  1. Dear Doktor Franckenstein, it has been a pleasure working with you. Our discussions have been fruitful and I enjoyed your hospitality, for which I thank you. Frightening as you may seem, our thirst for knowledge unites us. But I have to warn you again, do not underestimate the power of the molten sand! Do not forget your glass in the sun, do not sell our knowledge to the undeserving. Do not seek wealth - seek truth! I am looking forward to collaborate with you again in the future. Yours faithfully, Abū Alī al-Ḥusayn ibn Abd Allāh ibn Sīnā
  2. I like beer better than champagne . J4ke, your tower turned out very nice. For me it has a very typical cartoon look you would find in computer games for example. The curves and roundness make your tower special, I like this. Kaliphlin is a special guild full of wonders. Does it transform into a space rocket? Yakob the Red - Knight of Kaliphlin: protect our lands!
  3. 8) Zoo Keeper Entry (Build by TinyPiesRUs) - 1 point 22) Pharaoh Queen Entry (Build by Dan Church) - 1 point 25) Cavewoman Entry (Build by Darkblane) - 1 point
  4. The Mist scene - Skateboarder and Woodcutter Entry (Build by Yatkuu) - 1 point Godzilla vs. King Kong - Gorilla and Godzilla Entry (Build by lisqr) - 1 point White Fang scene - Zombie and Eskimo Entry (Build by Cecilie) - 1 point
  5. Thank you all for the nice comments! You are really a polite bunch. It's the head of the blacksmith in set 6918 (bricklink). This is a very good point, thank you. Initially, the telescope was much smaller but I couldn't get enough . I like the idea of a wooden support structure, which could be partially attached to the side of the tower. I will think about it next week... I am looking forward to your magnetic observation post! Tremendousness from the East, I do not understand your first cryptic lines. Regarding the spaceships: Some say you can only fear what you can imagine. Let me tell you, this doesn't mean your are protected by ignorance. Abū Alī, who is seeking for truth.
  6. Good fortification . It's okay that the tower is small because the plains of the desert allow you to see far nevertheless. I would not dare to come close in hostile attitude. Luckily we are Guild fellows. Personally, I would add something to at least some of the four holes in the baseplate. A mixture of tan 2x2 plates, tiles, slopes or a flag holder... For Kaliphlin, Abu Ali
  7. Thanks for the comments! I like to enlighten my students by asking back: Would not be the tower unneccesary because I could stand on the roof of the stable? ... probably some dotty dialect... What looks like white bricks are actually part of my personal belongings that I can't do without on my long travels. I must confess, they look like bricks. For clarification, my departure in the near future will look something like this: (I won't tell if there are bricks in the package though)
  8. Avalonia is a beautiful country I wish to visit sometime. Although it seems a little bit wet and cold - all this greenery... I especially like the last pic. If you want to enhance tourism this is the leaflet you have to set in stone (you still work with hammer and chisel in the north-west?). Very nicely done, it's good to see that you dedicated your moccing skills to Avalonia .
  9. Dear fellows, greetings from Burj Sina. I watch out for Kaliphlin. Abu Ali
  10. Times are changing in Historia. I am Abū Alī al-Ḥusayn ibn Abd Allāh ibn Sīnā, a truth-seeker of the Kaliphlin Guild. Deeply disturbed by news of disorder I went in retreat to Burj Sina where I contemplate by watching the stars. I am looking for answers. Burj Sina is located deep in the desert, unknown to most - almost forgotten. Few have seen it but much has been seen. This tower belonged to my familiy for generations. Its secret lies on earth but it reveals the heavens. Even though the stars are telling, I cannot see the future. But pointed to the horizon my telescope can see deep into the realms of Nocturnus, Avalonia, and even Mitgardia. Where are you heading? Enemies, don't try funny stuff, the entrance is guarded! Watching the stars can be hard work. Minifig sight (on foot):
  11. I actually like the idea of some internal political tension in our guild. Maybe we are in the midst of a cultural upheaval or so. And for me as a truth seeker: I can't do everything on my own. Sure, I can use the students but sometimes they just don't have enough muscles for some tasks... I would be pleased if you would at least provide some black market options... Dextrus Flagg, don't be offended by my wishes. Even if I would have some (illegal?) slaves, I'd treat them very well. They are far better off than other poor people. It's not like we have a health care system in Kaliphlin... right? So, Wahil Musca, maybe you can take on some 'polite hostility' as SI-mocs said? Abu Ali
  12. Deep in the desert, unknown to most, there is a tower that has belonged to my family for generations. I frequently visit it because there I can study the stars and contemplate. This watch tower was used for defenses centuries ago. After my next visit I will send you a picture via Brickshelf (probably on Monday since camels are slow). Then you can judge whether this tower is strong enough to repel our enemies. Abū Alī al-Ḥusayn ibn Abd Allāh ibn Sīnā, a truth seeker.
  13. Luckily, only brave men inhabit Kaliphlin. Otherwise this taylor would go broke because no one dares to visit him... but our city guard does. This sends the right message to our enemies. Great construction, Dextrus! Abū Alī
  14. Abū Alī would be fine. If we want to call each other by our Kaliphlin Guild names it would be helpful if all could sign their posts. Because otherwise I only remember the usernames. Abū Alī
  15. At the dawning of chaos I deciced to present my services to you, Dextrus Flagg. I am Abū Alī al-Ḥusayn ibn Abd Allāh ibn Sīnā and I seek truth. May peace and prosperity be always in Historia.
  16. There are probably lots of sets to be recommended within your specifications. I can recommend two sets I have: 8052 Container Truck and 5893 Offroad Power. The truck from the Technic line has a motor and also lots of grey studless beams, which I find very useful for mocs in various themes. The unloading/loading of the container works very well and is fun. The Offroad Power set gives you a large amount and great variety of pieces, e.g. lots of blue. With the pieces you can build a lot. For me a space station comes to mind. The steering could be better but it works. The suspension is nice and you can play with the carriage.
  17. Giving credit is decent and nice. One can show respect and thankfullness to the builders that one took inspiration from. So I encourage people to give credit. On the other hand, I find demanding credit for a Lego design is a bit problematic. To me Lego is pure fun that I do in my freetime. This doesn't really fit with demanding credit. It sounds so buisness-like. But I understand the anger when someone else brags with your invention you are proud of yourself. At least I understand if the bragging is about your specific invention and not about a moc including your invention as an accessory. But remember, how many painters have copied Picasso? On a related note: It is not so easy to give proper credit. I, for example, have read some 'how-to' articles on classic-castle.com, eg. DNLs and Slyowls article on building a landscape. Now when I build a landscape I somehow always remember Slyowls serious piece of advice to avoid "plate differential of more than one plate high for grass". Nevertheless, when I present my landscape on Eurobricks I would not give credit to Slyowl. I would feel embarressed and the credit list would be very long. It becomes even more complicated when I don't remember or never knew who the inventor of a technique is. For example, I saw roofs with 1x1 round bricks on Eurobricks but I don't know where anymore. This does not mean I can never build such roofs and show them on Eurobricks. Perhaps only very new designs should be credited. Once the designs become common knowledge the roots are too hard to track. I honestly do not want to research the credit list for my mocs.
  18. There is a topic started by DLuders in the Technic forum here with an embedded video. This is great stuff.
  19. 1 point for Dunjohn 1 point for Fatyankee 1 point for lisqr
  20. 1 point for LegoLyons 1 point for lisqr 1 point for Fatyankee Aargh! I need more points to distribute! (so many good entries )
  21. 2 points for Inconspicuous 1 point for Mr palmtree Thanks for all the entries!
  22. Very nice! I especially like the clever building technique of the ceiling with the chandelier.
  23. Congratulations exotrator! I think it was great. And honestly, I hoped that I would not have to wait "a couple of years" for the next community build. So it's definitely worth doing again. (I don't think a price is necessary. What's important is the deadline so that people are encouraged to put their mocs online.) Thank you for organizing!
  24. I read on imperiumdersteine.de that someones has asked a Lego store staff. They said the sets will be at least (I don't know if only) available in Lego stores from June 2010 on. For me that's good news!
  25. I also vote for #19 Cannon Foundry. The build is so clean and the pictures are superb.
