My honest thought is this:

IF Lego wasn't having problems that need to be dealt with first such as cracking parts, prices jumping yet sets aren't worth the price, PPP count padding, there problems with the wave 12 cmf's, and Lego CITY becoming a Lego POLICE with a little bit of other stuff, I'd be game for a reality Lego show even though I'm not a huge fan of game shows OR reality tv. Do I have problems with Lego police stuff? When its getting to the point that's the main headlight every year, YES I do have a problem. Lastr time I checked, a real city just doesn't have police in it!!!

But the problem is Lego is having a ton of problems at the moment and yet instead of addressing them, they are more worried about approving 4 movies after the "success" (I put in quote since its a debatable topic) of TLM, pumping out more of the same with Lego sets combined with the rare new themes that look decent, and now approving of a Lego reality show!!! Lego needs to put a stop to that and focus on getting quality up so people will buy Lego's and thus Lego movies and shows could exist!

Will I watch the show? Maybe but like I said on my fb account, it'd only be under the reasons of there isn't anything else on. While there are at least 7 different shows that I do watch on tv, there's only 4 that I'm worried about watching the whole thing and the other 3 I record are b/c I only want to watch bits and pieces. There's other stuff I record but I only predict an additional 3 items(ncis, the Simpsons, CSI ny) will be on long term since I'll take and start watching a show then lose interest and switch over.

Why doesn't this tread have a poll, sure does seem like it should. A Lego reality TV shows sounds good but if just going to be another popularity contest then I have no plans in watching it.

It was speculated here that it could be placed in the US. I disagree with this. I personally think it will take place in either Dennmark or the UK, with contestants from all around. I maybe the only one here that thinks this, but I could see this being a kids-based show.

In general I am surprised to see so much resistance to the idea of a LEGO reality show. I agree that not all reality shows are good. There are plenty of Survivor-esque shows that simply use contrived, unrealistic scenarios to exploit relationship drama and bring out the worst in competitors. But there are plenty of others like America's Got Talent or Top Chef that I feel are a lot more sincere — in the very least, as sincere as any non-televised talent or cooking competition.

I think a LEGO reality show would likely be this more sincere type of competition. And if it were in fact similar to the actual building challenges the LEGO Group puts prospective master builders through, then that's even better! It would offer a very personal glimpse into a process most people would never get to witness unless they experienced it for themselves. Having witnessed various types of building competitions at LEGO fan events, I know for fact that there's plenty of entertainment value in these kinds of challenges, and there would be even more if you trim out the more tedious or repetitive bits, and interviewed contestants before and after each challenge.

A lego reality based TV show reminds me of a skit from Saturday night live back in the mid to late 70s. Gilda Radner opened a scotch tape store at the mall. A commentary, and a funny one at that, of having too narrow of a target market. I can't imagine a lego reality show drawing anywhere near the ratings it would need to survive.

Except that there are that many channels these days, and shows that don't need ratings to fill the time slots. Commercial advertisements aren't the only things backing TV shows any more.

If you want a "prime time" show on a "prime" channel then yes, ratings, but otherwise not really.

Well, what you are proposing then is an infomercial. Because even the most obscure cable TV program has to have enough viewers to attract revenue generating sponsors. Unless, of course, it's an infomercial.

Just an educational point...all reality shows, even the cooking ones mentioned, are script written. Even American Ninja Warrior. Now the competition there is real, I know folks who have seen it live, but to an extent there is always a script writer for every show. I personally feel this is a horrible idea unless it was a kids show but even then, you would have so much to nail down, camera angles, I mean seriously folks, how are you going to show kids putting the little pieces together?

This would have to be a 4 hour competition that is seriously edited down to 22 minutes. I am guessing someone at TLG just wanted to jump on the bandwagon and this will be a failure in the end. Sure it would be great to see some techniques and the final product, but other than us, how many people are going to tune into a Lego building competition?

I know what you're getting at, but there are also public owned stations that broadcast things that may or may not attract numbers, but are shown for their educational or real "reality" documentary-type value. Not your David Attenborough nature documentary sort of thing, but more like the "blog" sort of travelling diary thing. Plus, every channel has to put something at 4am! I'm just saying that ratings isn't everything anymore.

Buuuut... you could say that in a way it IS an infomercial after all  , since it's a 30 minute ad for Lego...
