You don't think the bank would be the one from the opening scene?
-
It's a pity this thing is so horrendously expensive for what I'd call a novelty item.
-
Thanks, Fabuland always makes me nostalgic. I was gutted when the cancelled the line - I was only 5 years old. It's a pity the images aren't consistenly in focus.
-
I saw this for $140NZ ($107US) yesterday and had a wtf moment. I'd pay maybe $30NZ for one... On the other hand, it does look soundly made, but it's of no use beyond novelty factor for me as my sorting methods are much more complex than merely size.

Hmm - the Maersk train is set 10219. What's the bet that 10218 is our new modular building?
-
Hopefully we'll find out with the next Lego club mag - they usually put it on a printout in there as to whom has what exclusive sets. Given that no-one knows, it'll almost certainly be the Warehouse...

Rust in vrede, Dieter. Van harte gecondolerd met de verlies van je broer, zoon, of familiegenoot - het is niet eerlijk dat jullie dit is overkomen... - Pieter (25), Nieuw Zeeland. --------- Rest in peace, Dieter. LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
Grrr replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Has anyone else noticed just how badly damaged the polybags and instructions get from everyone feeling them up? It's a pity really. -
Just bought my missing Alien from the Warehouse in Te Rapa - they only had about 8 of the collectable figs left...
-
I have a spare racecar driver that I'd be happy to trade for your spare alien...
-
That's the main problem. I'd say it takes about 2-3 minutes per bag. Also, only once you're overly familiar with all the sets do you stop making mistakes. For example, the Samurai's sword is flexible, as is the Fisherman's rod. The cyborg is definately the easiest, just look for his pin leg.

Yes, I paid full price for my minifigs the other day too :(. Moreover, I had a hell of a time identifying the figs. I bought 24 all up, and about 4 of them could find those mystery dots. Have 15 out of the 16 figs - still need an Alien. The Hula girl is one of the hardest to find imho, I bought a few wrappers thinking they where the hula girl. Best bet is to look for the hair...

There was talk of many Christchuch retailers keeping sales going longer because of the Boxing day aftershock. I doubt the rest of us will have this extended discount :(.

Trading Collectable Minifigs Series 1, 2 and 3
Grrr replied to danim's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I'm in New Zealand, and would prefer to trade within NZ or at a stretch, Australia. Want: Alien Have (opened): Gorrilla Suit Guy Race Car Driver Indian Cheif Baseball Player Rapper Mummy -
Warehouse in Te Rapa has 2011 City (police), S3 minifigs and Ninjago. Anyone had much luck with those stupid dots on the bottom of minifig bags? I've had no luck at all with them. Better off feeling the contents of the bags. Sigh. Now to find: Space Alien If anyone is after: Baseball Player Indian Chief Race Car Driver Rapper Gorrilla Suit Guy Mummy Let me know as I'm happy to do swapsies. Particularly if you are in Hamilton.

Thanks Allan, Not too much new lego for me in the first half it appears, which is good as I can then buy more used Lego off bricklink while exchange rates are favourable.

The proliferation of stickers. It seems very few town sets now include specialist printed parts, and stickers simply don't last in the same way. I'd like to see a return to printed parts like the 1x4 Auto Service Bricks from 6670 which still look like new. One other thing that changed Lego forever is the Internet. I believe one of the factors Lego did not expect in the late nineties and early two-thousands was the advent of eBay, Bricklink and the likes. The internet provided a way to get older Lego easily and rapidly. A far cry from yard-sales and classified advertisements. In the early years, I remember paying more for freight than Lego purchased online, and spent nothing on new Lego for several years. Lego has upped it's game and has convinced most of us to buy new sets...

Eurobricks Collectable LEGO Minifigures Series 2 Building Contest
Grrr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The rules for Category B make it clear that an original, unadultered Series 1 minifig must be used. Is there any requirement to use that fig's accessories, and, for that matter, can a Series 1 minifig appear with different accessories (obviously excluding new accessories introduced in Series 2). -
I think the tall facade is giving this building the impression of being bigger than it is. Perhaps you could brand it as a Harris and Scarfe or so (I'm sure New Mannum could use another iconic SA brand). I'd be tempted to add a manequin or two to the window display. Probably a normal person with a plain white head and hands.

Both the fire station and helicopter were out with the first wave (in fact, the first two 2010 sets I saw in January).
-
I don't think it need be an issue; though; there are plenty of speculators stoking up. Two examples from the trains theme: 10001 didn't really affect the pricing of 4558 in the long term; it's still a high-value Lego set; and 10027 commands a price many times it's original retail price even though it was only released seven years ago. Star Wars is another example of extremes. I don't think you can go too far amiss with sets that are not aimed specifically at children, as most afols don't have a need to sell parts of their collection; and thus; there will be relatively little in the way of used 10210's available for many years. Though; I do feel it's all gambling. To be honest; I would expect sets like 6289 to depriciate in the long term; as once the current pool of afol have this set; there won't be so much demand for it. Looking at the younger posters on this forum; I can see many have little interest in 80's lego; in much the same way that I have little interest in trains with blue track.
-
Interesting; the must have changed them at some point. Mine has the same stickers as 6624; which even appear on the front of the instructions:
-
One of my favourite sets. I own about six of these. Great review; though you aren't quite correct on the stickers - they also appear in set 6361 for example.

What is the hardest Lego set you have ever built?
Grrr replied to SharkMan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
6237. For some reason Lego decided not to include instructions!: -
Did you not get a catelog from the Lego club a few months ago? Where did you get the catelog incidentally. I could use a second one. I left my first one on the far side of the Lego room .
