  1. FYI, Dol Guldur Ambush is now on sale for $11.98 on the US site. It is currently out of stock with a 12 February ship date. It looks like this will be gone soon, so army builders and MOC enthusiasts take note.
  2. This is the danger of storing a set for a long time and not opening it, especially if the set retires. You have no idea if you have anything unless you open the box and inventory the parts. If the set is retired, they might not be able to replace the missing part if it is unique or rare, and that could get costly on Bricklink.
  3. Bachamn, Very nice photo with all of the company in there. I have all mine crammed into Bag End. My only gripe about LM is the price, but indeed it is a nicely designed set with a lot of good features, colors, and the best dragon in Lego form.
  4. T-16 should be reaching us soon. Not a really big build, but it is OT and has a sandman (what we called in in 1977).
  5. If a full glowing Captain Cutler were made, I would nominate if for minifig of the year. Space Kook is entirely possible. The helmet could be done the same way they did Buzz Lightyear. If his "ship" was to be included, kids would probably really enjoy building it. Scooby Doo really is the perfect theme to me. It appeals to people of all ages for different reasons. People like me will draw on nostalgia and the classic look. It will make our town setups quirky and more interesting. Kids will enjoy the play features and the colorful variety of parts offered here. So far, between the Mystery Machine and the Mystery Mansion, I think the designers have nailed the essence of Scooby Doo.
  6. Take me out to the ball game! This is very nice, and you did a great job using limited space to add a lot of detail and fun features.
  7. I can see this appealing to some people and even perhaps my boys. As for me personally, my wallet will not take a hit from this at all. I would not buy them even if they were half the price. The new Scooby Doo sets will provide me with some "monsters".
  8. Lego might also consider doing a mine set with the Miner-49er. They could do a double mine cart that actually moves along some track to enact a chase and trap scene.
  9. I hope the rumored flashback scenes in Episode VII with Vader will have lots of OT Stormtroopers in it so perhaps Lego can produce more of them in a set. Since they will not be appearing in the Final Duel set, the only way to get them in the foreseeable future would be to purchase Slave I or an ISD or pay a lot of money on Bricklink because they will no doubt be scarce. Having Royal Guards in the Final Duel makes sense, yet at the same time, it makes the DS battle pack more puzzling. Who needs more than just a couple of them? The only scene where I see more than two of them is the Emperor's arrival on the Death Star in ROTJ. If you want to recreate that scene, by summer you will have almost everything you need. You will have Vader, Emperor, Guards, and Tydirium (which can double as a regular shuttle). Now you just have to find a way to get a bunch of OT stormies.
  10. She could have a double sided head to feature her without glasses if one chooses to do so. We probably will not know until later on unless someone just happened to ask that exact question at one of the Toy Fairs. The mansion looks interesting. Some rare purple parts are there, and I like the look of the Black Knight and Velma especially. I think having different facial expressions on Scooby was a great idea too. After close inspection of the Mystery Machine photos, it does appear that there is at least one sticker that has to be attached to multiple parts. There is a hinged section, and perhaps that is really two stickers on either side of the hinge. Even if so, it appears that the stickers overlap with a blue 1x2x2 part and other unknown part(s) behind it. Assuming the tree is a sticker, it looks like we are getting about 15-17 stickers in the set. The hubcaps and frontcap are probably printed. Despite the stickers, it looks like a day 1 purchase.
  11. The figures look good, and the Mystery Machine set looks like the Classic form to me. A lot of stickers were expected, but I am hoping that the big sticker that says Mystery Machine is only on one part and not the dreaded STAMP (stickers across mulitple pieces). It is hard to tell.
  12. It would seem like a lighthouse would have some sort of seagoing villian associated with it instead of a swamp creature. However, it seems hard to believe someone could mistake a diving suit for a swamp creature. Another random thought--I wonder if they will make a minifig accessory mold for a pair of glasses? The gag with Velma losing her glasses could come into play. Perhaps a double sided face, one with glasses, and one without? Then you have the pair of glasses lost somewhere in the mansion.
  13. Scrappy---the original Jar Jar Binks. When the term "jump the shark" first came out, he was a frequent topic of discussions regarding Scooby Doo in relation to that term. Even the first movie made fun of him by casting him as the bad guy. If they ever did make a set or a mold for him, it should not be significant. Just imagine a really small mold with a big head. I think this wave will be successful, in large part due to the new minifigs and the Mystery Machine. Once we have them, I do not know what an additional wave could bring to the table. Sure, you would have new bad guys, but once you have the gang and the van, would you not have the most desired elements of the franchise already?
  14. Just the price of the bricks and shipping propel a lot of MOCs into the expensive category. Then, there is the time it took to design it and build it. I just completed a MOC that has more than 9000 bricks from Bricklink, Lego store PAB, and online PAB. It took a year and two months to get it this far. If someone wanted to buy it, it would have to be in the four figure range just to get me to even consider.
  15. Looks like I will be buying all of the sets. The lighthouse really sounds interesting. If you collect all sets, it appears you will have plenty of spare Scooby Doo and Shaggy figs. This could be a very successful theme since it will appeal to multiple generations. Sure, it is a silly show, but it is fun.
  16. "Just be glad they finally made it" comment coming in 3,2,1,........
  17. The report from the London Toy Fair indicates that one of the Friends sets will include a grand piano in a lobby. This does not seem to bode well for a piano in the Ideas project. Perhaps we really will see a big set finally pass review. I really hope the museum has a chance.
  18. LDD is a highly useful tool. Be aware that it will not indicate how well a model will hold together. As for gathering your bricks, be sure to check out Bricklink. Often the prices are lower than Lego Pick a Brick, and it shows you which shops have the parts you are looking for. You can create a wanted list to keep track of what you need and where you can buy them. Do you presently have any pieces? If so, you can perhaps use some to test certain aspects of your designs.
  19. That is the trouble with the London Toy Fair. The inability to take photos causes us all to rely on verbal and written descriptions of what the invited guests saw. Someone who is not completely familiar with all of the characters could give a less than accurate description. Also, they might not remember everything. So far, no surprises with the two OT sets, but the real questions remain unanswered. Who else is in Tyderium? Who do we get in the Final Duel besides the obvious minifigs?
  20. If indeed the sets have at least the classic appearance, I am in. Honestly, I was not expecting the Mystery Machine to hold the entire gang. At $30, it should be on scale with the Lego Movie vehicles that were the 2 in 1 sets. It is sort of like Ecto 1, where you cannot fit every ghostbuster in there at one time. I too wonder which character is exclusive to the Haunted House. We know it is not Scooby, since there are two molds of him. Hopefully, someone very familiar with the theme and who was at the London Toy Fair can expound on this. Could you imagine a minifigure with a completely glow in the dark diving suit? That would certainly stand out--would love to see it.
  21. I would probably greatly expand Pick a Brick and include parts that are rare only because they were not produced much in that color. Yes, sand green, I am looking at you. Lego fosters creativity, and having the full palette of color available for those who wish to design their own sets would greatly benefit them. Bricklink sellers would hate me, but MOC artists would like it.
  22. I thumbed up the review as well. Basically, if you have any sort of criticism for the product, you are going to get thumbed down on the site. I think the review definitely gives some insight into the product, especially when compared to other modulars. It is far more informing than one liners such as "Best Modular Ever!","Awesome set!", and "My favorite".
  23. Few would want to pay full price for the Lonely Mountain, but I bought it back in October for double VIP points figuring that it might be harder to get during the holidays if the movie was successful. I only ever saw the set in Toys R Us and the Lego Store. $130 is overpriced, yet most of us would hate to be without a Smaug or the iconic location of Erebor. Since it is not in large quantities anywhere I know of, the recommendation would be to not expect it to go on sale and buy it when you can if you desire to have the set.
  24. So if I wear gloves when handling Lego and keep my wife who wears perfume away from it, then I should be OK? My biggest concern with cracked parts is that if Lego eventually discontinues a particular part or changes a color, then a replacement will be unavailable or very expensive on Bricklink to try and obtain.
  25. Remember Blue Snaggletooth? I guess the cycle repeats itself sometimes.
