Auroralampinen Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) Well i went to my local supermarket and they had 2025 catalogs(finnish) and i found this on catalog is this new unreleased set? Edited January 5 by Auroralampinen Quote
Lucarex Posted January 5 Posted January 5 First thought…is that real/legit? Second thought…architectural details are MUCH improved on original set (one of my favourites and first of theme I bought at the time), and minifigs instead of microfigs. Third thought…is there a release date mentioned? Fourth/final thought…what else is lurking in this Finnish catalog? 😀 Quote

Lucarex Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Thanks. Interestingly, here’s the new set next to the photo from the original set box art. Quote
Herky Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 really? Why are they just recreating sets we already have? Can they not do new buildings? This may be the first set I skip or maybe just get it and not build it. Frustrating when there is so much good architecture out there and they do repeats. Quote
johnnytifosi Posted January 6 Posted January 6 (edited) While it looks good indeed, I am disappointed that this is a remake too. It is a year wasted, since they reduced the line down to one set per year. Edited January 6 by johnnytifosi Quote
Lucarex Posted January 6 Posted January 6 (edited) Looks like we’re getting 2 sets this year… Fontana di Trevi 21062 (1880 pcs) released March 1 - €149.99/£129.99/$159.99 TBC 21063 (likely Aug 1) admittedly might fall under the CE/Icons theme Edited January 6 by Lucarex Quote
Herky Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 We were supposed to get 2 sets, but it would be nice to get back to something under $100 that is a nice build and not a repeat. Quote

henrysunset Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Trevi fountain reviews are live. I just posted mine, but you can also find reviews at Brothers Brick, HelloBricks (french), and AustrianBrickFan (video). (I'm sure more will be published soon...) I wanted to share some photos from my review and some high-level thoughts about the new set, especially how it compares to the original version. Box and completed set shown next to one another for scale. Even sets produced in Europe (Hungary) still have plastic bags for some reason... There are 15 numbered bags. The fountain has a nice gradient effect, but it is slightly spoiled by the use of tan elements along the edges. The true highlight of the set is re-creating intricate Baroque architectural detailing with a lot more fidelity and finesse than the smaller original set. Perhaps the most important photo for long-time fans of the LEGO Architecture series — You can really tell how much bigger (and more intricate) the new one is! I tried to line everything up to show that the proportions are reasonably accurate. I did appreciate that the windows match the triangular pediments on the lower floor, and round pediments on the second floor. Conclusions: It is a good set, but I do not want to spoil too much for people who are just casually reading this page - You will find my final rating of the set (and why) in my full review. (I think that some people will disagree with my decision to factor cost so strongly into the rating, but hopefully the thought process behind the rating makes sense!) Sincerely, — Tom Alphin. P.S. If you have any questions after reading the review, let me know! Quote
Lucarex Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Really appreciate the excellent summary review Tom, and very jealous of the early access! Can’t really understand the “yawn, another remake” complaints when it’s such an obvious upgrade (in all aspects) of an already standout set from the old days of the theme. The money shot (old set alongside new set) speaks volumes, literally. Quote

Fair point, but as a longtime collector of the theme I'd rather explore a completely new subject matter than rehash something that was covered already. Totally agree that this is a superior rendition, just wish it was less expensive. ---Tom Quote

However, these sets usually go on discount at the usual big online suspects, anywhere from 10-30% off within a few months, so there’s always that option. Unrelated but I do wonder why there’s still 3 old Skyline sets still officially available/not retired. London, Paris and NYC, which have been out since what, 2016-ish? Quote

Yeah, I figure since they're on the lower end of pricing for architecture they're probably still strong sellers, and their broad focus compared to individual buildings probably gives them a lot of appeal (including as souvenirs of those cities, which each have flagship Lego stores). I’d love to know the numbers as they must be absolutely raking it in for them to still be on inventory after 8 years! Struggle to think of any LEGO set (not theme) that’s as immortal? Maybe that cash is what helped TLG realise there was serious money being left on the table with the Architecture theme (when it seemed like it was finished) that also neatly aligned with the “Adults Welcome” marketing strategy, which has allowed them to subsidise recent “niche” sets like Himeji, Notre Dame and Trevi 2.0. 8 hours ago, Lyichir said: their broad focus compared to individual buildings probably gives them a lot of appeal (including as souvenirs of those cities, which each have flagship Lego stores). Stores aside, I always see these piled high at respective airport duty-free shops, the ideal impulse buy maybe? Edited February 4 by Lucarex Quote
Yoggington Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) @henrysunset Could you possibly post a better picture of the internal dome above the central statue is? i.e. the bit you call out as "This relies on a new part marked 7202 which is a half-hemisphere with a diameter of 6-Studs." Edited February 4 by Yoggington Quote
Lucarex Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) It’s shown in the product video… Edited February 4 by Lucarex Quote

RE your query @Lucarex: the Duplo green baseplate in plastic warp (set 2304) was available in from sometime in 1992 to Feb 2022 (30 years!) before being replaced with as a paper bag version, while the orange Brick Separator polybag was Dec. 2011 to Feb. 2023. If you're asking about models, it's a tie: the 10220 Volkswagen T1 camper van was available from Sept. 2011 to Nov. 2020, followed by 10214 Tower Bridge was Oct. 2010 to Sept. 2019, so about nine years for each set. (all this info is from Brickset) So, in essence, Duplo is eternal. Edited February 4 by Murdoch17 Quote

Herky Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 It sounds like set 21063 is the Neuschwanstein Castle, 3455 pieces, August 1 release, do not find the cost yet. Anyone have a picture or the cost value of the set? Quote
