  1. David Beau Lune's background: As David enters Breshaun he feels like luck is on his side, he feels good and vaguely at home. He finally arrived at the town the girl of his dreams is supposed to live. At least according to an innkeeper in New Oleon. Eager to find her he wanders around the port thinking about where to start his search. "Is this the end of my journey?" he wonders out loud. "Orrr the beginning of an *hic* adventurre?"; a drunkard said. Allthough the guy was clearly the most drunk person David had ever seen, what the man said sparked something in David. Cheerful her replied: "Or the beginning of an adventure indeed, good sir." The guy didn't even seem to hear or understand him and continued on his not so steady way. David, tired from the journey, decided it was time to get some rest in an inn. Further down the road he saw a soldier standing, he surely must know where to find an inn, David thought. "Excuse me sir, can I ask you something?" The soldier turned around, his serious look turned into a smile in the blink of an eye. The soldier looked like a young lad, younger than David, younger than he had expected. "Ofcourse sir." The soldier said. "I just arrived here in Breshaun and I am looking for a good inn to get some rest, do you know of a good place?" David asked. "Sure, I'll walk with you sir, it is just around the corner from here." "Thank you very much! My name's David by the way, nice to meet you." David extended his hand. The soldier took the shake: "The name's Avery sir, Avery la Jambe-Longue." --- This is my first build in this time of age. Quite the change from Star Wars and sci-fi, but I'm glad the way it turned out. C&C appreciated! Bonus pics:
  2. The Tides have Changed by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr The uniform fit loosely in certain places. The shoulders sagged softly, unsupported. But Avery hadn't expected tailored attire like the elaborate clothes and fine linen the family was accustomed to. That stage of Avery's life was over--for now. Avery had less muscle tone than the usual boy of his age, and looked far younger too. His big eyes and soft cheeks were yet unhardened by life. No salt clung to his wavy caramel hair. Though it had recently been hand-cut, his bangs fell unceremoniously over his eyes. He brushed them aside as he stepped through the "Portail de la Victoire" La Portail de la victoire was a decorative arch marking the entrance to the docks from the fortifications. The gateway served as a reminder of Oleon's supremacy on the waves, and their countless victoies at sea, as they sought to tame these new and wild lands in the name of their gods. That's what the statue meant to most residents of Breshaun, but to Avery, the gate held a different meaning. As he stepped through it now, in his new uniform, his pack in hand, thee gate was the threshold between his old life, and the new. Not more than a year ago, the "De la Jambe-Longue" name would immediately be recognized in any high society event as the name of one of the most famous artists in the king's court. Daniel de la Jambe-Longue had made quite the positive impression on the late King Stephan II, who commissioned from him many a portrait and religious painting. And Daniel was skilled... but proud. His cleverness served to be his undoing, when he slipped symbolism into what he assumed would be his magnum opus, which conflated a clerical rival of his with the tyrannical Titans who came before the gods. They say that pride comes before the fall. Now Avery stood under the gate, between the bustling docks of Breshaun, and the neat and orderly sea-side fortifications. Between the streets that held Avery's old part-time residence, the de la Jambe-Longue family's Breshaun townhouse, and the cobbled road that held his new residence, a wooden bunk and some dirty tanned cloth in a brick and stone fort.... That is... until the HMS Titan-Slayer was returned to working condition. Avery was not to be a land-based soldier. He'd enlisted in the navy, and would be a member of the crew aboard the famous pirate-hunting vessel known as "The Titan-Slayer." But the ship was still under repairs after a run-in with its primary quarry, the infamous pirate lord "Reynard LeRoublard." The New Oleander pirate had made a name for himself terrorizing the seas of the Old World, and headed east to be a founding member of the Sea-Rats, but then abandoned them on Bastion and returned to the west. Unbeknownst to many, but suspected by Avery, upon the Pirate Lord's ship, "the Titan's Tithe" was none-other than the escaped Daniel de la Jambe-Longue. Avery was determined to rescue him. Only by confronting the Order could the de La Jambe Longue family restore their once grand name... and truthfully, he feared for his safety and well-being. Daniel was family, and family was everything. The Tides have Changed by Danny-Longlegs, on Flickr So Avery stood there, below the stone of the arch, contemplating his future. He turned. He walked up the winding path to the fort. Fates change as often as a woman changes clothes, Avery mused. ~~~~~~ So, this is my first Freebuild and Introductory build. Gotta get that 25 DP! I won't licence it, as that feels like a waste to me, but I might later on if I'm feeling flush. It'd be a Small Art and Culture property if I did. I know this comes into play for determining analogous unlicensed properties in Breshaun's total Trade value, so I'll leave this here as well as on the Breshaun Settlement page. Forgot about my "First Free Licence" so It's now licensed. I've finally joined! Comments and Critiques are more than welcome. I don't often build historical structures. I've always been more of a sci-fi fan, so any recommendations are more than appreciated. Bonus pic of the Titan-Slayer's Captain, Etienne du Coeurgris standing below the arch. Unlike Avery, he is far more decisive about his direction, for his is the way of the gods, and the way of the law, and the way of light. 3. Hello people! This is an adaptation of a medieval MOC i created a couple of days earlier. It was a Crusaders vs Falcons siege but i couldn't miss the opportunity of an Oleon free build (and the 10 DBs that come along), so i adapted it accordingly and now you can see a State prison located in Mainland, Granoleon. Note that in my LEGO life, i have always regarded blueco...eeeehrm, Oleon Empire as a spiritual successor to the Falcons faction . As always, thanks for watching!
  4. After almost a month, mostly occupied by work and fending off nightmares and denial about rigging, making sails and sewing, i proudly present you the merchant sloop "Crete". Pictures were taken from my secondary source of photographing (mobile) so photos aren't that great. But you can get the idea. This is my first attempt at a brick built hull and the famous Dunkleosteus hinge technic. I believe it works wonders, regardless my omission to sloping the stern. For those you think the hull is too tall (i had my reservations too), imagine it 2 bricks lower due to cargo carrying when put at sea. Regarding the tiller design, i haven't found a better solution, so after 5-6 iterations, i just went with the one you see on the photos. Finally i wanted to brick-build the main mast too but i ran out of round 2x2 bricks way too soon so out of my frustration, i used the mast of the recent TLG pirate ship nearly unchanged. BL orders are on their way so i guess my next ship will be more personalized. Inspiration came from all the great photos and designs and articles about sloops of the 18th century. For those who want to take their try on handmade sails and sewing their ship's rigging, i have an advice: Don't despair! In the faaaaaaaar end, it will look nice. Until then, get a very nice desk lamp and fortify yourselves with determination and patience. There were more than a dozen times i wanted to discard the whole project during the rigging phase and i cant believe there are sane people that build scaled wooden replica ships. Oh, i nearly forgot it! Credits for the Eltina flag, goes to KB for the design and Kustom Bricks for its implementation. Anyway, I believe this is a 3T trade ship so if everybody agrees i will stick to this category, unless the board at the Admiralty promotes it to 4T More pictures follow (some more on Flickr as well) and as always, thanks for watching!
  5. Oleon Vs Namere build off part 3.. The silver parrot.. and the secret beneath the lighthouse.. And so the investigator following the Pine Sol traces reached a hardware store attached to an old lighthouse. On the outside the shop appeared as any other hardware store in New Terra, but things tends to be deceiving... It is said that… If you want to find anything in New Terra, you will find it at the "Silver Parrot"... - Aye Hugo.. We 'll eat today!! - Good evening, I am looking for Pine Sol. - Good evening dear sir. We dont have such things in our store. - Maybe with 100 DB you can search a bit more? - Hmm, in that case I can do something for you... Follow me into the basement. There we keep special stuff for special customers... - This is the best Pine Sol in the whole New Terra - You see, that's interesting because recently a big amount of it was bought by a certain Namerean "sir" that stole some Oleander ships and used it to clear all his traces on board the ships.. Strangely enough, these Pine Sol traces lead to your shop… - I swear I had nothing to do with it!! - If you want to get away with it, I want proofs when and to whom you have recently sold your Pine Sol. Or else... - Right away! Here you are! These are my secret ledgers… -Eureka!!! This is the whole MOC, representing the third part of the Oleon-Namere build-off. C&C welcome! The basic idea for the multilevel moc it came from Jacob Nion here.
  6. Hi guys, I guess it's still the 25th somewhere on the dark side... of the moon So here goes, part II of Oleon's side of the build-off with Namere. Investigating “A fresh lemon scent.” That was all that the crew of La Recouvrance noticed when they arrived at their rendezvous point with Scimitar and Commerce de Breshaun. Nothing else. The ships were gone. Other crews had reported seeing a ship flying a changing set of flags, causing them to run, since only pirates would change their flags to unlawfully prey on ships. And several reports hinted at an involvement of the Namerians, so Granoleon decided to have the ambassador in Balmin launch an investigation. The Royal Court knew the Namerians were opposing any trade relations with the Marderians, and would offer letters of marque to anyone to interrupt trade routes. But there hadn't been any trade between Oleon and Mardier in years, so should the rumors of an Namerian involvement turn out to be true, seizing both vessels would have been an act of piracy, not to be justified by any letter of marque! So a private investigator was hired to shed some light on the mysterious disappearance of the two ships and Namere's role in this story. The investigator's first stop were the docks in Balmin. But so far he has had no luck finding any traces. But suddenly... could it be? A fresh lemon scent! It's a start. But will it lead somewhere? Thanks for watching C&C as always welcome! Vive le Roi!
  7. "Grump, how isolated can a factory be? Such a long journey... I hope I finally get that promotion so I can sit on my lazy "behind", enjoying my cup of tea every morning instead of travelling allover the world inspecting factories..." With these words, Inspector Ed Spill entered the lighthouse factory. This time he had to check if the world famous Pine Sol they made here, is made in all safety, with respect for environmental blabla and the wellbeing of the workers. How long would it take before the owner of this factory kicks his megablocks and throws him out. The record is 15 seconds... That was at a time he visited a factory in Stedor. Too bad for Ed Spill, it was Lord Damaximus, the big boss of that factory who welcomed him. The moment he said "wellbeing of workers", Lord Damaximus kicked him out of the factory, yelling something about "hating hippies". It was indeed time for that well deserved promotion of Spill. Now he thinks about it, he better should buy a soft cushion for under his behind as his behind hurts a lot due all that hippykicking. Anyway, time to inspect this factory... "Velcome, noble stranger. How can ich help you?" A voice said above him. Ed looked to the balcony, seeing a weirdly dressed guy commanding all the workers. Already failed in the category "boss helping his workers". "Hello sir, I am Inspector Spill, Ed Spill. I am here to rate your factory considering environmental blablabla and safety for your workers." "Hahaha Spill-Ed, Dat iz very funny accurate in my factory!" - the boss replied - "Ich am dr. Pine Sol von Lichtenhouse" "Never heard that joke before..." [drPSvL] Az you can seeh, we have de most innovative equipment in here. We have a crane, pinguins, workers, a fire-pit, some barrels and a Hocuzpocuz-bottle-filler. [spill] Pinguins? [drPSvL] Jawol! Dey got de perfect body-mass-index to pulverize de Pine-Leaves. Das is de ruse of our Pine Sol! [spill] So pinguins, who basically live in the coldest places on earth, are working in a factory, next to a fire pit? [drPSvL] Jawol! Very true! Ich have to admit, dey are very expensive upkeep. [spill] Seriously? Do tell me why... [drPSvL] We have to send dem on vacation every 2 weeks to de very far Nord. Oderwise dey are striking too much. Striking pinguins are never fun working with. [spill] So every two weeks your factory has to close for 2 weeks? [drPSvL] Oh noo, we got plenty enough pinguins. One pair of pinguins on holiday, oder pair is working here. [spill] Allright, and what happens with the pulverized and stamped Pine leaves? [drPSvLH] Dey are added in a big barrel soo dere can be red Corrie Chemical Company Alchemist cubes added. De rezult is bleu Pine Sol! Az said, we got de most innovative technology here... [spill] So those are dangerous Alchemist cubes, and that guy touches them with his skin? [drPSvLH] Oh no! After he lost hiz eye due a chemical aczident, we gave him bandana. He still haz his hair thanks to our precious care! [spill] I was talking about his hands, but thanks for the info! [drPSvLH] Aaah but he haz yellow gloves. True story! [spill] What is the guy with white bandana doing around the big barrel? [drPSvLH] Once de ingredients all turned to blue Pine Sol cubes, he throws dem into de big barrel. Sehr efficient! Now de craneguy fills a grey box with Pine Sol cubes and makes it hang above de firepit. [spill] And the completely red guy with red bandana? What is his job? [drPSvLH] He haz to navigate the box... True Story! [drPSvLH] Und once de cubes are fluid, de box is placed above the HocuzPocuz-Bottle-Filler. Top Notch! [spill] I see... And the grey rat on this floor, what is his meaning in the whole process? [drPSvLH] No idea, nein. But what about your banana in your handz? It haz no meaning neither, haz it? [spill] Point taken... Thanks for the quick tour, I am going now back home. [drPSvLH] You are velcome! Take care, becauze I hear thunder in de distance... Is it thunder? --- Thanks for watching!! C&C welcome :)
  8. Baron Nicolas, his brother Baron Pierre and their friend professor Cartier are very close to discover the Fountain of Youth. Professor Cartier: According to this map, the fountain should be right here... Baron Pierre: There is nothing here, we are at the edge of the island and in front of us is only an open sea... Baron Nicolas: Hm, very strange, the map is supposed to be correct. Maybe, it is beneath us, but now we must find an entrance to it. The Fountain of Youth by Nikola Đurić, on Flickr
  9. The hunting of youth source Following the footsteps of father Tholeau, Diego Mpyromaxos de Valdés with a small group, began the search for the fountain of youth.. After several days in the jungle, and faced wild beasts, hungry natives, poisonous reptiles and nature elements, they finally managed to find the fountain of youth! Diego and his friend officer of Oleon Arsène, can now return to New Terra and tell the good news to the king .. who certainly will not leave them with empty hands, but he will give them honor and glory.. But it looks, that they are not alone out there.. Thank you for reading and good luck to all the challengers! C&C are welcome !
  10. "Grump, how isolated could a lighthouse be?" Ed Spill didn't know wether he should be happy or weeping. His great evaluation of the Pine Sol factory had given him a chance on promotion, and he had been glad to accept. Had, past perfect. He hadn't known that the promotion was from evaluating factories to evaluating lighthouses. See wether they were guarded in all safety, with respect for environmental blabla and wellbeing of the coast guards. In se, that wouldn't have been so bad (everything but having to see that awful Lord Damaximus again!) he had even bought a new costum (freshly ironed by his mum), but well... Noone had told him to expect this: he was standing on probably the smallest isle in the (un)known world looking to the oldest lighthouse in that same (un)known world. And not only the oldest, also the dirtiest. He was afraid his costum would be rubbish after this visit... And his mum certainly wouldn't like that. Anyway, time to inspect the lighthouse... "Have you lost anything?" Yup, failed in the category warm welcome to strangers. Spill: "Yes, that is no, I've come here to inspect this lighthouse. See wether it is guarded in all safety, with respect for environmental blabla and wellbeing of the coast guards, you know." A sudden tought ocurred to him: "Wait, your boss isn't called Damaximus is he?" Guard: "Nope. I'll call the boss, t-he's doing a tucky." Aaand failed in the category boss helping workers. Boss: "You there? Who are you? Make you known or you'll get it in the neck!" Spill, afraid the boss might be some hippykicking relative of Damaximus: "Hello Sir, I'm Inspector Ed Spill, and I'm here to see wether the lighthouse is guarded in all safety, with respect for environmental blabla and wellbeing of the coast guards, you know." Boss: "Hmmm. I'll give you a tour then. Don't want bad relations with the Commission for Maintanance, Repair and Erection of Lighthouse in the Royal Region of Islands Known By Absolutely Noone. But not like we care about safety-regulations ot he environmental blabla here, you see?." Spill: "True story." The boss stenched like pigs. Spoiled pigs. Boss: "Actually, your quite lucky: we have just gotten a cargo of about three tons of cleaning detergent, you see." Spill did more smell than see it: "Yes, I know that. Pine Sol, isn't it? I hate that thing!" He was sure his theory of Damaximus and the Boss of the lighthouse being in league against him was confirmed. "Let's see..." Spill took up the bill. 3 tons of Pine Sol, these men were crazy! Why on earth (if they were still on earth, this island was so isolated he wasn't sure anymore) would someone need so much cleaning detergent? Well, it was not his problem, and he wanted to be gone from this godforsaken lighthouse. Next thing on his list: insurances. Spill: "May I see your insurance please?" Boss: "Here here, we're very ensured, you see?" While handing over some sandy papers. Insurance: this Pine Sol was made with respect for the environmental blabla -Spill didn't believe a word of that - and safety regulations for it's workers. That was true, if you didn't see pinguins as workers. If it doesn't remove all traces left by your latest crime, you can ask for a refund here:... Now, that was interesting! Spill: "Boss, what does th..." He is interrupted by a large thunderclap. Spill: "What was that? That wasn't the thunder; it were firing cannons! Take me up to the top, boss!" ---------------------------------- So, here my build finally is! I hope you like it, and it will also be used in the Faction Action category of the Summer Joust, now guess wich faction I'm not totally satisfied with the result, so CC is very welcome!
  11. Ahoy mateys, A ship - who would have guessed?! Presenting: The 'Scimitar' The Scimitar is a rather unusual sight in the waters of New Terra. She is what most people these days would call a Xebec – a ship type clearly not common to the shipwrights of the Madrice Peninsula. And she wasn't built in Oleon. In fact, her true origins lie to the far south. She was bought by the Royal Shipyards from merchantmen who traded in Granoleon. Merchantmen from the Mokolei Empire, where expertly crafted Xebecs are used vastly as warships as well as traders. The Royal Shipyards were impressed by the Scimitar's cargo capacity, but astonished by her protective capacities. Arming a fast trade ship that heavily is something not very common outside the Rogian Sea, where pirates are a constant menace to merchant ships. But with the ever increasing trade volume here, more pirates are likely to try finding opportunities to prey on unprotected traders in the Eastern Brick Seas, also. So what better opportunity to learn new concepts and adapt to the new times than to buy a veteran ship, that excelled under such conditions. The Xebec design is now being studied extensively by the Royal Shipyards' master shipwrights, and the Scimitar has been given Oleander colors. Now she is ready to sail under her new flag. And - as always - IFS shaming about: This one was a tough one to build. Building the angled poop deck, and attaching it to the rest of the ship - without gravity and the magic capabilities of the opposable thumb - was, well... difficult. So was designing the latin yardarms (or what they are called) Credits for the 'eye' design go to Dunkleosteus. Some numbers: She's 92 studs long at the waterline, length overall is 135, and she is 23 studs wide. She's also my first ship to feature completely snoted decks. For now her intended class is a 5F, but I armed her a bit heavier than the average 5F, so that might change with the new ship list. I hope you like her, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  12. L'Aile du Pontis (The Pontis Wing) of the Royal Palace in Granoleon is where King Philip I and Queen Beatrice of Oleon have their residence. I built this for the Oleon introduction and for the Coronation festivities mini-challenge. If you think I've not been very active on the forum or (like me) think my challenge II build were a bit rushed, here is the explanation Finally I get to show this build to you (at least those of you who are not friends with me on Flickr and have already seen WIP pictures there. Thanks to all of you for the valuable feedback during the design phase!) This is my first attempt at baroque architecture, inspired by the the Royal Palace of Stockholm and other similar palaces. Thanks to all of you who provided feedback during the build and I will also give due credit to my fellow LUG member Wineyard for the design elements I've stolen borrowed from his LDD creations. Vive le Roi!
  14. Native Outrigger Canoe This is my Challenge I category A entry. In the waters around the newly discovered islands there are already some smaller crafts sailing. One common type of vessel is the outrigger canoe, used by the natives for fishing and for travelling between the islands. A number of sightings of these craft have been reported by the early explorers of Oleon. So far the natives seems peaceful…
  15. First Chapter: The Heart of Darkness (Land Ho!) I am on the run. The Realm of Hades is real for I have seen it. I witnessed the demons that lived therein and now I run. What have we done to earn this curse from the Gods? Like many others we set out to discover new lands, which we eventually did, but it was not at all as expected. Together with several other men I was sent out to forage and explore our surroundings by my Lord and Commander of the expedition: the blessed Henri Antoine La Valette, de la Rocheforte. May the Gods watch over this noble man. We should've known this land was cursed from the start. At first sight it looks and feels like home. The cold, the snow, the pine trees. Yet around every corner there lurks something new and it changes our entire experience of this land. Above all, though, the desolateness and primeval wildness gives me the creeps. All one can hear is the creaking of trees, the howling of the wind and the movement of nature in general. These forests are alive, but we know not with what. Our group hit a small body of water and decided to take a break. We heard the singing of birds, which we had not heard before. We admired the sounds, but they were like the sounds of the mythical sirens, only meant to enthrall us. Before we knew it, several of our troops fell down and arrows whizzed around us. Out of the tree line they came, painted devils, servants of Hades. Cruel heathen dogs. I scurried away and saw them slaughter and enslave my comrades. They cut off their scalps and proudly displayed them as trophies while yelling bestial shrieks. They stole our blue coats and wore them to mock us. Despite the cold, many were dressed in nothing but leathers and some even went bare-chested. Their head was shaven, bare for a spiked ridge across their skull and their faces and bodies were festooned with hellish markings. I was lucky to be able to scurry away. Who knows what my fate would've been? May Zeus bless my journey so I can make it back to Henri and recount what I have witnessed. Two unedited pictures:
  16. Small Hermes was constructed at the fine shipyards of New Oleon and ordered to sail to Breshaun, Le Bellan, so as to assist trading there and further the interests of the great Oleander nation. Due to its experienced multinational crew, it can overcome nearly every difficulty thrown at her in the sea. The only slight drawback is the lack of armament as it is currently carrying only 4 swivel guns and one canon. Oleander citizens that don't have a ship yet, can licence this merchant ship as his/her first licenced ship for free for a month's duration, in order to test the MCRA model of the game. If no Oleander citizen is found to licence it, then any participant of BoBS can licence it again for free for a month's duration. 17. Dear Sir, You are hereby directed to attend upon His Majesty's representative Commandant Louis Millet this Sunday at ten after eleven.... With the letter stowed in his coat, Captain Anthony Genaro walked along the all too familiar quay. Being beached for the past months made his mood progressively gloomier, with nothing to do but collect his half-pay and watch more fortunate captains depart for lands unknown. But today Genaro bore no trace of the man who had been ashore the past few months, for (short of a court-martial) this letter could mean only one thing; Genaro had been assigned a ship. The thought of a ship, and the full-pay that accompanied a command, made Genaro a new man. And as he walked along the quay, he couldn't help but glancing over his shoulder at the vast expanse of ocean just beyond the harbor. The Waterfront by Capt. 18. Tensions rose and excitement grew as the most powerful nations of the Old World set out to discover new lands in the East. Like many other, so too did Henri La Valette leave his domains in northern Oleon and sailed off. First, he visited his holdings on LeBellan and gathered some more men there and then finally went on to discover the unknown. Crossing the Sea of Storms however, both of Henri's vessel were struck by a powerful storm. Battered by heavy rainfall and blown off course by violent winds, Henri and his men were lost at sea. Having great difficulty assessing their position in these uncharted waters, they nevertheless pushed forward, dreaming of gold and newfound riches. Finally they found land, but it was not what they had in mind at all. It was nowhere near as tropical as LeBellan. In fact, it was cold and it reminded them more of home than some other place. Henri sent out a foraging party, but when they didn't return after a great amount of time, he decided to go out by himself and some of his men to try and find his lost soldiers. The undergrowth was thick and the air was cold. Patches of snow dotted the landscape and the party experienced a lot of difficulty trying to make their way through the pine trees. On top of that, Henri felt like he was being watched with every step he took on this Gods-forsaken island. What madness lies within these forests? So here's my build for the first Challenge. It's not that big, I know, but it's been a while since I had my hand at some landscaping so I wanted to try that here. I tried making an irregular base, but the result isn't completely to my liking. I hope it's okay that the island is more snow-y and winter-y, or does it absolutely have to be more caribbean style?
  19. The lost heritage.. Shortly after Diego reached New Terra, he received a letter. A letter from his grandfather Damian Mpyromaxos De Valdes.. Granting him the ownership of a building.. So Diego visited a Notary to find out what this building was...
  20. Since ages well forgotten, atop rock formations one can usually find plenty fortifications. One such fortification is the examle below. And where the rock left something to be desired as far as defense is concerned, fine Oleander engineers filled the gap with their awesome sloped wall ™ technique! So, behold the result and let nobody say that Oleanders don't know how to defend themselves! Roleplaying aside, i made this attempt at a sloped fort as i wanted to see how well do sloped walls blend into rock formations. Inspiration came from the great venician fortification at Crete. A big thanks to those that contributed their ideas while on WIP status (Cpt Genaro, Mpyromaxos, Ardohoth etc) More on Flickr. Thanks for watching!
  21. Ahoy ya scurvy sea dogs, Another day - another ship, this time: The 'Gladiateur' Gladiateur is a veteran brig of war, built for La Royale about a half a decade ago by the Royal Shipyards in Quilbignon. For most of her service life she was stationed in New Oleon, but now the Admiralty has decided to assign her to the New Terra Fleet. In preparation for this, she recently underwent an extended overhaul, during which her hull was structurally improved, and she received an armament of sixteen 12-pounder long guns. Experienced and well armed, Gladiateur is now entering the arena that is the Eastern Brick Seas, ready to strike devastating blows to her adversaries. And in comparison to the IFS: about: Yes, those really are prefabs! Well, in fact only the upper bow/stern elements are, the rest of the hull is made of curved slopes. Gladiateur is based on an older design, but being sort of the only of my prefab ships, that I really liked, I thought she'd deserve her place here in BoBS, and renewed her. Gladiateur is no spectacular ship, but she's a fighting workhorse, right what's needed on the waves these days - I hope you can like her despite her simplicity. C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  22. Ahoy, laddies! As the Lord Chancellor said, there will be ships. But let's start small, shall we? Presenting: 'Le Protecteur' Being a light topsail schooner, agile and with a shallow draft, Le Protecteur excels at patrol duty in difficult waters, anti pirates sweeps, and reconnaissance missions, freeing La Royale's much needed heavy hitters for more challenging ventures. Crewed by experienced men, and captained by an able sea dog Le Protecteur will surely master the tasks ahead of her. about: Some of you might have recognized the resemblance to La Recouvrance. That's no coincidence. But Le Protecteur was in fact the ship to be launched first, and La Recouvrance was modeled only afterwards. I just never came around to post the ship, and the actual need to do so only arose... well, recently. As always, all can be built. And for quite some time I did have an urge to really build this ship... but then other ships happened Just FYI, her length at the waterline is 57 studs, LOA is 85, and she's 18 studs wide. For now she'll be a class 3A, let's see if that changes with the next ship list. C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  23. Meet Olivier Thibaut. He is a farmer's boy, growing up in a remote, rural area of central Oleon. It's a quiet and beautiful place he calls his home, far away from all world's troubling affairs. But Olivier is 16 years of age, a young man, and although still a child at mind his dreams are big. He wants to be out there. He wants to see more of this world. However, Olivier is bound by his family's values and by regional traditions. 'Change' is not a favorite term of most. Yet ever since fantastic stories of new lands across the vast sea are spreading - along with rumors of all their promises, riches and adventures - all he can think of is travel - and new shores. What will the future hold for Olivier? Well, only time will tell. In fact... I will... but later Most of the freebuilds to follow will bare some connection to Olivier's story, be that by direct interaction, places visited or people met, although not from the beginning, since parts of his story are way older than the rules of BoBS, and now merging both 'worlds' will need a little time. Also, as you might guess, this is going to be an all digital approach to this venture. Rest assured however, that it is my personal challenge that everything could be build in real bricks unless stated otherwise. On that subject, in this build the tiny flag on the fort would not work, but could be replaced by a minifigure hand or whatnot. Oh, and here's a bird's view of that little scene. Thanks for watching, C&C welcome.
  24. Hi guys, I'd like to present my first freebuild here, for the glorious Empire of Oleon. It's a small shipyard in the vicinity of the city of Breshaun. Small shipbuilding facilities such as this one have sprung up in the dozens all over Le Bellan to meet the demand for ships these days. Although being simple stations without the grandeur and vivacity of the large 'Royal Shipyards', they are a vital part of Oleon's plans for expansion in the new world. In fact they are part of the 'Royal Shipyards' system and fulfill a dual purpose. Firstly they relieve the larger facilities from both construction and maintenance of smaller vessels, freeing the hands and minds of the master shipwrights there, enabling them to focus on the planning and execution of more capital ships. But in addition, these small stations are being led by dedicated junior shipwrights single-handedly as part of a teaching program. Those that excell in the duties thrusted upon them are awarded the status of master shipwright, thus increasing the shipbuilding potential of the nation even with sparse resources. Here's some more: Hope you guys like it, C&C welcome. Vive le Roi!
  25. I meant to post this last month, but got caught up with work. I am particularly interested in criticism on the furniture, as that is something that I have never built a lot of in the past. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Captain Anthony Genaro" announced the steward. With his hat under his left arm, Captain Genaro paused and bowed towards the idol of Poseidon on the mantle before immediately turning towards the commandant's desk and the unknown gentleman, a scowl on his face, sitting behind it. "I'm afraid, sir, that I have not yet made your acquaintance," said Genaro, standing resolute. "Humph, and a small wonder, too. Shaggy, unshaven, and a wig that doesn't even properly cover the whole head" observed the stranger just loud enough for Genaro to hear. "I am Monsignor Befort de Granoleon, assistant to His Majesty's representative. Yes, I know you are meeting with Commandant Millet, but he is indisposed of, and as his assistant, I am taking all his appointments for the time being." The Admiralty Without offering a seat to Genaro, Befort rummaged through the papers that littered the desk, came up with a folded letter, and handed it to Genaro. Taking a sip of wine (which Befort had also declined to offer to Genaro), Genaro began to read the letter and was astonished by what he saw. "Surly there has been a mistake!" exclaimed Genaro. "It appears that I have been the Little Hermes, a mere merchantman." Looking up from his paperwork, Befort paused and stared at Genaro. "You are an officer in the King's fleet and a servant to the crown, and you shall do as he and his representatives command." "This command may be fitting of a lieutenant, but I am a proper post-captain and am entitled to," Genaro began to object. "You are entitled to nothing, Captain" interrupted Befort, "you may either take this command or you may deny it. It makes no difference to me, but do hasten with your decision as you are not the only appointment I have today." The Admiralty Minutes later, a furious Captain Genaro exited the Admiralty building, orders for the Little Hermes in hand. It may have been a blackguardly offer, but Genaro's heart longed for the sea (and the full pay that came with it), and you couldn't turn down a command without being blacklisted for years to come.
