  1. I think I just got the one of these. Nothing fantastic but I suppose the minifig parts will come in handz, and for some reason, I have a particular fondness of hull pieces. Goes back to my childhood, I think, but for the life of me I can't figure out what, exactly. Anyhow, yeah, fairlz mundane model overall. At least I got the right minifig head this time. With the fireman car, I got the criminal head with the gold tooth. Either that was a mispack, or LCFD's background checks are not what they used to be.
  2. This is the one I've wanted most too, and I got *quick count* six. Mainly because of the minifig; that face is probably my favourite in Lego, he's so happy! I was a tad disappointed by the slighty sloppz wheel design, such as the way the halves spin independently, and how the rollers themselves aren't perfectly smooth; perfectly level road surfaces may be traditional, but THIS construction company obviously prides itself on innovation. The basic Technic bricks do make it seem wide, but I can't see anz way to improve on that. The machine itself looks a little sparse. However, I'm not complaining as much as it looks I am. I love this thing!
  3. Exactly the same, snip the token out and hand it in to the relevant store chain in your region on the day (although my local shop will take older tokens too). Alternatively, collect seven different tokens and send them off to the address, along with a cheque (€13.99 from Ireland) to get the full set of twelve in the post.
  4. There are a lot of people who adore Halo, a lot of people who plain don't like it, and a massive number of people in between. To each his own... My own would be reasonable interest. I played the first game to death, enjoyed the second one, and never actually played the third one at all. The "mature" argument has nothing to do with Halo's audience, it has to do with Lego's. The kind of full on violence of the Halo universe would be way out of line beside other Lego products, even the most combat+oriented ones like Exo-Force and Agents. Thatąs not a criticism of Halo, it's just stating the obvious. Mazbe Mega Bloks can get away with itł I don't know much about their marketing plan. The fact that Mega Bloks does have the licence means that Lego Halo has moved from having a snowball's chance in Hell to no chance at all of happening. But IF.... Iąd like to see Lego's take on the Ghost. Iąve always loved the look of the vehicle and I think the Mega Bloks one looks awful.
  5. Didn't have this one. Exo-Force is my "main" Lego line, it's what got me back into Lego, but only towards what has turned out to be the later stages of the line, so I'm missing most of the sets. Uhrrr... NEVER show an Exo-Force mech from the side or the rear, the designers really didn't give anything other than the front any attention, as your pics show. That's Exo-Force's main downfall. Still good, though. Good review, cheers!
  6. Hmm, I was going to ask if I could get one of these instead of one of today's Creator lizards, since I missed the paper on Sunday (and I got five today), but I think I'll just take my army of death lizards. There's nothing really interesting about this car - I thought it was a go-cart at first, because the minifig wasn't present on the picture I saw. The pieces are meh, the design is illogical and the lizards come with loads of flat green corner-hinge bits I can never have enough of. Great review!
  7. Wow, I didn't get that many spares. I got three: one of each stub, and a lever.
  8. Aargh, I just found out about this today; and I've been making a note to check the Mirror every Sunday since I missed the start of the Star Wars one. I checked it yesterday, why didn't I see it??? Anyhow, I got two of today's and the lady in Smyths (the Irish toy chain) kindly let me take a Fireman's Car instead of one of the tractors. Hopefully I can do the same tomorrow and get yesterday's Doctor's Car as well. I'll probably get a good few of the Steamroller, because that minifig is my favourite City Legoman of them all. For the Star Wars one, I got up to a dozen of some of the models (The STAP Fighters are still lined up on my DVD shelf) but I probably won't go quite as nutty for this promotion. Cool, though.
  9. I was indeed misremembering the price, it's €12.99 here too. Almost got it, but I just can't spare the funds right now. I did notice that the heads on the box are all identical, perhaps yours were just a little messed up?
  10. I've been looking at these in the shops since they came out, but haven't gotten any yet because I have other Lego priorities, and they don't make nice display models (I reckon). Some nice bits alright - pumpkin heads especially - but the ones I'd like don't warrant paying tat price for them. I'll have to check again, but I don't think it's €12.99 for me, otherwise I think I'd be more tempted. €16.99, I think. Maybe I'm misremembering. Great review, though, and thanks for the closer look! How sturdy is the baseplate? It looks like it's held together fairly loosely.
  11. Ah. Laboratory. My first thought was that he meant "labor" as in "Patlabor," a giant robot anime. They're referred to as labors by the characters but you'd have to be seriously hardcore to refer to all mechs in real life by that :) A new villain faction sounds good. Agents would be my "guilty pleasure" line; no tremendous interest in it, but I own a few sets because they have some fantastic designs now and then. Also, I'm a Bond nut.
  12. Well, they look alright, from straight on, at low res, but otherwise they look a bit googley. I mean, in Pi's first image for example, it looks good, but in the second, they don't even look like eyes.
  13. Yeah, but for me, RC and the giant Buzz get worse-lookin' with every new shot. Surely there were other options for RC's eyes? They're still above the "Buy" line, though.
  14. Hmm, I can see why Lego had to slash the number of pieces they made a few years back. These sets feature a lot of highly specialized bits n' bobs that I haven't seen before. As an aside, can anyone point me to a rundown of the low point in Lego's history that Peppermint_M mentions? I have heard that Lego made some drastic changes around 2000/2001. I know they reduced the brick count, and TBB mentioned a while back that some changes were controversial, but I've never been able to read about what heppened. Wikipedia's history only goes to 2000. Anyhow, yeah, some strange single-use pieces there but I'd LOVE that big dome thing, even if there's not much I could do with it. There are a good few other bits I see that I'd love to have. The vehicles look kinda typical for the era, nothing too imaginitive that you wouldn't see in other lines like Exploriens or Space Police II. This is a great look at a line that sits in the middle of my dark age. Cheers!
  15. Is there a problem with ball cups breaking? I got a fair bit of Exo-Force and only one cup has ever broken. Granted, it's the only Lego piece I own that's ever broken....
  16. Depends, they may have seen design documents, storyboards, that sorta thing. There was a rough draft produced to help convince the original voice actors to return too, they've probably seen that. The release is still nine months away so it's probably not fully finished.
  17. I mentioned that to see if it'd provoke a reaction I do like her, though, even if she is a bit towards the pop end.
  18. That's not half bad. Thanks! I already like Mylene Farmer.
  19. Don't rule it out. I can totally see this happening. Well, not the KimT bit... okay, maybe that, but mainly Lego Ben10-style figures of Darth Vader or General Grievous being made. We already have Star Wars Transformers, Star Wars Galaxy Heroes; they keep making variations on the same Star Wars theme to see how much money they can milk from the license. If these Ben 10 figures turn out to be a success - and I'm in the camp that says they will, the Ben 10 license is extremely hot and I'd never even heard of Galidor until about a month ago - then Lego will likely seek to expand the system. All it needs is for Hasbro to be okay with it. And they love new kinds of action figures.
  20. Can't put my finger on it. Funny thing is, I love stuff like the A-Team, but the Dukes just annoy me. The characters, the scripting, the set-pieces... they just all come together to wreck my head in some unspecified manner and I switch over after about a minute.
  21. I think it's best to just not think of these as Lego. And I don't mean that in a bad way; I just mean that, when they arrive in my local shop, I'd expect to see them in the action figure aisle rather than in the Lego aisle. They already stack the Lego board games over with the other board games. So, they're customisable action figures that happen to be compatible with Lego. The box design doesn't even emphasize Lego much. Like I said earlier, the piece count won't matter to the target audience.
  22. I suppose they're not really aimed at people who would think in terms of pieces. I mean, a reguler Ben 10 action figure only has one piece, and they're obviously hot. A kid who buys these will be able to mix the limbs around, and interchange them with a second model to creature their own aliens; that's where the appeal seems to lie. Modular, maybe, rather than constructible. It still means that they hold zero appeal to me. I won't be getting any. I think it's a nice idea and I hope it does well, it's just not "my" Lego. No harm in that.
  23. I heard of it. I just can't stand it Finally got around to watching Appleseed Ex Machina last night. You don't need to read the box to know that John Woo worked on it; the first ten minutes make that pretty damn obvious. Fantastic slow-motion-flying-through-the-air-guns-blazing sequences let down by the lame, unimaginative and completely out-of-place plot involving zombies. And Briareos has a sword.
  24. You're suggesting they should have slammed the rocket into the starving people? What would that prove??? Fair point, but at the same time, all progress shouldn't grind to a halt when economies go belly-up. Ireland's the same way; worse, in fact, since we don't have the kinds of resources to get back up and running that larger economies can potentially tap. We were one of the first countries to officially declare recession and there's no sign of it abating yet. Also, our government's inept clown : Nobel Peace Prizewinner ratio is rather less stable than yours :) It may seem extravegant to spend such an enormous fund on so apparently insignifigant a project, but like Siegfried said, there are far less-deserving causes recieving far more funding than what I see as the future of the human race. Incidently, on another topic someone mentioned, the current belief is that the moon was not captured by Earth's gravity, but actually erupted from Earth following an early collision with another planet. The theory goes that the two proto-planets, Earth and Theia, were about the same size and shared their orbits, until they collided. Most of the material was absorbed into Earth, with the "splash" eventually forming the moon.
  25. About time somebody bombed the moon. Stupid Martians. I tend to be behind the space programme - any space programme - 100%. Imagine where we'd be if it hadn't slackened off after the moon landings. As a result, I'd never consider any genuine mission to be a waste of taxpayer money. I'll be at work when the impact occurs, so I won't be able to watch it. I'm sure I'll be able to have a gawk afterwards.
