Lucio Switch Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 On a related note, where do people get their backgrounds from? And what material? I also want to try grey, but I can't find thick paper larger than 70x100 in any other color but white. I also tried curtain fabric from IKEA, bit it gets wrinkly and I have to iron it before shooting photos, because I don't have any room left for a fixed photo setup. I bought lights and background on amazon. The background is in thick paper, something like this: http://www.amazon.it/Fondale-Background-Professionale-DynaSun-W502/dp/B009UU9IRM/ref=sr_1_45?ie=UTF8&qid=1456239188&sr=8-45&keywords=fondale+fotografico Quote
BusterHaus Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) To be honest; I'm not really sure. Usually these kind of products are available in hobby shops, along with paint, canvas, pencils etc. "For designers and hobby projects" is the rough translation. Packaging, lamps, maps, placemats, protective foil etc. It took a few different search terms after you wrote about your PVC foil, but I finally found a whole slew of them here: http://m.aliexpress.com/search.htm?keywords=pvc+photography+background I haven't ordered any yet, so I can't vouch for them. Technic Jim Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Wow! Cool picture, what do you use for your background, it looks like some sort of carpet perhaps? Quote
WvG_853 Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 The issue with PVC backgrounds is that it attracts dust and can be difficult to keep clean. This can be disturbing in high resolution pictures ... With paper you just throw away the dirty part and roll down a fresh part of the paper. Quote

Zerobricks Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 A bit too little focus area on the second one, you can only see one wheel clearly. But the first one is trully awesome! Quote

I was simply experimenting…you can see many other pics in my bricksafe folder. When the MOC is finished I'll take pics outside! Quote

This can be disturbing in high resolution pictures ... With paper you just throw away the dirty part and roll down a fresh part of the paper. That's not really an issue. I have been shooting on PVC for quite some time and I hardly notice any (more) dust. And you can always wipe the PVC with a piece of cloth or something. Another solution would be to store the PVC when you aren't using it. I use velcro to attach it to the wall, so it's detacheable. Quote
Tommy Styrvoky Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) I have a couple questions, I have plans to buy a backdrop and some small photography lights. I think the usage of Led lighting would be better than standard tungsten lights, and reduce grain and noise in my video by addition of more pure light. I am between buying a Muslin and vinyl backdrop, though after reading the reviews of the vinyl I am skeptical, as I could by two muslin backdrops for the price of one vinyl one. Here's the products I am looking at. Do you think the lights would be powerful enough, as I don't want to have massive diffusers due to the small space I have in my room. And for backdrop, I think I will get a muslin black and white backdrops. knotian Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I am not a pro, so my pictures are very basic. I've found that a colored bed sheet seems to work well for me. Quote
JGW3000 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Tommy - go with the muslin, the vinyl may give you some uncontrolled reflections. The lights may be a little weak and not provide a wide enough coverage, you may want to consider getting four of them. If you place your camera on a tripod, you can get longer exposures without camera shake and not have to worry so much about light intensity. One issue I have is that LEDs are typically not full spectrum, so some colors do not reproduce correctly, which may not be so much of an issue for LEGO. Quote
hadidi1999 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Yes JGW3000 You have to check the LED's before you get them, or else you won't get those bold colors. Quote

He just needed business style profile pics, so we did a few different at my studio :) So why would someone without any LEGO, need a business style profile pic, with one of the greatest Technic sets out there. It is a great photo, just don't know why a non LEGO Fan would want one. Or where you just experimenting Beard? Quote
