Jarreth2 Posted April 23 Posted April 23 @BrickBob Studpants I've only just seen the drawing of the alleged Sherlock set .. now that's what a proper book nook looks like IMO. I immediately thought of Gandalf and the Balrog and have higher hopes I think although the bookends idea could have possibly worked maybe joining them together if you didn't want books in between, mind you I guess that defeats the whole point of bookends 😂 Hopefully some info soon Quote
Kaijumeister Posted April 24 Posted April 24 (edited) Yeah that Sherlock Holmes book nook looks excellent going by the sketch, can’t wait to see the LotR one now. Given that the Harry Potter one includes 2 minifigures and the Sherlock one also includes a handful, I wonder if we’ll get more than just Gandalf here? Perhaps either Aragorn or Boromir with Frodo? It would be awesome to get some sort of Nameless Things easter egg incorporated into the base of the build even if we don’t know what they look like. Edited April 24 by Kaijumeister Quote
BigHobbit Posted April 24 Posted April 24 A fateful Instagram post shows the EXCELLENT Sherlock set in full now. It looks amazing, so I'm really looking forward to seeing the LotR one, too. Quote
RichardGoring Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I can see the LOTR book nook going either route - Harry Potter book ends, or Sherlock Holmes book nook - as you can either do the Balrog on one side and Gandalf on the other of book ends, with the books being the bridge, or you could do it like Sherlock Holmes, where it folds out to show the bridge, although the book nook view would likely show the back of Gandalf. Still might look good though. Really looking forward to seeing how they do it. Quote

Maybe I misunderstand you, but I think the HP one is similar to the Sherlock one so you could close that as well or keep it open like the picture that leaked.. Quote

I don’t think the HP set closes. It has rubber tires on the bottom too for friction which the Sherlock set doesn’t have. Bookends would need it, book book not so much. Quote

Or they could do it side on, so you see the sides of both the Balrog and Gandalf. Quote
Lordhelmet Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Excited to see the Balrog, the Harry Potter and Sherlock ones were good. I am hoping for bookends still over the book nook, but as long as it is well executed I am good either way. Quote
Artanis I Posted April 26 Posted April 26 I'm not overly optimistic about a decent sized balrog if it needs to fit inside a folded book like the Sherlock Holmes set. Quote
mcbbvb Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I guess a decent sized balrog would only work if it’s in the length of the book nook. So you would look at the back of Gandalf. I also wonder how the book nook would work when openend. It would mean either half of it is not part of the scene or they wouldn’t face each other. Any way I think of it, it faces the same issue as the Harry Potter one: it makes sense in one configuration but not both. Quote
Rjbricks Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Haven’t looked on other regions but already seeing brand new sets on eBay in the UK for 20% discounts. Fingers crossed we’ll see some sales on Black Friday etc on this set. Quote
hikouki Posted May 2 Posted May 2 There's a video out there, I think on IG, of the Sherlock reveal. The designer was very careful not to reveal the other item under the black drape. People are speculating it is actually the LOTR set! So HP got bookends, and Sherlock got a book nook. Quote

I noticed the same thing and figured it must have been LOTR. I wonder if that means it's the same design team. There were a lot of them that appeared for a single small set. Quote

MAB Posted May 2 Posted May 2 The HP bookends look like two separate displays that presumably click together with technic pins. Plus they then have a back in the nook format which looks much better than the Sherlock one. Quote

Maybe it's got the Frodo screaming 'Gandalf!!!' on the other side of the bridge as the other side of the opening booknook. And in the default configuration you view the characters and Balrog side on? Lordhelmet Posted May 2 Posted May 2 The Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes sets give me hope that we will get a good brick built balrog Quote
Seaber Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Based on the HP and SH book nooks, I have high hopes the scene will be pretty interactive. So fingers crossed the balrog will not only be removable but pretty posable. Quote
Forester Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Has anyone built MOC-164351 Barad Dur? I am building it and have got stuck. Quote

Forester Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) That will be my last resort. Alex Bonelli is very busy promoting a much bigger Orthanc MOC. Edited May 7 by Forester Factual error - Orthanc not Barad Dur Quote
Lordhelmet Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Why is LOTR always revealed so much later than other themes? We have had the book nook for Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes for at least a week. I just want to see it. Quote

Because Potter uses a train or flying car, Holmes uses a horse-drawn carriage, but Hobbits walk everywhere, and they only have little legs. Quote
MAB Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Lord of the Rings reveals are never late, nor are they early. They are revealed precisely when they mean to be revealed. Quote
