Thank-you Jeff, your design of this beautiful locomotive was just needing a little more detail(in my mind) as it will have it's own display case.

Besides, it is very interesting to watch go by on a track layout and see all those 'rods' going through their movements. Not exactly like 'Baker Valve Gear', but similar.

(I'll tear up the living room and move out furniture to lay out some track to test it!)

Now all I have to do is build some rolling stock or some fancy coaches.(next fall)

You know, given all of the detail in the rods and valve gear, you might want to build in to the display a mechanism to turn the driver wheels while the engine is stationary, e.g., as Dr_spock did here in the first post.

At any rate, looking really good and glad I could help out.

@zephyr1934 I thought about that very idea!(of course after seeing Dr_spock's loco testing bed) With the way @Jeffinslaw designed the frame, there is plenty of room for a gear on one of the axles. That would drive all the wheels and valve gear too.

@Jeffinslaw designed the boiler in a new way for me(inside supporting structure) that taught me some new LEGO building lessons.

I will never knock or criticize the 'lonely headlight brick' again, it's my new friend! :sweet:

Also thank-you for your help and suggestions, your custom rods are awesome!

I could second this ... I did just this with my EN at the great train show this past Dec.  I set the speed to crawl an people would stand and watch the rods for quite some time before moving further down the display.

Hi,

Just installed a speaker into the boiler. It’s FXBricks’ XL-sized unit and facing downwards to the track. It’s barely noticeable and I’m quite pleased to how this worked out.

I have still some work to do with the cabling for the lights and this speaker.

@Henry 991 X2 i agree ... Can we get a short clip with sound?

Will send when complete! The progress is slow as I’m not able to put in many hours per week into this hobby.

Below please find a picture of the cabling. I’m installing LEDs (Brickstuff picos) for the headlight and to the cab. I prefer having proper channels where the cable can run free and is not squeezed between the bricks.

Man, seeing all these pictures is making me have a hard time choosing between this or the Big Boy to purchase

It all depends on what I can save up! I’m not gonna purchase everything in bulk, it’ll span over a few months before I acquire all the parts

Some progress with my build. The engine is now in running condition although not complete.

I will still need to work with the tender packaging. I couldn’t properly close the hatch with all the cabling and battery battery (3S, 800 mAh) A marginally smaller battery - that I already ordered - will allow reinstalling the second motor that is now removed but required for smooth running.

I hope your process was as smooth as mine in dealing with them!  One thing I actually did was to build the completed model in LDD then send pictures of the bricks that were getting the lights and the lxf to them ... I had just the right amount of cable that everything fit great.  I as well like building "wire channels"  into the design.  Looking good so far ... Loving seeing the progress photos... Cant wait to see/hear it completed!

Hey now, you're showing all of the secrets ;) looks great! Can't wait to see it finished!

I got a few videos of mine running during BrickWorld (click the pictures):
