From watching the vid, it only looks like you need 2.5 toothed plates to enable it to turn 360 which is nasty. So, have you tried just using your new modded half plate on its own, or even just one whole one?....does the mech not turn enough to tip and once passed the toothed plate just drop back down to rest position under its own weight?

Thank you guys A drop off version built in also is certainly the next step, who knows when though, the next month or maybe another 2 years? I've had my fill of this one so far, so now its working well, it wont get rebuilt quite yet It is 7 wide onto a 5 wide base. I didnt photo it fully as only one side of the roof is finished! Its metalic silver, hence the glare off it.

No actually TT did not. I am one of the model designers for TT so rest assured this is correct. Due to current NDA's restricting me, I may be able to go more into the ins and outs of it all once the game is public.

Thank you Not yet I'm afraid, as the carriage still needs the undersides detailing. Its been built to go at the end of the Scotsmans rake (all those coaches still need to be transitioned into 7 wide though!), but maybe behind a Mallard at some point, as this engine is still on my "to do" list?

The layout looks great, I think I've had this in my fav folders from Brickshelf for some years now. Out of curiosity, what do you use for your ballast, as it looks quite large? I used cat litter, but again I feel it was too large, it looked like rocks rather than stones compared to traditional model railway scale ballast. I really like the led usage, I purchased many some time back but never got around to getting them fitted. Again, out of curiosity are your signals 12v LEGO ones, or MOC's with LED's? Do you know, or do you think you can estimate how much money all the 12v stuff has cost you over the years? I have quite a large collection of it now and I know roughly how much its all cost, its quite frightening!

It was only after being particularily impressed by Pete Watermans models having working suspension that I thought it would be a nice feature to be able to show the public at exhibitions on one carriage by pushing down on it manually. After posting images of my first design, the usefullness that this could provide for exhibition running where track is often very bumpy due to odd level tables started to become apparant from various comments. These led me to further look into making this self working from carriage weight alone. What I have pictured are the basics, I feel there is a lot of scope all around them to suit personal requirements. Whilst I had no plans to, I will be making a 4 carriage rake using these, but I'm more interested in building it into an engine and tender now I've seen the potential;)

Thank you :D I think you probably saw the old design that required physically pushing downwards on by hand to get it to opperate (it was really only for exhibitions). I've only just posted this new design / article on Flickr, this one allows full operation by carriage weight alone ;)

:D Thank you, I'm flattered. Sadly, due to circumstances too dificult to explain, that layout all had to be dismantled this weekend.....Years to build and a day to destroy :( The silver lining to the dark cloud is that there will be a bigger one, eventually :)

I would say the asnwer is entirely subjective. Some people may like it, others may not. However, I mix 6 and 7 wide frequently and consider it to look fine.
