OK'S! YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOOTS MY HEAD OFFS WIF A CANNON!!!1!1one! I sorta can see the lock as a treasure chest. If I squint... It looks more like a big brown handbag though... As for the ships... I was thinking about it, and it would be very difficult to get one that's bigger, but not TOO big. I also admire your use of "X" tiles (hmm... X-files?) as sail decoration for the ones that you have currently. Even the way the printing has worn off contributes to the look. A big on parts usage there.

Yep. IMO, the two ten dollar sets and the shark the strong points of the theme, very unusual.
-
*thwacks himself on head* Sorry 'bout that, I'm in the middle of a major Spanish project, mind not firing on all cylinders at the moment. Yep, there would be a lot more BP's for the later movies, I was only doing the ones for COTBP - ones for DMC and AWE would have to include the ones you mentioned as well as Sao Fang's Singapore dudes.
-
Doing a micro-scale for the competition is certainly original - I like it! However, there are a couple of things I would change. For one, I would get rid of the ginormous lock sitting amongst the treasure - where would Brickbeard have gotten a forty-foot long padlock anyway? Also, I would trade out the three ships for one larger, slightly more detailed one. It would make the scaling a little better. I love the backstory with spiders - had a run-in with some Acromantulae, did he? It's the sort of POTC "ooh, pirates aren't just guys who drank a lot of rum, stole stuff, and got killed, they're magical, mystical people that are way better than ninjas" vibe. Good entry! If you manage to pull off a good slightly-larger-micro-scale ship, it will be even better

Goodness Admiral M, you come up with all these lovely ship sets but forget... the Interceptor! It would be a small ship with one deck, Jack, Will, a couple soldiers, probably a play feature where you can make the mast swing around and belt Will one in the gut... plus, since it's so small, it would only be 40-50 dollars! I could afford it! :DDDD (there isn't a pirate smiley to express how happy I would be about a cheap ship that isn't a dinghy) Edit: After I got over my euphoria, I also realized that you forgot the three SW style battlepacks - eleven dollars each with 4 or 5 figs as well as some sort of filler model that's about sixty pieces. We get one for Jack's pirates, one for Davy's Skellies, and one for Norrington's Soldiers. Another Edit: I looked up Mega Bloks (they haven't even got a proper website as far as I can tell, I had to go to target.com) Pirates of the Caribbean. They stopped producing new sets a long time ago, and from the looks of it, it shouldn't be too hard for LEGO to make designs different enough that it's not copyright infringement - the sets were crappy even by MB standards (I know, right? What standards?), and most of them had heavily <insert that tiresome argument> pieces, the likes of which wouldn't be used by lego for a full-fledged theme. I think that if they want to do it, they're safe to.

Exactly. They almost always have a Space theme going, and they usually last for three-four years. They wouldn't get rid of SPIII and replace it with another one so soon. The Raid VPR's price/piece ratio is FAIL. The Smash'n'grab looks good, though. I tend to like the baddie ships better than the police ships.

WOW! This MOC has perhaps the most pure steampunkery per cubic inch than any I have ever seen. I love all the greebles, a huge amount for such a small creation. Awesome job. PS - if you have a chair, a lamp, and printer paper, you have a photo studio.

(MOC) Space Police Modified Baracuda tcx17 Cruiser
Tereglith replied to Tereglith's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Most of the white pieces came from a first-wave exo-force model... I had to peel stickers off all of them... now I'm reconsidering... At one point this model did have a shiny chrome exhaust pipe and one of the gray flexible tubes on the back, to shake things up a little, but I had to take them off to use in a science "base" MOC. -

Yeah, I know about the pictures - I kinda forgot to turn the flash on... I'll take better ones this weekend during my LEGO PHotography PHest! -
Nope, everyone knows that marriage at the end of The Muppet Movie was legally binding. Kermit's got her until death does them part. I voted bagels. Because although cinammon toast is good, you have to time-consumingly put the butter and cinammon-sugar onto the toast. Whereas bagels often come with the cinnamon-sugar already on the outside, and then you can put on cream cheese... *drools all over keyboard thinking about it*. I do not care if you brand me a bagel heretic! I am willing to die for my cause! Bagel Crusades FTW!

Steroids much? Nice MOC, it does look like the buffest, most battle-hardened Vorox who is now leader of the tribe.

Black Friday 2009 discussion thread

Survival strategy - wear a bulletproof vest. Covered in scimitars. It limits mobility, but it absolutely ensures that you will not get run over by a crazy-shopping-cart-weilding soccer mom. Without impaling her first, anyway. -
I'm trick-or-treating, and, as per my insanely rigorous standards for costumes, I have perhaps the most complex Halloween costume/multimedia event ever created. I'm going as a science fair project. You see, I was testing a zombiism virus (which appeared in my alternate universe in New Jersey earlier this month) on a group of worms. My daily science log (a piece of experimental horror fiction in its own right) details how the worms slowly become zombies until, in the week before Halloween, one of them bites my finger. I finish up my project and then fall asleep/die the next day, and am rushed to the hospital. While I'm there, the technician working on me appends her studies to my science fair board, revealing that they have discovered that the only cure is the ingestion of massive ammounts of glucose. At that point, she attaches a bag for the gathering of glucose to the bottom of the board, even as I am lumbering into the room as a zombie. She tries to defend herself with the science fair board, and my arms end up going through it. I now wander the streets, going up to doorways, where hopefully the residents will recognize my plight and put glucose into the bag. As for the multi-media part, I've been posting the parts of the research results on my facebook the day that they "happen". Single most complex Halloween costume I've ever done, and I've done some pretty complex ones.

Peanut butter and Chocolate and... lego? Two - I mean, three! Three great tastes that go great together.

Aah, this is definitely an improvement over the first. The pirate captain looks absolutely horirfied that his magnificent sculpture is crumbling, and the pirate looks disturblingly happy about the same thing - the crazy sadist. It reminds me of the winning entry from last year, in which a pirate shoots up through the toilet at a redcoat who is simply doing his business. Good job on the underground. The pirate captain's house could use a little bit of work though - if you coult through in a valise table or at least a kitten it would add a lot to this part of the creation. Also, what are the dimensions of this MOC? Because as far as I can tell, it's 5x12, for a total of sixty studs. This means that, if you finnegled with the mods a bit, you could get it into the small category, where the competition is a little less fierce.
-
Green shrubs much? This is a great entry, because as we all know, knowledge is the greatest treasure (after LEGOs, of course). I adore how you've seamlessly integrated the SNOT water and the regular land, it adds quite a lot to the entry. I like how the pirates are so ecstatic at having found all these old papers, totally the opposite of how we would expect pirates to react. All in all, good entry.
-
O_0 o_O Err...interesting... entry, to say the least Eh ehm. Well, for what it is you've executed it very well. The path looks great, and I love how there's a subtle slope to the ground. I know that many members don't like the use of large flowers, but I don't mind them. The soldier certainly looks happy about his destination, but I would definitely change his outfit to a regular soldier's outfit (either red or blue, depending on what you want to say about which side), and since many of the classic pirates fans are self-proclaimed "minifig racists" (just look at the "classic pirates or POTC" poll), I would also change his face and hands. In other words, the entry's great, but the figure doesn't fit. If you're using him for lack of a soldier, run out to the store an buy a cannon battle. Costs as much as a McDonald's lunch, and you'll get a good "oh boy, I'm gonna have some fun tonight!" face with it for the soldier.

Even during times of interstellar peace, backroad hyperlanes attract the attention of criminals who want nothing more than speed. Drag racing is a constant threat at warp intersections, where even coming within a dekaparsec of a criminal's warp field can tear off a fender - or more. It also becomes a problem in the habitable terraspheres, where in-atmosphere hovercars careen between skyscrapers at sublight speeds. All of them have the same design - a huge custom engine with a tiny area for holding the driver behind it, around which high-capacity energy pipelines flow to the thrusters at the back. The problem with controlling this crime sector for the space police came when they sent their conventionally shaped engines-at-the back ships to check them out - the crooks had set up scanners that looked for the energy pattern of high-medium-high of all incoming ships. When they got wind of the Space Police's low-low-high energy signatures, they scattered to a new area faster than the space police could follow. Aiming to solve this problem, one of the Space Police's top mechanics created a ship in the mold of all the drag racers. Taking the sporty Kuiat Baracuda tcx17, already a hotrod in its own right, he tore off the engine and replaced it with a completely new and totally off-the-charts powerful one of his own construction. Add a few flashy fins, and voila! A ship to confuse any sensors the crooks could set up. Even on visual, it looks like an oddly-colored hotrod, until the "nacelles" suddenly start shooting lasers, the "headlights" begin sending out sonic blastwaves, and the red and blue lights turn on. If the crooks try to run, odds are their speed will be no match for this bad boy. Since hte introduction of ten 'Cudas to the space police fleet, the number of illegal races in the galaxy has gone down by at least 87%. You'd have a smug smile too if your ride was this cool. EDIT: NEW PICTURES Here's a picture in better light than the first ones: And here's a picture of the magical play feature, a small storage area: This was my first "real" space MOC. I'm open to suggestions (as long as they aren't about my pictures, I know they suck), but may be a little reluctant to change things unless it's a reeeaaaallyy good idea.

Thanks for the feedback. I've got the crate up out of it's depression (gave it some prozac ), and in doing so added some more variability of the ground level. I'll see if I can find some tan cheese to add a little more. As for the useless crap the pirates have found, there are quite a few outlandish things already - see if you can find a Batarang and General Greivous' head. Also, the lightsaber hilt IS a light saber hilt, one which they found under ground (presumabely next to said Greivous head). He only thinks it's a telescope. Get the joke now about the red button? If I can find a 1x1x6 tan brick, I'll definitely make the "x-ray vision" hole a little bigger. I've already widened the hole on the top. Thanks for all the feedback, be sure to check back this weekend when I'll be posting my revisions.

I'm guessing they reached the island around 9:00 am, stopped to have a sandwhich break three hours in (Unfortunately for the Pirate Who Likes Green Clothes, his wife had packed him an egg salad sandwhich, which he hates), and right now are digging in the hot 3:00 sun. When you say open up the bottom, do you mean the "x-ray vision" hole in the side, or the top of the pit hole at the top? Because neither would be that easy to expand... I'll see if I can scrounge up a few more plates, and maybe put the "useless bucket" at an angle. Thanks for the feedback!

Ah, homework, I hate that stuff. Can't wait to see your new entry!

99d After things calmed down between the navy and the pirates (after their joint defeat of the yellowcoats, as will be detailed in my medium entry description), a couple of the more enterprising crew decided that they ought to go an dig up their captain's forgotten treasure, and live it up! So they got excavation supplies and headed over to the island, thinking that in a couple of hours they would be richer than they ever had been. Six hours later, and they were still digging (or at least, one of them was).... The pirate who had thought of the whole venture was certainly enjoying himself... The Pirate Who Likes Green Clothes was on his digging shift, down in the pit He's sad that the others seem to have forgotten that their shifts should have started an hour ago. During break times, the pit looked like this. They'd tried digging through the rock, but it' hadn't worked, so they'd just dug down past it. (This picture looks really unnatural, because I accidentally turned the flash on. The orange thing is an Ice Planet 2002 visor, which will soon be the latest addition to the contents of the bucket) While excavating, these three have found a number of useless objects in the sand. They toss them in this bucket. The Pirate Who Can't Grow a Proper Beard is inspecting such an item right now... he may not be for much longer, though. What's with this blasted telescope? Can't see a thing through it! Maybe it'll help if I push this red button..." Of course, the Pirate Captain was far too crafty to let his crew be able to dig up his "forgotten" treasure, which is still very much on his mind. To get to it, they'd need to have brought the key to the hidden door on the rock... My third revision. I tried to take some of your advice, and made the entry twice as tall. I also added the third pirate and the palm tree. I think it's a lot better. Hope you like it! (No, I really do, I want a free shipwreck hideout, or at least cannon battle! )

That's a nice car you've got there! The chick is... disturbing... to say the least . I might extend the hood a couple studs and add to the engine that's sticking up, to give it more of that hot-rod look, but other than that, the car is awesome. The door handles are very clever, so kudos to you if you came up with that. I would expect to see it on the cover of an interstellar ship fancier's magazine. "Here it is, the 2617 Chevrolet Aveo!"

Hmm... This is a tough question. I voted "either as long as we get them soon". I liked the pirates sets we got this year, but what everyone was saying about how POTC sets would be so much more expensive isn't really true. I mean, consider the line we had just now. And nearly every price point, the figure was 7 pieces to 1 dollar (USD), instead of the more usual 10. This is about the same as most licensed sets. As for the figures, you either like yellas all the way, or you don't mind fleshies. I must say that I'm in the latter camp, and so wouldn't mind the figures we would get. My only fear is that characters (like Jack) that have big enough hair to need a hairpiece, but don't look like themselves without hats, willl get either one or the other, or a made-in-china painted hair/hat combo. I'm not really sure what the solution to this would be, though.... And the sets would be awesome. We'd get a mid-sized ship (the interceptor), which would mean that I'd finally get to have a proper hull (buying the any of the myriad 100$ ships that we get would kill my budget for the rest of the LEGO spectrum), as well as more than two land-based sets, like we got with the recent wave. And, I see five (count 'em, five) SW-style battle packs that could be made (Jack's pirates, Davy's fishmen, Beckett's navy, Barbossa's skellies, and Sao's Singapore dudes), and which would allow for much easier collection of minifigs than lego's nonlicensed paradigm of "you get one figure for every five dollars. Or maybe you get less. It depends". But, of course, classic pirates has the nostalgia factor, and I do like it when LEGO comes up with it's own ideas. But really, either would be fine with me. In fact, after justifying POTC up there, I even feel like rooting for it a little - after all, it'll go away after the second trilogy's wrapped up, and we'll get classic pirates back!

Harrison Ford has said that he will do a fifth Indy movie provided that the script is good. If he signs on soon, it could prop up the theme, as Indy would be back in people's minds. We can only hope.
