little one. Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Yeah, the parrot looks great and resembles the small one perfectly! Quote
Johnny_Thunderstruck Posted August 17, 2023 Author Posted August 17, 2023 Thanks a lot, I appreciate the feedback! Maybe an admin can move this thread to the MOC section? I'm sorry for getting this wrong! Quote
CollinsAnimationStudio Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 A perfect addition to Redbeard! I really like the way this looks and it matches very nicely with the scale of the figure. Great work! Quote
Bfin9691 Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 That's an awesome parrot!!! You wouldn't happen to have instructions for it would you? I have a 50cm tall brick built pirate figure I'd love to build a parrot for. Quote
Johnny_Thunderstruck Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 No I don't have instructions, sorry. Quote

Johnny_Thunderstruck Posted September 3, 2023 Author Posted September 3, 2023 Ok I will create instructions or at least a stud.io file for you. But first I want to improve a few details construction-wise. On 8/26/2023 at 3:33 PM, Bfin9691 said: That's an awesome parrot!!! You wouldn't happen to have instructions for it would you? Johnny_Thunderstruck Posted October 15, 2023 Author Posted October 15, 2023 (edited) I tried to bypass some design flaws of my parrot to improve the structural stability, but was not happy with the resulting optical changes. Therefore I decided against making instructions now. Also there are plenty of quite similar parrots on rebrickable already. But regarding the small diorama, there is some progress to show: 20231015_140825 by pendentif, auf Flickr 20231015_145642 by pendentif, auf Flickr Edited October 15, 2023 by Johnny_Thunderstruck Quote
Johnny_Thunderstruck Posted October 27, 2023 Author Posted October 27, 2023 (edited) What to you think about these custom palm leafes? I mean it's not official Lego, but I may like it. 20231027_123339-1 by pendentif, auf Flickr 20231027_124022-1 by pendentif, auf Flickr Edited October 27, 2023 by Johnny_Thunderstruck Quote

Biker68 Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 We both have the same idea. I've also built an island similar to yours. Quote
Johnny_Thunderstruck Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 Cool! How did you solve the problem with missing reddish brown curved slopes for the top of the treasure chest? Because I also would have liked to add one. Quote
