It’s not like they’ll hire a replacement tomorrow and immediately insert him everywhere Either way, whoever’s gonna replace Martinet has big shoes to fill! Quote
noodlesoup Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 it seems they already have hired a replacement - Martinet isn't voicing Mario in Wonder Quote
Aragosta Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 That's a good question. I haven't read into Marinet's retirement other than what most online news articles are reporting. Is he stepping down as of this moment? Was his cameo in The Super Mario Bros. Movie his last work? Maybe the folks at Lego have been in the know of this - but then again - maybe not. It will be interesting to see what - if anything - changes later this year when the new wave of sets rolls around. Quote

Nintendo has confirmed that Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a game releasing later this fall, will feature a new voice actor (and they sound good in the trailer we've seen so far). So if Lego does continue with this style of set (and personally I don't mind if they do), it shouldn't be an insurmountable challenge to have new voice lines recorded for it. Quote
Portal Out Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Ok, regardless of what the future holds for Lego Mario, we riot if this new piece doesn't get reprinted as a Luma. Quote

Sorry to say but there's practically zero chance of a molded figure modeled after a distinct Disney character like this being reused for a non-Disney character. It's almost certainly IP-locked. Quote
Surge Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 any guesses as to when we will see that piranha plant? Quote

Lyichir Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Picked up most of the rest of the Lego Mario sets on my wishlist this weekend. Built the Larry and Morton's Airships set first and loved it—now I really wanna try MOCing airships for the other Koopalings. Also built the Diddy Kong minecart set, but my feelings on it were a bit more mixed—while the functions are clever and I LOVE the Kongs and Funky's plane, the set takes up a ton of space and the build was honestly a bit of a slog with the many similar minecart track segments. It did get me wondering... has there been any more word about a potential D2C set this year? I remember discussion of it earlier in the year but as far as I can remember there haven't been any reveals or leaks yet, and there's only a few months left in the year. Quote

The D2C set this year is a piranha plant for $70, scheduled to release in November Quote

But not a bad one, seeing as the "digi-fig" scale Piranha Plants only do a so-so job of resembling the more spherical, spotted look of the ones from the games. I hope that like the Mighty Bowser set there's compatibility with the digi-figs, since there's always room for a "giant enemy" encounter to finish off a level! EDIT: Built the Dixie Kong set today. I love most aspects of it (the stage is great, as are the figures). I do wish Dixie had a scannable tile in addition to the performance tile so Mario could interact with her individually like he can with the other Kongs. Edited September 18, 2023 by Lyichir Quote
Lyichir Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Built the Rambi set, the last of my Donkey Kong sets. Not much to say about this one—his interaction isn't that novel but I love these sorts of small sets that execute a single character well. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 I absolutely love this set Piranha plants are among my favourite Mario enemies to begin with, and the execution is just brilliant! Probably my favourite buildable figure-type set they‘ve ever released besides Bowser and the large-scale Potter „minifigs“ Quote
Portal Out Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Nice! At first I was a bit bummed since it doesn’t look like it moves at all, but honestly it’s hard to get upset with this good of a build! Also, official pics make it look like it might be a coin bank too? I guess 2023 is just the year of 18+ piggy banks then. Quote
RichardGoring Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 It's such a great set, and actually nice that they've done it at this scale for this price, rather than go crazy and make $200. Of course, at this size and price there's always the temptation to get two or three.... No, one will DEFINITELY be enough! Quote

JohnTPT17 Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 I really like this one! I don't have the money or the space for most $200-$400 AFOL sets (though I'll make an exception for a few, like Barracuda Bay and the MMV [hopefully!]), so something like this is perfect for me! It reminds me of the Groot sets in some ways... And, in that case, I think it would have been fun if it came with a plaque and/or a minifigure. Still, it looks really good as-is. I probably won't get it Day 1, but I'll keep an eye out on it and get it with a discount/cheaper GWP. I wonder is that printed coin will get reused for the rumored/theorized Mário minifigure sets next year... Quote

Really coins in most Mario games are pretty oversized, given that even basic coins tend to be half as tall as him (in minifigure terms, probably a 2x2 round). Though if you're curious the "biggest coin" award would probably go to Paper Mario Color Splash, where one level has a giant white "gate" blocking the way. Coloring it back in later reveals it to be a giant coin, which you can walk straight through to collect (though hilariously, it's still worth just one coin)! Quote
