Same as you DrJB, it was the 8461 Williams F1 Racer in 2003. But the set which made me fall in love with Lego again is the second one I bought after coming out of the dark age: the 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer. Definitely the best set ever

Anyone knows if the piece count indicated by Brickpedia (2049) is reliable? This set seems to have so much less pieces than for example 8421, 8285 or 8258, which have less than 1900 pieces.

Anyone knows how many parts the 8110 will contain ? At least approximately

At last, TLG has put the instruction booklets in an envelope. Why on hell did they wait that long to take this simple precaution !

Hope this graph helps. As we can except, Star Wars sets are the most expensive. Grand Carousel is an exception because it contains a motor. The surprise comes from the Statue of Liberty which is rather expensive in its category. Maybe because it was the first set of this type. This is based upon prices indicated by Peeron.

I guess you'll see that the price is not directly linked to the number of parts. Licensing and type of parts are to be taken into account.

Here is a graphic that shows the Lego sets with more than 2500 parts. First, we can notice that all these sets were released in the past 10 years, and that obviously there is a ride towards the biggest.

Considered that the Taj Mahal is €300, €219.99 is a good deal. I was so angry not long ago, when I saw they sell the Motorized Excavator at €195.

As far as I know, the previous record was the Statue of Liberty with 504 sandgreen Brick 2 x 2 Corner. http://peeron.com/cgi-bin/invcgis/inv/sets/3450-1?PagerSortDir=r&PagerSortCol=Qty My tan cheese number estimate was 580 : On each tower corner column : Tower base : 30 2nd floor : 18 3rd floor : 18 4th floor : 6 Multiply this by 4 columns / tower, and add 2 on the counterforts, makes 290. Finally multiply by 2 towers, makes 580.

One mistake on the box : they translated the landmark name in French by "Le Pont de Londres" and in Spanish by "El Puente de Londres". This is the London Bridge, not the Tower Bridge. In French, we don't translate the name and just call it "Le Tower Bridge".

Hey people, why are you all so interested in having a huge quantity of Tan Slope Brick 1 x 1 x 2/3 ?

As were the Eiffel Tower or the Taj Mahal, these sets are obviously intended for AFOLs. What child would ask his parents a Taj Mahal replica for Xmas ?

I was hoping the model had the fonctionality to lift the center bridge manually (if not motorized). But it seems this is all static. Too bad.

I'm disappointed they did not model the smaller towers at each extremity of the bridge.

What strikes me in this set in the number of windows. I've counted 50 of them. Sure this set beats the record don't you agree?
