  1. This is a topic for asking questions related to buying Lego direct from the makers. I thought it was a good idea for a topic and couldn't find a similar one. Now I wouldn't have made such a topic if I didn't have a question of my own, and it is as follows: Looking at the store calendars there appears to be an overlap of promos (I'm talking about the UK) and one would be able to get the minifig factory, the easter bunny and the Zane pod in one transaction, however I'm not sure the end and start dates for the promotions/gwp are inclusive or not , and I'm generally not quite sure if I've missed something. I got the information about the store calandars from Brickset and I saw the overlap as shown in the Image below.
  2. Some explanation of LEGO's financial performance in 2017 from the BBC News site. It was already known that the company had had disappointing sales in North America, but the article also points out over-production issues. There is a connection between poor sales and over-production of course, but some of the excess stock may be in addition to lower-than-expected sales. If LEGO over-reacts in the opposite direction, i.e. cuts production too drastically in 2018, we could see stock shortages and sets being retired sooner than we have been used to. Here is LEGO's press release.
  3. EDITED to include the actual press release and official links. Thanks to @Jim and @Digger of Bricks for those. Here are BrickLink's and TLG's official statements on the acquisition... BrickLink - BrickLink will join the LEGO Group BrickLink - A Message from the LEGO Group "BILLUND, Denmark, November 26, 2019: The LEGO® Group today announced it has acquired BrickLink Ltd (www.bricklink.com), the world’s largest online community of adult LEGO fans from NXMH to strengthen its connection with its important adult fan base. The BrickLink platform has more than one million members and comprises an online marketplace of more than 10,000 stores from 70 countries; a digital building software where builders can design and showcase their creations; and a vibrant online community where fans share ideas and builds. The platform was founded in 2000 by Dan Jezek as a way to connect like-minded adult LEGO fans from around the world. It was acquired in 2013 by NXMH, which is owned by Korean entrepreneur Jung-Ju “Jay” Kim. BrickLink is headquartered in Irvine, California. The LEGO Group CEO, Niels B Christiansen said: “Our adult fans are extremely important to us. They are passionate, committed and endlessly creative. We have worked closely with the community for many years and look forward to deepening our collaboration. We plan to continue to support BrickLink’s active marketplace and evolve the digital studio which allows our talented fans to take their creativity to the next level.” Jung-Ju “Jay” Kim, owner of NXMH, said: “It has been a privilege to lead the transformation of BrickLink during the past six years. I am grateful to the community for being so welcoming, supportive and constructive. I am constantly amazed by everyone’s endless creativity and their love for building. I am confident the platform will be in good hands with the LEGO Group. As a fan myself, I can’t wait to see what’s next.” The LEGO Group’s Chief Marketing Officer, Julia Goldin, said: “BrickLink provides the LEGO Group with a unique opportunity to connect with adult fans through new channels and exciting experiences. We’ve recently collaborated with BrickLink on a range of crowd-sourced sets to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the brick. We learned a lot and are keen to explore more ways of working together to create value. We look forward to collaborating further with our adult fans, while retaining and nurturing the independent spirit of the digital platform.” The acquisition also includes Sohobricks which makes small batches of building elements. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Closing is expected to occur before the end of 2019. About the LEGO Group: The LEGO Group’s mission is to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow through the power of play. The LEGO System in Play, with its foundation in LEGO® bricks, allows children and fans to build and rebuild anything they can imagine. The LEGO Group was founded in Billund, Denmark in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen, its name derived from the two Danish words LEg GOdt, which mean “Play Well”. Today, the LEGO Group remains a family-owned company headquartered in Billund. However, its products are now sold in more than 140 countries worldwide. For more information: www.LEGO.com. About BrickLink BrickLink is an online marketplace for LEGO® products and represents a vibrant adult fan community. The website was founded in April 2000 and currently has more than 1 million members. For more information: www.bricklink.com and @bricklink on IG and Twitter." Not sure how I feel about this. :S
  4. With the 2019 Annual Report being released yesterday, it also signaled a change in Chairman for The Lego Group. Thomas Kirk Kristiansen has been promoted from his position of Deputy Chairman to Chairman of the Board of Directors, taking over from his father, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen; marking the 4th generation of Kirk Kristiansen's to take the reins. Could this see a new direction for TLG? Or will Thomas just follow the course? What do you think? Does anybody have any anecdotal information about this guy's personality or what it's like to work with him?
  5. Will TLG be hosting their Fan Media Days event in Billund for 2019? Despite previous years' events taking place at the end of May, none of the AFOL media outlets I frequent (Brickset, New Elementary, Eurobricks, etc.) seem to be talking about it in advance.

  7. Do we, as AFOL's, have any influence on TLG? Hello, I have a question (you probably already saw that ;) i was like: I understand that it is not the goal of eurobricks but, we have for example a future whises topic. Does TLG do something with that? Is someone at TLG reading these topics for work? I could have asked this in the general discussion but i also would like to know if we had influence on the techinc/mindstorms line because that is the only theme i care about. and what exactly is the embassy? thanks!
