Would be fun if they shake up the formula a bit more but this is generally how it goes Did I detec sarcasm? But yeah mechs, cars, and motorcycles are pretty resistive for all Monkie Kid, Ninjago, and DreamZzz. Sometimes for City (like Space sub theme). It seems young kids like them. And I like them too. I would love to see another new in-house theme but we will see. I ? But yeah, mech, cars and motorcycles are pretty repetitive for all DreamZzz, Ninjago, Monkie Kid and sometimes for City. It seems the kids like to get those vehicles. And I like them too. Quote

I doubt our next original theme will move away from this format as Ninjago, Nexo Knights, Dreamzzz and Monkie Kid all kept it. Ninjago does well so most of the few original themes now generally fit into it's format Quote
Peppermint_M Posted yesterday at 12:58 PM Author Posted yesterday at 12:58 PM So, I have not really seen anything new of late that would find a home here. My brother and I have been discussing the lack of incoming "big bang" themes and how everything seems to be a victim of Ninjago's success (not that I am knocking that, it is great that we have something so long lasting) so I guess we are all Watching This Space eh? Maybe I should figure out a contest to try coming up with new Action and Adventure theme? Quote
Oky Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I feel like trying to recapture the success of Ninjago is LEGO’s downfall. You can’t have a theme compete with Ninjago if it’s trying to BE Ninjago. Ninjago is way too established and popular at this point for a new theme to come in and try to be even nearly as successful if it’s just copying the same formula. Back in the day, Ninjago was able to coexist with themes like Monster Fighters, Dino, Ultra Agents, etc. because they were so different and I don’t see why that couldn’t be the case today, especially now that Ninjago has stopped trying to be every theme at once and settled into mostly just mechs and dragons. Sure, those old themes never lasted more than 2 waves, but they didn’t need to. Does everything have to be a “big bang” theme that lasts multiple years to be profitable for LEGO? I’m getting tired of licensed themes and their skyrocketing prices and hope we get some more original themes soon. 6 hours ago, Peppermint_M said: Maybe I should figure out a contest to try coming up with new Action and Adventure theme? Exactly, they really managed to capture lightning in a bottle with Ninjago and other themes could run their two or three years and all was well. I don't know if it is Executive demands, the way the Toy Market is these days or a combination of the two that demands a brand to recognise within a brand; but there are no shorter but "successful" themes. Its like the City brand is now a tentpole over what would have been individual themes. Though Ninjago is not quite the same tent to allow a return of super spies or miners versus rock monsters... 1 hour ago, Oky said: I’m getting tired of licensed themes and their skyrocketing prices and hope we get some more original themes soon. Yeah. As much as I like to get parts to rebuild/fuel a MOC the prices mean I am waiting for sales and clearance. Creator is still a good one at least, though a lot of my building and creativity is sliding over to Gunpla and Bandai's very cool 30 Minute Fantasy (dipping my toes into Diorama building too). As for a contest: I will start brainstorming on a contest. I have some thoughts on what I would like to present. Quote
Oky Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Ninjago could be a tentpole if it wanted to. They certainly tried for a while with their diversions into air pirates, underwater, Islanders, cyberpunk, dungeons, etc., plus the show literally has realms filled with rock monsters and government agents that they could capitalize on, but with the Dragons Rising rebranding they seem to have decided to stick to what they do best, mechs and dragons. Now we just need some themes to fill the role of everything else, and a contest to come up with some sounds like a lot of fun! Quote
