  1. Past hour
  2. I was going to say that happened in 2021 with the 4+ Batmobile at $30, the Classic TV Batmobile at $30, and the Tumbler at $40, but it turns out the 4+ Batmobile and the Classic TV Batmobile were April releases while the Tumbler was an October release, so they weren't actually all released at the same time.
  3. Build Days 28, 29 & 30 / Building Time - 12hrs / Total Building Time - 94.5hr Hello again Cooler weather and scribble free days on the calendar mean I've been able to have a few more afternoons in the shed this week so the Merc's coming along quite nicely, better than I expected. With the reddish orange body slowly enveloping the largely black & grey chassis it has more of a presence on the table. It's certainly taking up a fair amount of real estate. It's got some heft to it. It's not an easy thing to drag about and to handle. Today I had to fit the front wheelarches and the only way I could do them was to tip the model on each side which is easier said than done. Fitted the rears and running boards at the same time. During this exercise I lost, yes lost, a 6536 Axle & Pin Connector with attached blue 2L Pin with Axle which fell into the chassis. Despite my vigorously shaking it, as vigorous as I'm ever likely to get anyways, and whilst there was rattling nothing was ejected however a wing mirror did liberate itself. This isn't the first time a model has consumed parts intended for its being. I lost a 2x4 L Shaped Liftarm somewhere in the Chiron and in the Extreme Adventure a 12 Tooth Bevel Gear 2L Axle Connector were ingested and never seen again. Who knew Lego models had cannibalistic tendencies.
  4. I've talked about wanting to rebuild this ship in Barracuda colors without the lower hull and the gun mechanism for relatively cheap, but that was before seeing high-res pictures, reviews, and speed builds of the actual set. Now that I've seen those, I've completely changed my mind. This is a brilliant set and I'd rather have the set in the box than try to build a modified version myself. I don't want to pay $380 for it, but I don't yet know what an appropriate price would be on a per-weight basis. This summer, I was lucky enough to get the Bluebrixx model of the Queen Anne's Revenge before tariffs hit, and I built it early last month. That's a great big pirate ship with a realistic hull, a reasonably interesting build, a full interior, and 40 firing cannons, which is theoretically what I really wanted. It's got seven middle hull segments plus bow and stern hull segments, and it cost about $280 USD. I'm glad I have it, but in the six or seven weeks since I built it I haven't taken off the top deck or removed the pop-out hull modules for play even once. Instead it just sits on my desk looking pretty and taking up space. I also rebuilt my copy of the original Black Seas Barracuda this summer, so I know well what a great Lego pirate ship it is for play and how good it looks on the shelf. With those in mind, I see the new Black Pearl as a surprisingly good middle ground. It's a great big pirate ship with a realistic hull and a very interesting build, and at five middle hull segments plus a bow hull segment it's about the same length as the previous largest playscale pirate ship, the 10210 Imperial Flagship from 2010. Obviously the hull, cabin, and masts are much more realistically shaped in the new Black Pearl than in the old Imperial Flagship, while the Imperial Flagship had much more interior space for play. Comparing the play value to the Black Seas Barracuda, though, it's surprisingly similar. There's the cabin, the rowboat, the anchor, and about the same volume or more in accessible holds. Every past Lego pirate ship has had the firing cannons, but honestly those are kind of tedious for play when you want to run out the guns for the whole broadside, and there was never really that much room to pose minifigures in the gun deck of the Barracuda anyway. Seems to me, judging from my experence with the Barracuda and the Bluebrixx Queen Anne's Revenge, that the broadside mechanism for the brick-built guns is a very fair trade in play for the individual firing of a few firing cannons. The lower hull also looks great. Alas, the list of recent Lego ships I want is already very long, as wanted lists are wont to be: Black Pearl Temple Bounty Going Merry River Steamboat Endurance Titanic As well as wanting to bricklink the Fire Nation Ship, a white-hull Imperial Flagship, a nougat-hull playscale Black Pearl and Brick Bounty and Brickbeard-Bounty ... And saving for the Enterprise-D ... And saving to get my wife Rivendell, Balrog, and Shire .... So many amazing sets, so little time/money/space .... and such high prices ....
  5. of the good'ol days, right? Back in 12V world, we were listening to long, medium, and short wave radio. On LW/AM, badly maintained 12V trains, trailed by sparks flying all over the layout (OK, that's a bit exaggerated ) seriously jammed reception. Best Thorsten Does this translate to one train moves "forward" in the direction - let's call it left - when applying + voltage to the rails, whereas the other train does move right upon the same voltage (i.e., the plugs on your 12V train motors are reversed)? If so, the passing loop should work. I believe ... Best Thorsten
  6. AFAIK, all trains will have to travel the same direction and loops are impossible per the post directly above yours @dunnowhattoputhere. So no, that idea of yours won't work. This isn't like battery trains with remote control allowing for multiple trains to run on the same track - the 12v (9v is the same way) controller is attached to the track so all train on that track go the same way at the same speed, unless power is turned totally off or the train is stationary in an isolated siding.
  7. You're making arguments about what would be "better", I'm not talking about that. For the millionth time, I really liked Andor, I would be happy to get an avenger. I am not talking about what I personally desire, or what I consider to be better, but what lego is likely to do. Whether the sets were better or not, we aren't in 2010 anymore. Whether it's asking too much or not, you think tie-in sets for an April 2025 show would have released by now. As for the first point, dude, a new hope is almost 50 years old. Multiple generations have grown up watching it. I guarantee you a bare minimum of ten times as many children currently aged 6-12 have seen that as have seen Ahsoka for that night trooper pack, or will watch RTG for the firespeeder. (And I'd say probably a few hundred times as many have seen it as Andor- personally I would not want a 6-12 year old watching Andor). The original six movies are part of the cultural consciousness. I believe the same- I think if anything the most likely addition to Andor sets would be an 18+ fondor, or a Cassian's house GWP if we get a Yavin MBS sometime.
  8. Today
  9. Yeah it wouldn't be an absurd remake, but at the same time it hasn't been long enough for me to think a new one's imminent. I doubt we get an officially branded Hammobile, though a generic/comic one clearly meant to represent it like 2020's bat-tank seems entirely possible. As they say in the midwest when you go a summer without a tornado... we're overdue. Though with the landspeeder, it's honestly been long enough I wouldn't complain much about a new one. Ideally they could throw in a brick-built dewback or something, though. That movie's been in such delay purgatory I wouldn't be surprised if they either gave up and decided to just release some in-the-works vehicle or think it'll be so long before the actual release that they'll have time to make another. But I agree, it's no sure thing. Though I also wouldn't be surprised if they at least had some concept art at this point showing that Bruce'll have a new batmobile in part ll. We're definitely seeing a batman who's still in the process of making his equipment, and the Pattmobile has an unfinished vibe. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a sleeker vehicle in the sequel. We have to bring back to the public consciousness the correct meaning of goon. Though I also wouldn't be opposed to using Mooks, Thugs, or Lackeys. Henchmen's the formal term, but what's your average Dick Tracy gonna call the guys working for the mobsters he fights?
  10. Thanks for sharing! Changing out the white parts (to yellow for instance) goes a long way to make the design in line with Blacktron I.
  11. Unfortunately the mech's $15 (I mean, I think it's a reasonable price for it, but you know what I mean) but yeah the price point definitely helps it and the fact that the next one up is $55 is evidence of how well the subway set's doing. I wouldn't mind that either. That's pretty cool- maybe he can come down to affordable secondhand once those release. Still waiting on the x-jet cyclops minifigure to not cost $15-20 on BL. I hope so- I think @poisonbricks was the one who made a good moc-up of what it could look like. If they can implement some of strange's abilities- a Mirror Dimension effect out of trans-clear, some representation of the bands he uses, etc- I think it could make a really unique display piece- maybe they have some moon chunks on transparent stands as if they're crashing down? (It'll be stock orangeish terrain with a midi-scale sakaaran fighter - it'll be an endgame final battle that still doesn't include ronin.) To be fair I can see why we don't get some of these- Malekeith's ship isn't likely to be a bestseller, for instance- but the Q-ships stick out to me as anything Infinity war should do pretty solid and they already undersized the sanctuary 2, so it's not like it'd need to be a D2C set. Likewise, Thor vs the destroyer is screaming to be a $10 set. Raimi sets would be excellent too, the Spider-Man 3 final battle would be a great playset, and- again on $10 sets- just a simple goblin glider and brick wall or something would sell spectacularly.
  12. I know there’s almost no chance of ever getting a dark fortress remake, but wouldn’t that be so cool? The original set was one of my favorites in 2011, but its building techniques and size leave a lot to be desired. Imagine a huge remake with a full interior, rising drawbridge, and more accurate skeleton spider. Maybe I’ll have to moc my own someday.
  13. Ambush on Ferrix is really great and I'm glad I bought and build it. I understand what you say regarding the sets. I feel that Lego would aim with +18 sets for the target audience of Andor if they want to. But they did this already with K2SO (and played it save like with the U-Wing as both are also part of RO). Maybe they would bring the Fondor as part of the starship collection (I would rather have it as a system set with figures).
  14. 1. I think for the Star Wars theme specifically they have started making system sets that target adults even though it still says 6-12. All but one system set this summer are from media that is 15+ years old, kids today probably don't care about galactic marines and 327th troopers. With that said, I could be wrong, I don't know what most kids are into these days. I'd find it hard to believe the prequels are still popular among kids. 2. A much better era of the theme one might say. 3. Is two Andor sets to coincide with s2 really asking too much? You have to admit LSW set selection is pretty wack.
  15. You're right. My first impression looking at the two next to each other was that the smaller, older model looked far more dynamic because of the billowing sails. The newer one really is a display piece, trapped in a windless Davy Jones' curio cabinet.
  16. Not news about new sets, but an old Blacktron 2 prototype. I won't spoil it, just give it a watch! For the impatient, you can skip to about 3:30.
  17. Same shortcircuit question, Im gonna do single track with a passingloop, will my trains beable to use it if one is going one direction and the other one a different direction?
  18. Hi, this is amazing!! wow, what a labor of love!!! do you sell you mocs? would love to built this myself and display=)
  19. This one does surprise me, given how often lego releases AT-RTs. If they put out a little $10 AT-RT with a driver and chewbacca or Yoda or something, it'd be a solid set. New trooper variant, accurate size for popular vehicle, and major character for $10. That's why they're going back on shelves. Also why we got grape ones in the new style before the 104th despite the them not being canon- it's the best flavor. Awesome, that's all I needed. Again, I'd like a TIE avenger set, I liked Andor, I just didn't see the logic. So long as it's understood why it's unlikely I've got no issue saying "but it would be cool of lego to do though." I really do hope we get more $10 system sets. That Mando and grogu bike might be the first set I buy... ever? more to encourage more of that type of set than for the actual product. I can easily invest $10 to up the chances- however small my single contribution would be- of getting more of that price point from this theme. There are so many good options, and those sets have great potential to give us accurately-scaled versions of commonly oversized vehicles, get us cheap versions of desirable figs, and at their low price point, figs we might not otherwise get. (The risk of a $10 Cal vs Second Sister set being much less than a Mantis or something.) A few points here: 1. Plenty of adults buy system sets. I'm one of them, as is assumably most of this thread. That said, the standard 6-12 lego system sets are designed for 6-12 year olds. We aren't the target audience. 2. The Defender was made in a different era of the theme, when there was much less to pull from. As much as I want one today, that sort of thing is incredibly rare. 3. The Ambush on Ferrix set was an Andor tie-in meant to coincide with the release, as lego's done for every live-action star wars show besides that time they dodged a bullet. And one that I'd wager unfortunately didn't do all that well, hence their decision to limit the S2 tie-ins to a ship that was in a live-action movie already. (It is, however, an absolutely sick set that I greatly enjoy, despite the inaccurate figures. I doubt lego would have made it after seeing the first season, and I'm glad I didn't pay the $70 retail, but I'm also very glad I picked it up.)
  20. I don't entirely disagree, but I think a lot of adults do actually buy system sets. A lot of the summer 2025 play sets seemed to be aimed toward adults who grew up with the prequels/TCW. I also don't think a set needs to be recognizable to kids for them to want it, we got a Tie Defender in 2010 which was just from various EU media. Lego could have recognized the greatness of the Avenger and decided to make one, they made the Ambush on Ferrix set in 2022 for S1 and that isn't even as cool as the Tie Avenger.
  21. I don't – 4184 was the set that punched me straight into the dark ages which lasted for nearly a decade On the point about the sails: their curvature primarily depends on the positioning of the beams, but also on the shape of the sail itself. You could straighten out the sails on the OG to look exactly like they do on the new model by just making a couple of adjustments. Jay does mention in the comments that we'd be able to "tilt the yards slightly to make the sails look more curved", but ofc I'd assume not to a degree seen on the 2011 model – for that the structure of em masts has to be changed, I reckon, gotta put the beams a bit forward & slightly closer to each other.
  22. I'm surprised none of these reviewers have compared the new Pearl to the original, but almost all of them compared it to the Endurance. Seems like Lego either told them to not compare it to the original or none of them have it in hand. EDIT: Jay Ong posted a comparison of the original and the new Pearl, the old one is tiny and completely inaccurate but I guess I feel some nostalgia for the charming little vessel. I do like how the sails billow out on the original more too. I also agree with Jay, I miss when boxes had cool artwork on them instead of just plain black backgrounds. https://www.instagram.com/jayong28/p/DN3AUcz3k3T/ https://www.instagram.com/jayong28/p/DN0eF9S3gNw/ I thought the same thing when the rumors began for the Black Pearl but I'm not sure it will happen with these insane price increases now, the Dutchman would definitely have to be bigger, which means more expensive. If anything, I'd love to see some smaller sets, maybe a book nook of the Kraken's mouth and Jack ready to face his doom, or Isla de Muerta.
  23. Next year is the 20th anniversary of Dead Man's Chest, and something that's been brought to my attention, in light of the rumours about PotC getting the LotR treatment for the next couple years, is that TLG might apply a LotR logarithm to those potential releases too: Rivendell was the place where the journey of the Fellowship started – so that was the first set of the new LotR wave, in the same way the Curse of the Black Pearl is the first movie that kickstarted the PotC franchise – so (((Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship))) is the starting point for the new wave of PotC sets; then after Rivendell LEGO's done a dream set that's never been produced before – Barad-dûr, so following this logic the Flying Dutchman could be a follow-up to the Black Pearl; then TLG remade the Shire, hence we could potentially see the Queen Anne's Revenge remake for PotC etc. Given how popular LEGO sailing ships usually are, it'd be plausible to assume TLG could indeed make a trifecta of PotC pirate ships if the rumours become a reality – but honestly, with such a pricing for 10365 it's getting tough to believe we'd see a follow-up set
  24. I mean, I had every single pirates of the Caribbean set when they came out and sold them all when the prices were high, then the silent Mary came out and still have it, this version is an instant purchase for me tbh, im not even nitpicking it, but idk, The hardest thing I have to do is replace the broken reddish brown bricks from the silent Mary to display it next to this one. now of course the silent Mary will look offscale again next to this ship 🤣
  25. I used to like the blue milk, but now the 332nd cocktail just makes me drunk beyond belief. Yeah, i could do with a juicy, tasty 41st salad any day now. Didn't had any for quite a long time. Other than that, maybe concentrate your efforts on a variety of phase 1 food instead of constantly delivering slightly different variations of phase 2 buffet.
  26. Ughh I hate seeing all these people, some who don't even care for the franchise or the ship, getting the set early and for free. Some of these channels don't even have many subscribers? I miss the days where we just waited for actual fans to post their reviews online, now it's all controlled. Anyway, now that's I've had some time to sleep on it and seen some reviews, I'm liking the set a lot more! The shape is truly beautiful, for me that was the most important part and they nailed it, I didn't want something too long as I genuinely prefer my ships to look like they fit in with the Lego aesthetic and not just gigantic, very intricate display pieces. This is essentially a modern version of the video game design which is a dream come true, despite of it being more inaccurate in certain areas. Fortunately it looks extremely easy to mod and the canon mechanism is mostly hidden which is great! The only area which looks like will be more difficult to mod is the rudder mechanism, it looks like it would have to be completely removed if we want the cabin doors to actually lead to the cabin. The red pins holding the rowboat are indeed very distracting but easy enough to replace with grey ones I think. I still don't care for the hull build, especially after seeing that it's not even really attached to anything, it just sort of slots into the regular hull pieces. Would've rather seen more minifigures or a smaller build of Isla de Muerta. Either way I may cave and try to get this with the GWP when it's up for sale and hope to see a Flying Dutchman one day but that would probably be even more expensive! On the subject of the name change I also find it extremely silly that Lego and Disney somehow thought Black Pearl would be offensive. The story behind the Pearl is actually very empowering, originally it was ship called The Wicked Wench that belonged to the East India Trading Company, it was captained by Jack Sparrow and contrary to what's on the internet, it was not a slave ship, it just hauled normal cargo. However, Cutler Beckett wanted to turn it into a slave ship and when he forced Jack to haul slaves, Jack ended up freeing them instead. As punishment, Cutler had the ship burned and sunk and Jack was branded a pirate. Later, Jack struck a deal with Davy Jones to bring the Pearl back from the ocean depths and renamed it Black Pearl, because it had been turned mostly black from the fire was repainted all black and it was also a "pearl of great price" for Jack, who essentially gave away his freedom so the slaves could have theirs. The Black Pearl became the ultimate symbol of freedom for him and the story itself, so it's really stupid that they went to great lengths to not have any mention of the name or the past of the ship in the manual or any advertising because it's supposedly offensive to fans of a franchise that depicts literal high seas criminals as the heroes and has brutal scenes like the opening of the third movie.
  27. Tiago's done a fair job & basically voiced the same concerns that are circling around the web, tho the main point of these reviews is to showcase the set live, more or less in a natural lighting, so we can pick up on the quality of the prints & some of the more intricate details of the build not shown on the promo pics. And it seems that some of the figs don't have as detailed of a print on the back as they do on the front, especially Marty. The funniest bit I've spotted so far is that technic sections seem to use a lot of Pearl Gold ingots, while the treasure chest itself only has a Pearl Gold cup in it, lol – that just screams "gut the F out of it all" to me I adore how rebuildable the entire front & middle sections look, accommodating some living quarters & shooting cannons won't be a big problem indeed as even with the cannon mechanisms in place there's still more free space inside than anybody could've imagined imo, which will allow for easier rearrangements. The stern section is where it truly gets tricky depending on what you'd want to change.
