This is tragic news. Even though I didn't know him personally, his work and dedication to Classic-Pirates was inspiring. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Thanks for the great review Brickster! A truly nostalgic one, as others have noticed before me... I am very disappointed I wasn't able to get this set at the time of its release but, in my case the end of the ninja theme was the beginning of my Dark ages... Nevertheless, reviews like this one always make me smile and keep my hopes, of one day getting this set, up!

I think there is a bad comparison here... A MISB Lego set wouldn't be like finding a doll that belonged to the Pharaoh's daughter, more likely finding like a wooden box with some hieroglif symbol on it. Say you are an explorer. And on your every day digging you find a box with some hieroglif on it. You suspect what the inside looks like, but you don't know for sure. So the question is, would you leave it as it is, in a museum, OR would you explore it further. Now THAT one is a bit harder, isn't it!? Yes, it would be considered a major archaeological find, and it would be in a museum, but if I was a curator, I would be presenting a completed toy (from an opened box), put together with great care and under optimal conditions for the materials it was made from... But thats just me...

Beautiful MOC, captain! Everything has a very realistic feel about it but I have to say that masonry and the floor boards are my absolute favorites!

Truly great little MOC. Wonderful work on rock formations and buildings, and overall details (like bricks and cannon). A true joy for us, viewers!

1) No, I think this is just another licensed Lego theme, and the classic Pirate sets will stay intact, just the way we know & like them! 2) Yes and no. I will not stop using classic Pirates in my MOCs but I will make some MOCs with these new skin color pirates and islanders. 3) No, I will use them separately. Classic pirates and soldiers on one side, new POTC minifigs on the other.

Great looking MOC! The way lava flow is done is amazing; so realistic! I also like the volcano and the palm trees. I've never seen palm trunks built that way but it looks really good! All the Islanders are great but the one loosing his balance is the most interesting! ;)

Lovely little port! I like the design you used for buildings and landscape but especially the church. It really adds a nice touch! Neat!

Thanks for the detailed review! Definitely one of the 2011 favorites, and great set overall! The vehicle comparisons you did is really nice as well! Cheers for your efforts!

WOW! I know that many have wrote this before me, but this truly is such an amazing ship! And as beautiful as she is on the outside, it gets better when you take look on the inside. "Vesta" would be a true jewel of any Lego fleet!

Thanks for the great review! I also voted for propeller plane model, as I am huge fan, but it was a close call between her and the Jet! If I am ever able I will pick up this set, and it was this review that convinced me! Thanks Rufus!

Looking at those sets now, and thinking back on how I was so happy when I first saw Ninjas returning, makes me kind of sad for the lack of any real value in them (apart from the minifigs)... Thanks for the review, it was very helpful! I'll probably get just the two, smallest, sets. -
Looks very interesting! Also, looking forward for more!

Since Pirates are my favorite Lego theme, I would have to agree that it is never too late to come back to them... I also have to agree with castlestrike666, take really good care of your Pirates, they are absolutely worth it! ;)
