Great builds and story, my friend! Are deGothia and Lena Historica's first celebrity couple? hehe -
Design a 5th Guild Challenge
Jason Cicchini replied to Sirens-of-Titan's topic in Guilds of Historica
Tolimar The Kingdom on the Cliffs Guild Name: Tolimar (Tall-ih-marr) Guild Location: Four days travel by sea South West of the Avalonian/Kaliphlin coastline. Population: 10-11,000 Capital: Venarra, "the Great Valley" Leader: Queen Gulya Brizbinn pictured: Queen Gulya Brizbinn Races: Men (75%) Dwarves (20%) Trolls (4%) Cave Spiders (.05%) Coast Birds (.05%) Fish (Various Breeds, .9%) pictured: Queen Brizbinn, Lord Seldyz Vala, Sir Grynn Herrth, A typical female villager, Hoyle, and Brikk Armed Forces: Royal Tolimaran Army picured: A member of the Royal Tolimaran Army mounted on a "calmed" Cave Spider Major Exports: Cut Stone/Stonework/Masonry (60%) Lumber/Woodwork (20%) Precious Gems (10%) Cave Spider Goods (5%) Coastal Bird Goods (5%) Guild Standard: Gold and White pictured: A Guild Standard atop a civilian home. Unique Characteristics: pictured: A typical Tolimaran home, where a Cave Spider Tamer comes home to his wife. Mountainous landscapes, scarce grazing grounds, and severe weather patterns have forced the Tolimarans to, over their long history, find a home inside the monolithic peaks that cover the island nation. Small, sturdy structures sit snugly on the mountain tops, and act as guarded entrances to the much larger dwellings below, burrowed into the center of the rocks. These man-made caverns and pathways often interconnect between residencies and major points of interest. Due to the largely catastrophic elements which sweep throughout the continent, travel proves much less treacherous through the mountain paths, creating large cultural hubs where they meet. Full information can be found in the topic here. -

Society: The Tolimarans are rugged, resourceful, and respectful. As with the other 4 Guilds of Historica, adapting to their surroundings has truly formed their demeanor and culture. The ruling class, known as "The Higher Ones," consists of the Guild Leader, Queen Gulya Brizbinn, and her cabinet of advisors: Chief of Commerce - Lord Seldyz Vala Captain of the Guard- Sir Grynn Herrth Head Foreman of Excavation- Hoyle, Son of Doyle Troll Liason- Brikk, Son of Troll King Konkrete A tenuous alliance exists between the races, based on mutual need. This, however, does not exclude old hatreds from still existing. The long standing rivalry between Dwarves and Trolls has forced the hand of Men often. Dwarves provide invaluable stonework and gem detection skills, while the Trolls have gifted Men with the ability to "tame" the Cave Spiders, the only beast of burden on the continent. Thus, political inter-weavings have painted a checkered picture of Tolimar, and its people. Relation to Historica: Tolimar's notable absence from the rest of the world's history dates back to the days of the Ancient Druid Tribes. It was believed by many wizened scholars that the remote island of Tolimar contained a powerful and terrible artifact, and for the protection of all Historica it was concealed using high level Invisibility and Weather spells. When the Druids passed from this world, the spells of Concealment were broken, but the weather patterns were stuck in an endless cycle. They continue in the same manner to this day, making travel between the island and the Mainland next to impossible without powerful magic. The rumored artifact in Tolimar has yet to be unearthed.

Now, see, THIS is the kind of re-imagining we all could use more of! Of all Castle sub-themes, Forestmen have been sorely underused. I vote TLG bring back the sub-theme, and make you head designer. I'd buy multiples of every set!

Excellent as always, dG! I'm assuming this wedding will be more expensive than a Kardashian's? Are you planning on building all of the city, or just a few select bits? Either way, it's already an impressive build!
-
For your first build for Avalonia, this is quite impressive! I love your corn, simple yet original. Overall, a very charming scene. Good job, and keep it up!
-
Wow, Z! My jaw drops open every time I see one of your builds! Technique question (Hah! See what I did there? ) : How are the details like the window, roof, and corner bits attached/secured to the technic pieces? I'm assuming a half technic pin/half stud configuration, but if so, is it very secure?

Avalonia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Jason Cicchini replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Aw, snap! Megabloks just got real up in here! Welcome, Gilence, and Bricktooth, to the best Guild in Historica! There's still plenty of land left to claim, Gilence, so head on over to the Avalonia Borders Map Thread to stake your claim and be added to the official map. -
Darwynia's Entry: Symilla Tenbris, pictured here with her steed Brimstone Name: Symilla Tenbris Age: A Lady never reveals her true age, let's just say "in her early thirties." History: Symilla is the overseer of Atrynus, a town on the outskirts of the Darwynian border with Woodward, where most newly recruited soldiers for the royal army are sent to train at a prestigious but secretive Academy. She herself has been granted a detachment of 200 men, to patrol and secure the Northern border and its assets. Known for being a fierce warrior, she is always the first to lead the charge in battle, and the last to suffer any wounds. Symilla is often referred to as "the Battle Queen" by her men, after a particularly bloody battle against a large band of mercenaries attempting to invade Artynus. It is rumored she personally beheaded 50 men, at which point her army fell back and watched in astonishment. She is as yet unmarried, but often courted by Royals and Dignitaries from all over Avalonia. She is rumored to be quoted as saying none have been "man enough" for her yet.

I instantly knew this was Bosch inspired! My eyes also bugged out of my head when I first saw this. Way to do something SO different from everyone else it kind of has its own category. In a community of people trying to bring more "High Art" into what is basically an emerging medium, you are one of very few whom can successfully pull it off. Great job, and good luck!
-
Despite being Drow scum, you always knock my socks off with every build! Seriously, though, whenever you post a build I spend a good half hour poring over the pictures, looing for all the little details and techniques you employ so deftly and manage to cram into such a small space. The curving water is just...mystifying. There must be hundreds of dollars worth of parts in those areas alone! I myself am never a fan of using the big 3 primary colors (Red, Blue, Yellow) in fortresses, but all of yours are completely believable, and this one is no exception! Great work, and good luck!
-
The terror and destruction in this scene are instantly recognizable. Plus, the fact you did this in such little time is mind blowing. Good luck!
-
The power function in this really put this build over the top. You elemental was already impressive and terrifying without being able to spin around, and now he can! I'm loving the cow swept up in the winds! Great work. Good luck!
-
So many things I like about this build! The cliff face, the tower design, the action. My only crit would be the Elemental gets a bit muddled when viewing from the back, but still a great design! Good luck!

Elemental suprise in Ghuba-ya Biashara
Jason Cicchini replied to Maxim I's topic in Guilds of Historica
Your Elemental scares the heck outta me! -
Lord Kelperth is very distressed over hearing of the destruction of Caltar. The messenger apparently arrived too late to the Great Keep and a detachment could not be sent out to help in time. (BTW, thanks for the shout out!) The battle damage details are done very well without sacrificing structural integrity, and the fig placement is really great! Plus, the various Micro scenes give a great sense of perspective. Are the beacons a concept you've been thinking of for a while? It seems too well thought out to be a brand new concept, but if so: spectacular is all I can think to say. Good luck!
-
Cara, this really isn't fair. I'm going to spend every last challenge now thinking how I'll have to beat something that you'll come up with! I have never EVER seen such awesomeness in a Micro scene!!!!! The castle is stunning, the city itself actually reminds me of an area in Philadelphia right by the Deleware River, where all the houses are perched on a set of hillsides, looking like a swift wind would knock them right off. The way it all works with the foreground, and the water effect, and your Elemental...Yikes! This is the one to beat! Good luck!
-
I hate to sound like a corporate recruiter, but way to think outside the box! Your clever concept and design for your Elemental is perhaps my favorite part. And, of course, your mastery of cheese slopes is really becoming your signature touch! Oh, and I'm totally stealing the olive tree design. Good luck!
-
I've always had difficulty with micro scenes. Most builds I see are very clever in their parts usage and layout, but every time I attempt it I have difficulty with scale and attempting to do something new and different. This build achieves all of that! I can just see the huge Tsunami wave with a yawning mouth crashing over the sea wall. Great job! Good luck!
-
The design for the Elemental should really be adopted by TLG, as usually their brick built creatures look a bit blocky. This has the visual appeal of a solid figure, like the Cave Troll or similar, without being a big hunk of immobile plastic. Great work on the playability as well! Good Luck!

A very interesting take on Wind Elementals. I'm loving the energy effect as well. Good luck!

Water Elemental Attack on a Mitgardian Outpost
Jason Cicchini replied to Torgar's topic in Guilds of Historica
This is AMAZING! There's just too many things I like about it to say anything other than that! Good luck! -
For something you don't consider your best work, you still use a lot of cool details (like the legs for teeth, to name one.) I think the Elemental is creepy looking, in a very good way! And the perspective doesn't require any thought to see. Great job!
-
Dude, this is intense! The vine work and the variety of elementals is making my eyes spin! And, the Quinn's body detail is very twisted but a great touch. I love when builders are creative with continuity. Good luck! I think you're definitely one of the top contenders.
