Heroica RPG - Quest #159: An Unexpected Return
The Legonater replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
We've got him on the ropes. Let's take this faker down. Bellanotte, keep that song going. Dyric bends back down to the crossbow, and fires another volley from the front. -

Bellanote, keep up the chant! Give me cover, I'm going for Chesterine. Dyric ducks low and gives a Phoenix Essence to Chesterine in the front row. -

Satisfied with the hit, Dyric kneels back down to pick up the crossbow. He rolls to the front row, focusing everything he has at the 'Doomsayer.' Keep going, Bellanotte! You're doing great! OoC: No colour because mobile, but remember that the Crossbow does Slowed when focused on one enemy. -

And I'll, uh, I'll shoot him. Unless you want to keep making our own luck. Dyric waves his Unlucky Horseshoe. Bellanotte! He yells when the Minstrel gets up. Get a Lucky Chant going, we're going to need it. Standing up from under the weight of the crossbow, Rone flips the horseshoe in his hand and hurls it at the 'Doomsayer' from the back row. -

Bellanotte, you know the drill! Hasten us up! I repeat my attack. -

Atramor, should Bellanote be on hastening duty again? Dyric drops to one knee, firing his crossbow at the Doomsayer from the back row. -

You're one to talk. You've been exposed, 'Doomsayer.' Step away from the crypt and we can talk about this like civilized folks. -

Hel. Dyric looks around the room, trying to find any signs of change or struggle, and to see if there were any trails he could track . -

Rone was admittedly disheartened by the hesitance, but gave an affirming nod anyways. If that's how it shall be. One final ride, brother. The panic of the gnome breaks Dyric's moody disposition, bringing a smirk to the assassin's face. Yes, we should get going, and soon. Time is of the essence. Are we all good to go? Oh dear, we've already given it a name. -

I mean they're dead, so probably not. But if you come with us to the Dragon House and help us out, that's a solid amount of quality time with your favourite gnome. Maybe the two of you can set up coffee for after this whole thing blows over. If you don't come with, though, we go to the house and back and you and Matthias barely get a conversation. Rone gives a sly glance to Matthias, hoping the shy gnome would play along. -

Rone barely keeps his impatience hidden. I suppo- actually, Chesterine. Arthur said you have a similar set of skills, would you be willing to come with us? -

We didn't want to risk harming the Golden Dragon's remains. She's still down there, but the path is clear. -

The tomb was sealed with an intricate lock. There were no signs of tampering. For that matter, getting direct confirmation was part of our motivation for reviving her. Indeed? ...the request stands. If you can broker a conversation, we should be able to get any of the answers we need. -

Excuse Athior, it wasn't one of the veterans, it was one of the Founders. We found the tomb and corpse of the Golden Dragon herself. These men and women traipsing around the city now are fakers, and we believe having the actual Golden Dragon at our side will be a vital tool to bring Heroica, and Eubric, back to order. -

Dyric gives a wink to Atramor before receiving his cup of tea, carefully mixing in a spoonful of sugar. It's lucky that the two of you have the talents we need, then. Althior, would you like to introduce our business, or should I? -

Dyric Rone, the assassin says in greeting, giving a formal but friendly nod to the Ziegfrieds. Tea would be fantastic, thank you. It would be good to drink something not brewed in a tavern or a market for once. -

Well, the news is good. That is, my news is good, you all look a little worse for wear. Most of the Ziegfrieds have shipped off, but there are a few still around with the talents we need. Arthur's gone up to get them, which brings me to point two. When everything fell, he called in the big guns. The Lions sent in a squadron of Lion Knights, but they got locked up in the Embassy by the pseudo-Veterans. I think our next step after we raise the Golden Dragon should be busting them out, we could use the manpower. -

Dyric follows the former Hero inside, keeping an eye out for Bellanotte as he walked. Stepping into the indicated room, he takes a seat. As Arthur deals with his actual brother, Dyric turns to the young Shadeaux. What do you make of all this, Bellanotte? The Ziegfrieds, I mean. The assassin is startled by the clatter but relieved to see his friends piling out. How was the trip? -

Then come with us. You can't do anything locked in here. We could use you, brother, and it sure sounds like you could use us. The Embassy, huh? Interesting. If they're still in one piece, that doesn't sound like a bad detour. We could use all the hands we can get. Speaking of which, can you take me to Chesterine and Mabel? I, uh, wouldn't mind having a guide if I'm going to be wandering the halls of this place. Dyric watches passively as the two mages converse, not sure how to deal with Noel by himself. -

Dyric clenches his jaw, trying in desperation to keep himself and his emotions in check. He can't stop the hollowness in his voice, however, which echoes in his every word. Sorrow's gone, Arthur. A-and as for Karie, she- she decided to stick around and do something about all of this mess. She decided that it was better to restore Heroica than abandon it. And for what it's worth, when the time came, so did I. She's off with a group now hitting up her old Wolfgang contacts, it's all-hands-on-deck for this one. Arthur, you got to give me something here. With the power of a necromancer, we have a chance of setting right all this business. The Ziegfrieds must be able to do something. -

Dyric looks in abject pity at his very old friend. What had happened to him? There were others who came with me. Atramor, Matthias, Hoke, Althior. They all vanished when they crossed that threshold, are they safe? Nothing better be happening to them. After that, we need a necromancer. A powerful one. -

Surprise washes over Dyric as he falls back, catching himself on the frame of the doorway. He might as well have seen a ghost. Arthur? But- I never- I thought you'd left. I thought I would never see you again. Where have you been? -

Magic. Just as I suspected, they've been teleported. The question is where, and are they together? I reckon it's a defense measure, which could mean they're all taken together, or they may be scattered somewhere. I'm not interested in risking the choice. I wish Althior were still here to investigate this, magic isn't really my forte. Rone looks over the door, trying to judge the next step. Yeah, knocking might be the best step. Here goes nothing. Dyric gives a hefty knock on the door without crossing the threshold, assuming such a thing is possible? Otherwise, he knocks on the wall, or yells or something. -

Sorry for the inactivity. Papers season. Rone scarcely had time to take in the familiar sights of Triad Park. Probably for the best - time was short. He couldn't stop to reminisce on every tiny detail. Still, the memories of his first meeting with Guts echoed fondly in the back of his mind. Lingering at the back of the group, Dyric can only watch as his friends disappear one by one in front of him. Not the worst plan. Here, let me try something first. Rone pulls back on his Mockthrill Longbow, aiming to fire a bolt just beyond the threshold. He releases and feels the twang of the bow in his hands. -

Dyric retrieves as many arrows as he can muster, wiping the draconic blood off of them. A shame to kill such majestic creatures. Satisfied with his collection, the assassin leaps onto the back of Torc. So, to Ziegfrieds'?
