BoredBanshee Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 (edited) Hi everyone, This is the first contest I'd like to participate in, and actually, it's also my first post here. Hoping to manage to finish in time and have all the pieces in the right color, I've come up with this: The model has the same functions as the original, with a free front axle, a damped rear axle, a "hand of God," steering, full interior with seats and steering wheel (fake like the original), fake sticker engine, openable door and hood and finally, the winch. All the stickers are a smaller version of the original set. I'm still working on some details I'm not entirely sure about, but overall, this will be the model. Every C&C are welcome! gyenesvi Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 That's a pretty cute one, looks nice. But as far as I know shrinking stickers is not allowed, only cutting originals. For the front grille, you could try using 1x2 grille tiles. Does the suspension use rubber bands? Quote
Thirdwigg Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Well this is unexpected. It looks great. Do you have additional pictures? Quote

Thanks for the advice! Feeling sad about the stickers For the grille I can give your suggestion a try, although I'm afraid it might resemble a Jeep Willys more than the 42122 model. Maybe using the yellow ones might be a viable option. As for the door logo and handles, it's not a major issue as the original design utilizes stickers on a liftarm, so I can use the same stickers. Regarding the suspension, it is constructed using 2x 45590 axle connector double - flexible rubber. While it may not be ideal, it functions well with this scale. 1 hour ago, Thirdwigg said: Well this is unexpected. It looks great. Do you have additional pictures? Thanks! But i'm a bit dumb and i don't know how to upload more pictures!! maybe an external link Edited July 31, 2023 by Milan Converted links into visible pictures Quote
gyenesvi Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 (edited) Yes, I meant the yellow grille piece. To show more pictures, you have to upload it elsewhere, for example on Bricksafe, and then link them here. Looks cool from all angles btw :) Edited July 31, 2023 by gyenesvi Quote

Once you upload pictures on an external hosting site, just "copy image link" and simply paste it here. For detailed explanation, links in my description I have edited your post and links to show images. Quote

Zerobricks Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Awww, cute. Is there any way you can tilt the front grill a bit? Quote

piterx Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Awesome entry! I love it, the amount of functions is stupidly high for that scale, now I have to put myself at work to get on pair with my wrecker ahah Well done! Quote

I've updated a bit and added the reclinabile back seats... To be fair it's a feature that I've discovered only yesterday from the real technic model 😁 Quote
BoredBanshee Posted August 2, 2023 Author Posted August 2, 2023 Ready for an upgrade, now the front grille it's tilted a bit, new mudguard configuration and reclinable backseats. I'm not sure if this will be the final version, but i'm late to order missing pieces, so i'm happy with this solution. Quote
gyenesvi Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 The fenders definitely look better, but I am not sure about the angled grille, the straight one looked cleaner for me and the front bumper is now too far out. Quote
SaperPL Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Yeah, angling doesn't really help much. Also you need to start building it physically, you can easily build something in Studio that makes sense in 3D model, but isn't working in real life. Quote

In fact the front grille is the part that convinces me the least, i would like to maintain the angled version, but to do so, i need to bring the front bumper one stud closer (and it's not possible with this configuration), and maybe even manage to lower the front grille by half a stud... Both things are hardly achievable due the steering and pendulm axle, especially if i want (as i do) to leave one stud of ground clearance. But sadly i've never heard of a 1-stud-high steering axle. Additionally, i'm quite sure that Lego Mum would opt for a straight grille or a build with tile, bricks and stickers, so maybe a straight grille fits the contest better. I will continue to look at both version of the model until the pieces arrive to take live photos for the entry topic... if they ever arrive in time 13 minutes ago, SaperPL said: Yeah, angling doesn't really help much. Proud to present to you the rainbow version!!! it's actually sturdier than i've expected Edited August 3, 2023 by BoredBanshee Quote
