TechnicBrickPower Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Hi there, this multi function gearbox implements two separate functions using just a single motor. It implements the two functions by exploiting the direction of rotation of the motor and implementing one function for the forward direction and a function selector in the reverse direction. The reverse selector can be used to select between between driving one of the two outputs in either the forward or reverse direction. This means you can build a remote controlled car or device that has two functions that can be remotely controlled with just 1 motor and just 1 channel of your remote transmitter and receiver combination. Jeroen Ottens Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Very clever mechanism and a nice evolution of the previous gearbox! Quote
m2fel Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Great and clever gearbox which is similarish to the solution used on the kran model of 8094 which had, as far as I remember, two function with one motor. Can your gearbox handle torque? Do the pivoting (swinging?) gears start skipping when torque is applied? I already have few ideas where I wanna try this :) Quote

Yes torque is no problem - the swinging arm gets pulled towards the gear with higher torque so no never skips. You can stall the motor by holding the output. Quote
SNIPE Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Cool idea, and something I've never seen before. Quote
