Lego Battle Royal (Smash Bros Style Game) what if? Discussion

Hey guys! I had an idea, what if Lego made a smash bros styled game featured characters from their history (non licensed so no Darth or Harry Potter and stuff). What characters would be in it? What would their movelist be? This is just for fun, I may end up making a character select screen or artwork down the road. But yeah this is just for fun and a what if this type of game existed discussion.

Character Idea -----

THE KING

Series: Castle

Jab - a 2 hit attack with his sword

Ftilt - swings his sword in front of him

Utilt - Swings sword in an arc above him

Dtilt - Swings sword at the feet of his opponent

Fsmash - Charges up his sword and slams it down in front of him

Dsmash - Stabs his sword into the ground erupting royalty on both sides of him

Usmash - Thrusts his sword into the air powerfully

Nair - Swings in a spin with his sword

Fair - Swings sword down wards in front of him

Dair - Swings sword below him, can spike

Bair - Kicks behind him with 2 kicks

Uair - Swings sword above him like a helicopter

Fthrow - Hits them with the hilt of his sword knocking them forward

Bthrow - Grabs them with his free hand and throws them behind him

Dthrow - Throws them to the ground and stomps on them popping them up

Upthrow - throws them upward

Side Special - Lion charge, charges and flings forward, longer charged the farther he goes

Up Special - A quick and powerful rising slash, doesnt go super high tho

Down special - Counter

Neutral Special - Charges his sword and thrusts it into the ground creating fire around him, the longer charged the bigger the hitbox and more damage it does.

Oh man, that would be amazing if they did that! But sadly I think such a game would be too violent for them. However, one can always dream! Here is my list:

Ninjago (Kai, Zane, Jay, Cole, Nya, Lloyd)

Attacks: martial arts, spinjitzu/airjitzu (similar to Meta Knight's spin attack), elemental attack (shoot fire/ice/lightning/rocks/water/green energy)

Special: Summon their dragons or one of their vehicles

Nexo Knights

Attacks: attack with their signature weapons, one or two of the Nexo power ups

Special: Summon their vehicles

Legends of Chima (Laval, Cragger, Eris, Gorzan)

Attacks: sword attack, plus Eris gets limited flight

Special: Chi mode (the character uses Chi and becomes super powered for a limited time)

(Ultra) Agents

Attack: shoot guns, throw explosives

Special: Enter helicopter and snipe enemies for a limited time. So, the Agents would basically be Solid Snake. :laugh:

Atlantis

Attack: shoot harpoons

Special: Use the portal keys to open a portal that sucks in enemies in the vicinity and damages them (like Kirby)

Power Miners

Attack: saw/drill attack, throw dynamite

Special: Summon large drill vehicle

Bionicle Toa

Attack: weapon attack, elemental attack

Special: Use a special mask that gives them extra power

Johnny Thunder

Attack: shoot pistols

Special: Put enemies in the vicinity under the Mummie's Curse

Emmett

Attack: jackhammer attack

Special: Summon Construct-o-Mech

Wyldstyle

Attack: martial arts

Special: Build the Super Cycle and run enemies over with it

Benny

Attack: space-age laser gun

Special: Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP Attack!

Good Cop/Bad Cop

Attack: laser gun

Special: Hit enemies with a chair

Unikitty

Attack: kick, dash

Special: Go into Berserker-kitty mode for a limited time

Those are just some ideas, and they don't even include any bad guys or ever-green themes like CIty, Space, or Castle. It would be hilarious if it included Friends as well! :laugh: And if it included licensed themes, the possibilities would be endless!

By a Smash Bros styled game, you mean a 2.5D fighting game, and not Smash with Lego, right?

Y'know, I could actually see a Lego character being in Smash. Maybe to show some cooperation between the two companies, like a little deal. Kind of like Snake when he was in Brawl.

However, the only viable character would be Chase McCain, as he originates from a video game, and it was a Nintendo exclusive.

However, Chase would be a boring character to include, as all he'd do is use judo on people and use his disguises for specials. And no one really wants him.

I would say to add a Ninjago character like Zane instead (as he is the most unique ninja), but Ninjago didn't originate from a game. However, the first Ninjago game was a Nintendo exclusive.

But then again, people ask for Naruto and Goku in Smash, but they didn't originate from games either.

I guess this means we should make up our own gameplay style for how the game would control.

Well obviously you'd move left and right, as well as jump. However, only agile characters would have this ability, as a nod to Lego games. Un-agile characters could have a combat roll or something else.

Now that we have movement out of the way, here is where we need something to set this game apart, and stand out from Smash and PSASBR. And I think that this would be a building system. While I don't know how this would work, it could probably be integrated into fights and work. While some characters like Ninjago and Bionicle never actually used Lego, they still can in this game, because... Trans-dimensional stuff.

As for attacks, It needs to stay original, so i'd say not to include charge up attacks, except your "final smash", which gets charged up somewhere. Except that this attack isn't super devastating, it just gives you an edge, like increase your attack and things like that.

Examples of this are Nexo Powers and NRG forms.

So yeah, they'd have basic attacks and special attacks like in smash, but no charge up or devastating final smash. Kind of like PSASBR.

As for characters, I say all original franchises, with highly requested characters as DLC.

So for the start-up roster, I say:

My ideas ----

Movement is on a 2.5D plane with the ability to move left and right, characters can shield and if they hit left or right roll, if hitting down the dodge in place. Characters shields can break if held for too long and some chars have shield breaking moves and throws will also knock them out of it. In the air if shield is hit they will simple dodge in the air. Basic 2.5D movement. All characters would have different jump heights, weight, run speed, walk speed, air speed, as well as # of jumps.

Attacks would remain simple like normal lego games but similar to the first few Lego Star Wars games if you hold or delay the button press you'll do a different move. Characters would have a special button, heaby attack button, light attack button, and shield button. Grabs can be done by pressing shield and one of the attack buttons and depending on if you hit heavy or light itll change the throw. Specials and attacks are based off of directions so players can press in a direction and depending on the character they will do different moves. Also unlike smash chars can have combo/attack strings from their heavy and light attacks as well as can juggle with attacks/throws/specials. So the game would be more combo heavy than that of smash or PSASBR. Characters would have a super/ultra meter that fills up over time allowing them to perform a super/ultra attack which is different per character.

Health would be an actual Health bar unlike smash or PSASBR and to focus on building battles can be either 1v1 or team based allowing the player to build a team of 2 or 3 characters and swap in and out between combos and such adding depth to who you play and use as a team. When a char takes damage and switches their health will slowly regain a little bit while swapped out but once all their health is gone they can no longer be swapped out. Stages would be fairly simple with hazards being able to be turned on or off. You dont die from falling in pits as there wouldnt be any since health is done through a normal health bar.

The thing is, rolling with [shield + direction] as well as shield break all rip off Smash. PSASBR knew this so they used no shields. Grabs also sort of rip off Smash as well. And so do shields in general. Except real shields characters actually have as equipment.

I do like how you propose light and heavy attacks and a real health bar though. That's unique, I think. I also like how you propose having a tag team mechanic in the game. I also mentioned that with my two Ultra Agents characters.

In fact, characters can have a team attack or something, that can get charged.

However, I do think that pits can be included in the game, you'll just lose some of your health.

I just thought of a new game mechanic: studs. Studs will unlock small things like victory animations and skins. You can't buy these, you earn them.

How they work in the game is that they can appear in story mode and two player fights like online or Multiplayer. You can do something to make your player lose their studs, just like in Lego games.

Yeah that makes sense. Also shielding is just blocking lol every fighting game needs a block button is what I was saying. So like not shield but just blocking. And since its a 2.5D fighter not being able to roll would be really weird in all honesty.

The studs could be what you win from winning matches and you can bet them on other fights and win/lose studs from other players.

You're right, rolling should be there, but rolling with [shield + direction] is a ripoff of Smash. I think.

Not really a rip off. Its a basic movement option.

Yeah but there's other ways you can roll too, like if you use L1 and R1, or the left and right bumpers on the front of the controller. It doesn't have to be [block + direction].
