  1. just amazing. the cars are incredible.
  2. this is great - the style of Lego I love best - more detail than genuine Lego City creations, but not as parts and time intensive as the Modular scale. Your design is great, and could easily be modified into dozens of other stores. It's inspiring too, I feel like getting out the Lego! How are you doing your stickers?
  3. Great copter, it has a cool shape and is beautifully constructed.
  4. Welcome! I'm in Wellington.
  5. What's a 'unofficial' P-A-B?
  6. I'm in awe . . . Wonderful detail, great concept, and great action.
  7. My main instrument is guitar but I can also play the piano, bass and drums. I'm also a trained live sound and recording engineer, and do a wee bit of freelancing when I get a chance. I play mainly praise and worship music, but also play in a blues/funk cover band from time to time. Main gear: 2001 G&L ASAT special, Eventide TimeFactor, Fender Bassman head with Mesa Boogie speaker cabinet. 1970's Ibanez 4-string bass, 1984 Lowden acoustic guitar.
  8. Very cool. I really like the amp, although I think the 2x12 cab should be taller? or is it a Mesa Theil style small cab? Anyway, add a good delay pedal, and I would total love this rig!
  9. I just find this interesting. Lego seems to be primary promoted as a boy's toy. There has been the Beville and Clikit lines, which were designed for girls- but only younger ones . . . The thing is, a lot of Lego relates to real life or history. Sets like town, western, castle, and even space could be enjoyed equally by girls and boys, men and women. I think the one reason that less girls are into lego comes down to a basic thing. Minifigs. I have around 50 minifigs. Of that number, I believe 5/6 are female figs. That's a pretty poor ratio. And until recently, there hasn't been much variation in faces and hairpieces for female figs. (The Indy range has done wonders for this!) Do you think that this puts females off Lego? And how could Lego attract more TFOLS and AFOLS? And finally some of my favourite builders - Amy Hughes, Heather LEGOGIRL, Rita Starlings, Deborah Higdon-Leblond, Mandy Dee, Tânia Baixinho, and Stacy Sterling. Not because they are female, just because I'm blown away by their attention to detail, designs, and incredible MOC'ing.
  10. I have a great cat called Fidget the TinkleKitten. She was a stray who lived under my house. She was horribly thin and her fur was in a shocking condition. Over the period of a few months, my wife and I fed her up and built up her confidence. Finally she made it into the kitchen, always sleeping right next to the door for a quick escape if needed. Now after about two years she is as tame as can be and happy as Larry. She's called Fidget because she is incredibly nervous around new people/things. If friends come around to our house she will run away in terror. Interestingly, she will watch my wife and I with friends, and if she sees us give them a hug or a handshake, she figures that these people are her friends too, and will come out and try to find someone to go to sleep on. And she's call Tinkle Kitten, because she was very hard work to get toilet trained! Pics coming!
  11. Hey guys. Just popping in with a progress report. I was going to build a bar, but inspiration didn't strike. It was very, very boring and lame. So I got thinking about what would be valuable in a post-apoc world. I kept coming back to fuel. So I ended up building a used tire depot. In a world of stark desert with no wood to burn, old rubber as a fuel would be important. And clouds of black, acrid smoke from burning rubber seems appropriate too. So the MOC is 90% done, and I'm happy with how it came out. It really just needs figs and a few little details. I'll finish it off, take pics and post them when I get a chance. Oh, and I couldn't fit it in to 16x16, it's shot out to 32x16, so if I could be allocated a new patch please . . . Ben
  12. Very cool improvements. I love the lawnmower and the drinking fountain, both very cleverly built.
  13. I would say around $1500 New Zealand dollars, a very small collection I know. However Lego is only my secondary hobby, I have around $20,000 tied up in music gear.
  14. nice work. I'm working on a practical, music related MOC myself . . .
  15. It's certainly not Toyworld. Just near the foodcourt in the mall. However, it may be run by Toyworld as a temporary location in the christmas period? It was closed when I saw it, so I couldn't ask to find out more.
  16. Went to the Johnsonvillve mall yesterday for some batteries (marathon Wii session) and I walked past a Lego store! Not PAB , but a good range of City, Pirates, Power Miners, Space Police and so on. I saw a Death Star, VW beetle, Effiel Tower, and Town Plan so it must stock exclusives! Couldn't see any technic, apart from Mindstorms NXT 2.0. It was closed and I couldn't see any price tags through the window, but hopefully it will be reasonable.
  17. I am very anti music piracy, and have made the personal decision to delete ALL copied music from my PC. I also sold my MP3 player, as in my mind it encouraged piracy. I now listen to music off CD's and DVD's that I own, and I use youtube and myspace to find new music. I love you sound of vinyl, but don't have the space to keep it, or the time to look for records.
  18. I gotta say Dave, I'm envious of you! My wife isn't at anti-lego, in fact she is even supportive, but I can't really imagine her building along side of me, and I'm sure that would be a lot of fun!
  19. I'm an AFOL of 23, I've been married for three years, and my in-laws have never understood it, they think it's immature and a waste of money. This weekend I showed them my beach house MOC that I've just finished, and there was a satisfying stunned silence. Not that it's an amazing MOC or anything, just that they had never seen Lego beyond sets and the boxy stuff kids build. They were genuinely interested in it, the details and especially my design process. My mother in-law asked if I'd like Lego for christmas! Yes Please!
  20. I loved all of the above really - the booby trap functions, the great colors, and all the fantastic new colors and peices. Just brought an in box Indians set yesterday, (6718, Rain Dance Ridge) pretty stoked about it! Hopefully I'll do a set review when it arrives.
  21. It just pops off. Push the top part from underneath, using a light saber or something.
  22. There is a website called brinklink.com which is great for bulk parts. You can select a 'store' or seller close to you, choose which parts you want from their stock, and they will send you an invoice. Otherwise, check store catalogues for Lego sales and buy kits that have parts you need. I'm not sure where you live, but America and Europe have some Pick A Brick stores where you can buy parts in bulk. And welcome!
  23. I must say there is a (small)positive benefit to all this. I'm building a 'brick' house out of many, many 1x2 and 1x1 plates in dark red, and brown. The two shades of dark red look great, and there seems to be some variation in browns too, I have a few that are lighter than most.
  24. I get exited after an idea really starts working. Then inspiration strikes and I can just keep going for hours. Now in my post-dark-ages and it's great to have my wife around for her non-lego-builder opinion. She sometimes suggests things which are a little tricky to achieve, or will use lots of parts, and that challenges me to figure out how to do it. The worst part of a build is when I run out of parts that I really need. Parts available on Bricklink? CHECK. Cash available in bank account? FAIL. Waiting until next payday? TORTURE!
  25. I wonder if it has anything to go with finger acid? I'm a guitarist. New guitar strings last me quite a long time without getting rusty or tarnished. A while ago, I lent a friend a guitar for a 4 day tour. I gave it to him with brand new strings, and when I got it back 5 days later, those strings were wrecked, rusty, dull and tarnished. His sweat was so acidic that those strings lasted only 4 gigs. I can make a set of strings last 10/15 gigs. So I wonder if those who are having issues with gold paint coming off have more acidic finger oils, causing the metalic pigment to wear fast?
