I've tried my hands at these kinds of model kits before too, but really I prefer LEGO - like you say, no glue or cutting needed - and if you make a mistake you can easily take it apart again. I'd be too worried building a model with glue that I'd ruin it and waste a nice set! I like the Gundam type mechs/robots too. They're very well made and detailed for their size.
