  1. What a wonderful build! Thank you for posting it. Much has been said already, I also like the fountain, the jumper wall of the tavern (I have not seen it before), and the warm colorful overall view of your harbor. It must be good to be a harbormaster... having your private access to the tavern. My personal favorite house is on the left, where the poor (because they grow apples in their gardens?) people live. It looks simple but its colors and angles and the amount of detail seems just perfect to me.
  2. Very nice castle! I have a faible for predominantly white castles and I really like the grey patches. And I find it very cool that you the castle can be opened by hinges. Two mini-suggestions: 1) I really liked your teaser photo you also put in the thread for the archery tournament. For example, there one could better see the nice windows. The pictures you show here are all from an overview perspective... 2) In the open castle (last picture), in my opinion there should be a little bit more space in the rooms on the right hand side to increase playability (2 studs deep does not allow much) All in all very good! Keep on going (although you chose the wrong guild... )
  3. Thanks you for the comments! Actually, I do not really come up with them... Now I have to blow my cover... Those names, Al‐Jūzjānī und Ibn Sīnā are real, you can look them up in Wikipedia. Abū Alī (Ibn Sīnā) is also known as Avicenna in the western world. (Yes, I am famous .) Yes, I had to scold my former pupil. He is just too keen to show off his skills in making wooden legs...
  4. So, these Avalonians have a better score than us... Hello Arom Alled, nice to have you with us. It's good to know reinforcements are on to way to challenge the tree-huggers for the first place! Mikel Kalores, these are promising projects. I particularly like the majestic look of the castle, the color scheme is exclusive. I am not sure about the red flags though. I like the left side better (but with windows). Your second project, search for the crystal, looks very ambitious. The egg shells are a very clever and frightening idea. If you build the round stone wall too high it will be hard to take decent photos. May be you can think about building only half the circle (this would also not be as brick consuming as the full circle). Many of us have already stated that they will have problems completing challenge 3 in time. I am also counting the weekends till the deadline... and it doesn't look too good. Well, maybe Kaliphlin doesn't have to be first place. After all, we know how to spend a good time and there are more important things in our culture...
  5. Dear guild fellows, In case you do feel a little sick, I can recommend the service of Abū ʿUbayd ʿAbd al‐Wāḥid ibn Muḥammad al‐Jūzjānī, a former pupil of mine, who now runs a small hospital in the desert. Of course, there will be a considerable discount for guild fellows. See the topic for more pictures... and some facts about the poor state of health of the other guilds... Abū Alī
  6. These are peaceful times for Historica. Nevertheless, there are still little aches and pains. My former pupil Abū ʿUbayd ʿAbd al‐Wāḥid ibn Muḥammad al‐Jūzjānī runs a small hospital in the desert to take care of your diseases. Every now and then I visit Abū ʿUbayd and advice him. He should, for example, water the tree a little more. Otherwise customers may not think highly of his healing powers. In the hall of the ill you see an Avalonian soldier who broke his leg while trying to ride an ostrich. The Mitgardian dwarf has lice in his beard. Nothing a well equipped physician cannot heal! Right now, a poor drow is brought to the hospital. He dreamed of power and didn't watch his step. He fell over and now his knees are hurting. But don't worry, in a week he will feel well again and then he can continue to walk our lands and imagine things... Best regards, Abū Alī
  7. Very nice build! I especially like the first picture from the perspective of the spy. You captured the majestic look of Albion very well. If this is a 'little moc' how big will be a big one? By the way, I think, the spy will make it, Avalonians are day-dreamers and right now the guard is looking at flowers...
  8. Lord Damaximus, impressive! The bigger the wall the better! This must have been a fun build . I like the international flair inside your town . Traders like security, I suppose. Soon I will come to visit Mpya Stedor, which looks like it will become a major metropolis in Historica. Abū Alī
  9. SkaForHire: I am sorry to hear that you have to move. I know that this can be annoying. I hope that you find a new place fast and without problems. It's good that you can at least continue to post because we need your ideas . DaMaximus: I like your pyjama! At first, when I saw the pictures, I thought the genius would be the teddy you are holding . I'm looking forward to your entry.
  10. Master builder of Kaliphlin, the horse with all the muscles in motion is super! My wife saw your Moc and now I have to build something with water too. The problem? You did a very good job.
  11. Thank you very much, Dextrus, for your hospitality, the evening was wonderful! And now you even want to donate some archeological treasuries to me . I will study the mummies carefully. And then probably bury them again? And to all listeners, thank you for listening. I hope you will spread the Myth of Erezhi. And to all story tellers, thanks a lotto you as well, I thoroughly enjoyed this evening full of wonders! Yours, Abū Alī
  12. I respect the drow although I find them a bit single-minded (power, power, power ...). And the longer I looked at your Moc the more I marveled at it because there are so many fantastic details. But, these drow-power-fairy-tales do not really suit me as a Kaliphlin myth! Sorry, but to my knowledge, drow have never and will never be a part of Kaliphlin!
  13. Thank you all for the comments. I am glad you like the story history lessons of Kaliphlin! Master Cartographer of the Kaliphlin guild, I am actually quite relieved to hear that you are okay with the backstory. Before I posted the myth I used google to search the guild thread whether there is already a story... You guys are sometimes very active ... ... and a busy truth-seeker can't always keep up with you...
  14. Nice story and build. For example, I like the beast and also the simple set-up in the first picture with the mountains. (Although the sun seems to be on the wrong side? The darker side of the mountains could be in the shadow.) I also like the cruel turning point in the story. Two questions: What does the holy order do today? And will there be diplomatic tensions with Nocturnus when they find out that Kaliphlin sent a mad monk as an ambassador?
  15. Great to see some democracy in Historica! And very good campaigns of worthy candicates! I am very happy to see that most of the voters (at least at the moment) are from Kaliphlin. I am sure we will be able to have some favorable influence on taxation/trading/foreign politics. (Or let's just decide to make Mitgardia a snow resort of Kaliphlin!) Edit: Don't worry Mitgardians, I am just kidding. It's feels interesting to be a Mitgardian citizen today. I am really sweating in the sun...
  16. Dear friends of Kaliphlin, have you ever wondered why the Lone Mountain is such a popular postcard motive? I wrote a myth for our mini challenge and posted it in a separate thread: The Myth of Erezhi I hope it's okay that I invented a background story for the Lone Mountain. I couldn't find/remember whether somebody else had already done so... robuko: great myth and build! Si-Mocs: ingenious idea of tell kids a story and show thought bubbles of them! Mikel: very good idea to make a mini scale model to show the surroundings. Also, a scary story about spiders. I am sure the kids love to hear stories about catacombs full of spiders! Yours, Abū Alī
  17. Today I lecture about how the Siccus Badlands were created. In the beginning of time there was harmony. Sun and Moon lived happily together. They had seven children. But harmony did not last. Sun became excessive and could not restrain himself. He burnt the land and ate their children in sheer madness. So the desert came into being. Moon grieved deeply for the death of their children. Her tears dropped to the ground and formed small oases in the desert. From this day on Moon and Sun went different paths - their definite breakup formed night and day. How then did the people of Kaliphlin evolve? In all devastation, the youngest sister and the youngest brother did hide. The Great Camel Erezhi protected them in his hump. So two children of Sun and Moon survived. They became the ancestors of the people of Kaliphlin. Camels are hold holy today because they help to survive in the desert. The hump of the Great Camel Erezhi is nowadays known as the Lone Mountain Erezhi, you know it as a popular postcard motive. Tell this myth to your children, yours truth-seeking Abū Alī.
  18. Sorry, this is a bit off topic and has maybe been posted somewhere else. But it is so appropriate for re-vitalizing the SciFi forum, it definitely motivated me. This is what dreams are made of... Edit: I don't manage to embed a video, which is particularly embarrissing in the science (fiction) forum...
  19. My dear guild fellows, your problems are known to me and to other great poets as well! Be aware of the metaphysical dimension of Lego building! "Du siehst, wohin du siehst, nur Eitelkeit auf Erden. Was dieser heute baut, reißt jener morgen ein;" (Andreas Gryphius, 1637) in rough translation: You see, wherever you watch out, on earth vanity only. What someone builds today, the other one tears down tomorrow. Yours, Abu Ali PS: Great mini challenge. I have been thinking about mythology all day... edit: I'm not sure if I can make it though, I can only build on weekends and this weekend I will be away. Let's see, maybe another late entry...
  20. Dear fellow guild members, I apologize that I didn't talk to you for a long time. Our ways went a different path but I have not forgotten you! Sometimes I do not write but most of the times I do read. You did a great job, the Kaliphlin embassies are excellent. I also apologize that I didn't make the deadline for the embassy challenge. These Avalonians are nice and all but sometimes they just don't get it, especially not in time. See my struggles with them for yourself: Fountain of Wisdom Truthfully, Abū Alī
  21. I am a truth-seeker, I do not deny truth, so I know that my embassy comes to late for the competition. Nevertheless, have a look and learn! The embassy I built is located in a backyard somewhere in the midst of the great city of Albion. This is a story about the 'Fountain of Wisdom' with which I was travelling through the lands of Avalonia. The animals in my caravan were fully packed and had to carry a heavy burden. This is because I knew that the building materials in Avalonia were limited to stone and wood. How primitive! Although cold and wet, the land of Avalonia is beautiful. The people are welcoming and helpful. Their manners, however, are a bit rude. They like to fight and do not wash their hands before dinner. They have cosy homes and their leisure time is filled with drinking, eating, and burping. What else is there to life? Elementary calculus, reading comprehension, and writing skills are the foundation of civilization. This is the gift from the people of Kaliphlin in order to support international understanding: education. In the tent of education all pupils are welcome. Knights and servants, women and men, young and old ... but not all can appreciate the blessing of wisdom (as you see, sometimes I have to scold). Yours, Abū Alī al-Ḥusayn ibn Abd Allāh ibn Sīnā PS: The inhabitants of the household thank Rasputin Jone for the glass windows I brought with me. They really need our southern luxury since it becomes freezing in the nights!
  22. Is this the first complete town of any guild? Very nicely done! I like this (time-)version of Stoneroda even better than the first one. Although I pity the poor mini minifigures who have to carry a house. (good idea!)
  23. I very much like the detailed scene you have set up. Avalonia continues to grow. And I actually like the darker light in your first two pictures. This way the red flowers get a magical glow. I see a busy outpost in the early evening.
  24. Wahil Musca, your business ventures are paying off! I am happy you can afford such a beautiful tower to guard the sea and guide traveling ships. Very nicely done, the red sandstone from Qarkyr is marvelous material, which throughout the centuries my family has not managed to get hold of much. I especially like the door, I am tempted to include such a design in one of my architectural projects. Abū Alī
  25. Dear fellow guild members, I am glad to see so many pictures of our wonderful lands. You are doing a wonderful job. I have been away for some time. I was hiding in my study chamber in order to write some chapters in my Book of Kaliphlin Master Cartographer Tafik Regex Marmota, your knowledge of the geography of the southern lands is astonishing! Would you mind if I copy some parts into my book? Abū Alī
