  1. Ahh, that makes more sense. I guess I assumed you thought I didn't know WHSmiths was a regular high street store... or something Sorry for the confusion! TK
  2. I know, I meant a high street WHSmiths as opposed to the outlet store mentioned by the OP TK
  3. I was in a regular high street store yesterday and this offer wasn't on there either. Ended up with a couple of S7 and one S6, though I did get a voucher for 50p off S1-5 minifigures... of which they had none. Good to know Oxford Street have S5 though, I'll head down next week and cash in on the voucher! TK
  4. Thanks to all again for the gratuitous praise and constructive criticism. It's been a year or two since I last visited EB but you guys are making me glad to be back! As far as the plot goes, I think Bricks4Fun's suggestion of incorporating it into the last paragraph sounds good, so I'll have a play around with it tonight. Definitely I think a plot in any form might be a good incorporation, especially after reading your feedback blackpyre, so I'll see what I can do. As for the title, point duly noted. I'll rework it again to see what I can come up with. EDIT: I've changed it around a fair bit and come up with a (hopefully) more apt title. Let me know what you think! TK
  5. Many thanks for your kind words Bricks4Fun Indeed I believe I did mean to say secret; thanks for picking up on that! Duly noted This one did confuse me for a while; Microsoft Word insisted on this usage, though my instincts told me otherwise - obviously I wasn't strong enough to act on them Another great suggestion! Written in the haze of the eleventh hour, I actually have no idea what the title is about I'll think of something more fitting before the deadline. Thanks again! TK
  6. The Captain's Chivalry Upon a whimsy so innate, a man lay to replete the meandering nuances of the destitute scoundrels, vagabonds and urchins that rested before his path. A man so wiry and wry as that young William, a man whom injustice might cause not a flicker of unrest but a tirade of sorts; a man of a conscientious conscience that lay dormant not for a second of his waking mind - who else to partake in such a quest; who else in the land of the scrutinized, the land of the hierarchy, than he with such great social mobility that he might pray to one day take the hand of even the governor’s daughter? For William was a man not of the blacksmith’s shop, nor of the crumbling castles of foretold lore, but instead of the Kings and Queens of the land he so readily called home. And so he had taken it, not just upon himself, but indeed of the land and its so wearily betrothed colonies that he might fashion a redemption; that he might fashion anew the dreams of those lost to the vacuous vortex of the material. Among these a pitiful bunch: layabouts, vagrants, cheats and so on - each had come in the wake of the Dutchman to plea, unknowing of its new Captain. For William was not of the disposition that afflicted its former master; no longer did the writhing, woeful tentacles of Davy Jones scour its decks. William endeavoured to redeem those who had run astray; such was his destiny on the seven seas. Most serious a case was that of the poor pirate Brickbeard; found stranded, ship shattered to five hundred and ninety two parts, the Captain suffered the most terrible affliction. For while the land lay forever in flesh, This man was yellow. ----- 300 words exactly; I suppose you could classify it as less of a story and more a description of a scene? If it doesn't count I'll amend it but let me know what you think regardless EDIT: some changes made based on suggestions. EDIT 2: title change, nothing major... though I don't know how to change the topic title! EDIT 3: a few word changes in the first two paragraphs and a major overhaul to the third. Tried to incorporate a semblance of plot, and switched the beard pun for another LEGO-related atrocity ;) again, I've changed the title, but still I have no clue how to change the topic name! D: TK
  7. I checked on Thursday to one of the few near me but they were out of stock, checking online there's none left round here... Thanks anyway TK
  8. With TLC, anything is potential catapult material! TK
  9. I saw the Storm Lasher a few weeks ago before the 'crisis' at £7.49, but passed it up... also, the V-19 was supposed to be £19.99, so I'd say it was worth the gamble. Haven't managed to find one myself. TK
  10. Whoops, sorry about that TK
  11. Just so you know, I believe those UK prices are for Forbidden Planet only... RRPs are as follows (found on the FP website itself ): BPs - £8.99 Hyena Bomber - £19.99 Vader's TIE - £29.99 AAT - £39.99 Attack Shuttle - £49.99 With today's exhchange rate, they're only slightly dearer than the US prices... TK
  12. Really? I thought it was first put up on pre-order for £199.99 for a couple of months, then TLC realised their mistake and set it at the proper price of £274.99. I don't ever remember it being £300, and if it were the reduced VAT would only mean a new price of around £293 or so... TK
  13. Actually, the original price was £274.99, so it's only been reduced by £5 or so - it's only 2.5% less VAT, so not a big great reduction! TK
  14. Great taste in music, Trexxen basically I like most of what he listed (haven't listened to a few though) and Metallica of course TK
  15. The January sets were disappointing (apart from the BPs), but the CW sets were pretty good - the RGS was excellent. The Death Star is brilliant, but too expensive - the main disappointment this year was how expensive the sets were compared to, say, the '06 sets. Still, I guess that's inflation for you TK
  16. Bought the following sets on eBay: 6982 Explorien Starship 7150 TIE Fighter and Y-Wing 7131 Anakin's Podracer 8860 Car Chassis 8082 Multi Model Control Set which, according to lowest price (complete, no box) on BL are worth $320. I got them for £58 according to the description they should be mostly complete and come with boxes. TK
  17. Great review, thanks! Any chance of a comparison shot between all versions of this ship? TK
  18. I also feel inclined to second this, but it's hard to keep track of everyone on here these days... TK
  19. See, there's a Megadeth song about this... Quite apt, doncha think? TK
  20. Consider me in. I need something to cheer me up... free stuff usually does the trick! TK
  21. I'm guessing if these were true the Queen would be in the Mountain Fortress. But only three sets? I hope this line isn't dying out... TK
  22. Played keyboard for a year but it bored me, have now played drums for a year and a half. I'm not too bad, but will be finding lessons elsewhere soon; new drum teacher is... annoying. TK
  23. Ziro the Hutt? Are you serious? That would be a minifig-sized abomination. TK
  24. I voted for skelliesgang... that 'movie poster' is perfect TK
  25. LEGO don't do direct conversions on prices... sets are always cheaper in America. And as NTF said, the source always has high prices... TK
