DIYMilitary Figures

Recommended Posts

After a long absence I'm back. My daughter is now getting old enough to get into the hobby. I've been slowly introducing her to some of the Oxford sets I had and I picked up the big Lego Classic pack.

Just today I was out hitting the famous "toy street" here in Seoul and found something very interesting which I can find next to no information on outside of Korea, mainly due to the name.

They are chinese, the company seems to be called DIY which makes it hard to search.

These are single pack military minifigures and they're quite impressive. They are only $1.25 here in Seoul, and come with an amazing amount of stuff. Two full sprues of things. On the back of the box you can see everything included in the pack. The figures have arm and leg printing. The heads are flesh color sadly, but that's okay. Some of them have decent printing on them, and the quality is decent. They come on a lego minifigure like stand, and the plastic is solid. I would say these weigh only slightly less than a lego minifgure indicating a lighter plastic, but they don't feel cheap.

Joints are tight and accessories are all good. I found only one or two that felt a little loose in their hands.

You can watch a video on them here:

(not my video, it's in Korean, but you can see the figure assembled and a few different ones)

see the back of the box here:

Each figure has different weapons and accessories.

Basically the brand is Di Long (or Ti Long, depending on how one romanize 迪龙 ). the biggest selling point for these figures besides the fact that they are military based, are the camo prints.

The weapons are copies of various 3rd party minifig weapon vendors like brickarms and sidan toys/ Minifigcat (among others).

I own 2 sets of them and i'll say that the quality is just passable only. Note that the head diameter for the minifigs for this particular brand is ever so slightly smaller than official lego (and some other clone brands like SY and Decool), so official headgear will be too loose on them and Di Long's headgear will be too tight. The radio headset fits extremely loosely on these, but will fit just nicely on official LEGO.

I personally recommend SY (Sheng Yuan) or Decool's military/police based figures rather than these actually, if not for the camo prints.

I don't know that I've seen those around here in Korea. Mostly we get those cheap little horrible enlighten sets, and a few bigger enlighten sets and that's it as far as Chinese Knock-offs go. Oxford and Lego more or less have the country locked up between them.

This is the first time I've seen these ones, and only on this special toy street.

After testing I did notice that the helmets are so so. The snipers hat didn't fit a lego mini, but one of the soldiers helmets seemed to fit just fine. The other accessories fit well. A little bit of filing on the sniper hat could have it fitting okay.

I picked up a set of these on AliExpress and shipped to the UK.

The print on the torso and legs looks like a copy of the camo print from Citizen Brick. The head print were pretty iffy for me and one of the hats just didn't fit at all and kept bouncing off the head.

I found that the figures with backpacks couldn't have the tactical belt on the correct way ad the backpack hits the ammo pouch on the back.

All in all I think I paid about $1 or 65p each so for that they're not too bad.

If you want a really god military set that's also cheap pick up the Disen set. Excellent printing on the heads although they're flesh (which I prefer). The equipment was excellent and some new things I'd not seen like pistols with light/torch attachments and holsters with a slight gap in them allowing the light section to fit snugly into it... really nicely done. They also have a small sheath connector on the opposite side to fit a knife in there. Gas masks and usual things with them are also really nicely done.

Disen also has the body armour with the shoulder attachments... another nice feature.

I tend not to keep the torso and legs of things like these though and just replace them with regular Lego police torsos etc as they sit under the armour anyway and they're very inexpensive to pick up.

The sniper has the backpack and he has no issue wearing the belt.
