kaiju Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 (edited) In his younger days Lorenzio Gascoigne was quite the entrepreneur but the only thing that ever paid off was mercenary work. Making his fortune serving all nations, Gascoigne considered none of them to be home. Few who knew him were surprised when he invested heavily in Bastion and paid for the construction of his new home. As for the mercenary work, Lorenzio's son Laurence took over the small mercenary company. They can often be found sailing from one employer to the next aboard the Wight Spider. The attic of Gossamer House is set up as a practice room for the fine arts of swordmanship, a set-up Laurence appreciates greatly. The upper floor of the building hosts the entrance to Lorenzio's library, as well as his bedroom. Knowing the elder Gascoigne is expecting company, Klaus makes his way upstairs to join Talia on the balcony. Even now, Gascoigne continues to entertain visitors. Rumour has it, however, few are friends. There are those who claim that Gossamer House goes by another name, that of the assassin's guild The House of Spiders. Garmadon Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Very nice build, kaiju, the sand green really looks great there, and the decorated rails and checkered floor work very well there too! Great job with the interior as well - the furniture is excellent, and those sparring dummies and and weapons on top are a neat touch! In general, I don't think the studs make it any worse, but I do think it would be good to tile the stairs (and maybe add some railing and/or a closet or compartment beneath them) just to make it more visually interesting, as it takes up a lot of space but isn't all that attractive as it is Great job overall though - keep it up! Captain Genaro Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 You did a really nice job with this build. The sand green accents look very clean and are a great choice for the grey and black color scheme. The exterior is very well done, and I particularly like the small details such as the microfigs on the railings/columns and the railing on the roof. The interior is nicely done, too. All the rooms have a purpose and the furniture, especially the various bookshelves, is quite nice. Two suggestions. I would consider moving the balcony's door to the center windows to make the build symmetrical, and moving the attic windows out one stud so that they are in-line with the rest of the house's windows. Of course, that could just be a personal preference, and if you like the way it currently is I wouldn't worry about my suggestions. Quote

Thank you. There actually is a door to the area under the stairs, it just unfortunately isn't visible at the angle the images were taken with. There's a few little touches that don't show up well if at all, but it took 10 minutes to render each picture and I was lacking in patience at the time. I might add those later. I do take your point about the stairs being rather plain as they are; even if I don't update this build to improve them I will try to remember that next time. 9 hours ago, Captain Genaro said: You did a really nice job with this build. The attic windows won't really go any further apart without changing how the roof is assembled or moving the masonry bricks behind the window frames. I did at one point have the balcony door above the main door and I can't remember why I moved it. It might have been to put the door at the top of the stairs. Quote
LegoEomer Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Nice build! What did you use on the LDD to get that picture quality? Quote

Captain Dee Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Nice house. I particularly like the color scheme and the architecture is really good. The modular interior looks great. I like a well-detailed facade, but adding a dollhouse-type interior like this really transforms the overall build. Keep it up. Quote

I'm not too big a fan of facades that do not have any kind of interior, and I wanted to make sure the building felt lived in. Quote
