Please share, I'm quite interested to see what you were looking for since I think many of the suggestions made here were good.

Nice, I'll probably try and find the parts to build myself one.

How do you guys with big collections take time to sort?
peterab replied to wolfwing's topic in General LEGO Discussion
On sorting I try and keep my collection sorted at all times to avoid the huge sorting jobs, but I've never bought 12 pounds at a time. I use a surprising amount of technic for SNOT in train cars, and others use it for carriage frames. The beams can be useful for brick effects on modular houses. I know space builders will use it for getting just the right angle on their ships etc. ETA: Slaves work cheaper, and it's sometimes hard to find willing workers to sort your lego. A whip works well on slaves -
Once again a job well done. I have one suggestion, the arched window on the top floor would look better if the mudguard piece were one stud further out and the square gaps around it were filled in behind it. It looks wrong ate the moment and distracts from the otherwise high standard of the rest of the Moc. I hope we see more of your buildings in the future (as I will be using ideas and maybe even copies of your buildings on my train layout).

I agree with Legoist. I hope EN has been popular, but I'm not sure how it sales compare with the modular houses. If it has sold well I'd hope to either see EN replaced with another Lego exclusive train, or another added to the line. It's anybody's guess if/when it will happen. I hope that the feedback from EN results in the next exclusive train having a few carriages rather than just one. I'm surprised the Brickster is still hoping for individual cars as IMHO it's as likely as snow in Darwin. The current city trains will probably be available (at least from S@H) for a few years, so we wont see new ones till they are replaced.

There are a bunch of ideas in the Lego Train ideas group on Flickr Here Not all of them are successful so read the comments, as there may be improvements mentioned. The Flickr Train groups haven't been mentioned much on EB, but they are also a great resource.

The zombies & cheerleaders are awesome. Being a town collector many of the others will be useful. Ninjas and forestmen fill gaps due to my dark age. The spaceman and robot don't really excite me as far as usefullness, but one of each is interesting. I'm don't have an army builder mentality, but I do like these enough to want at least one of each, and will probably be able to find a use for them in my town. I do wonder what anyone will do with 300 spartans in a few years time though. I think a lot of the more specific figures can be widely useful too. The ringmaster torso for instance could be re-purposed as a fox hunt. The vampire and mime torsos strike me as appropriate to a goth nightclub. It just takes a bit more mix and matching. The Spartan and Pharaoh legs will be usefull as skirts.

I use a couple of custom built tables for my layout. They are each sized to hold 6x3 32x32 stud base plates. Some of the advantages for me are; They can be used as modules for my clubs layout. I have cut a hole to sink my turntable into the table. I will be able to build more tables as I expand the layout. Modular tables will enable me to customize my layout to fit different rooms.

It was a huge effort, but I'm pretty sure I've seen photos of it being tied to the roof of the gym. It could hold it's own weight but was unstable and was in danger of falling sideways. Still a great effort since if I remember correctly it had never been completely assembled prior to the show. Brickvention also doesn't use barriers, because we feel it gives a more friendly feeling to the exhibition. I've never lost any parts from my train layout, and I've heard very few stories of other stuff going missing. We tend to keep minifigs back from the edges of the tables. Most parts that do go missing are associated with models being knocked off the tables, and that is rare except when over enthusiastic train drivers go too fast, or kids try to touch the trains.

These are all cool Mocs, but I must admit they're a bit modern for my tastes. Though most cabinets in my day were pretty much all the same shape. Think Space Invaders, Galaxian etc.

Hi Sayid, I'm pretty sure the points don't need to be set correctly coming from the other direction, they are spring loaded so the wheels will just push them out of the way.

I see a pattern in what the US misses out on. In the past the US has missed out on advent calendars, certain impulse sets and have had low stock of the collectible minifigs. Now ask what do they have in common, and what is the unique thing about the US market? They all have detailed printed minifigs (in smaller total production numbers than say city police men), and the US is unique in that it has the lowest Lego prices. In other posts you've admitted that you expect Lego to do the most profitable thing. I'd guess the minifigs have a pretty high production cost (lets call it X). Would you sell lots more figs in the US for a profit of Y-X, or stock the rest of the world where your profit is 2Y-X. I don't think Lego underestimates the US at all, but it appears the US market is less profitable for sets made up mostly of rare figs. On the up side you have the cheapest Lego in the world. I've seen people unwilling to buy these figures at the Bricklink prices, implying the sellers are inflating the prices, but a lot of them, including shipping from Europe, compare pretty well with my local retail prices. Their mistake was probably one of PR rather than under supply IMHO. Given an untested product would you rather end up with a unmet demand or a surplus you couldn't sell? For these sort of collectibles, not being able to get the first series, and the upward pressure on their prices, probably helps drive the collect-ability/sales of the later series anyway.

Host it somewhere else such as Brickshelf, and then just link to it. Eurobricks has a very low upload limit so thats probably whats stopping you.

Hitting a moose is bad because they're bigger and heavier than a roo, but a big roo at full speed jumps about 10 meters, and can move at 70km/h for short distances. They are pretty hard to see coming, and like to run across roads at dusk. Don't get me started on wombats ... or I'll go off topic again.

This is a great little truck Ricecracker, and I particularly like the Japanese character on the side. In Australia, many of the large trucks which are used between cities have what we call 'Roo Bars' to protect against Kangaroo's. They are easily as large as the ones on your truck, though they are more often fitted on bigger trucks. A Kangaroo will totally destroy a car if it fully hits you.

We all think you're funny too ... just in a different way Whoops I'm not suposed to poke the tiger mods walrus am I, please don't ban me. Seriously seems like a needed feature short of going on a banning purge.

M>LTC has a loco with a working engine that we run at train shows, and we run it both open and closed. The kids seem to like seeing it run open.
-
I'm pretty sure on of the US LTCs had a diagram online of the studs that lined up under the curves, and where jumper plates and 2x2 turntables could be used to get greater connection, but I can't find it at the moment. The rest was mostly supported by tiles as in your examples though.

Nice Target store so far LT. For those interested in the windows look here

Sounds like a very successful event. Any indication of how many people came through the doors? Gabe, Melbourne has its own convention. Cpt Zuloo and some of the other Brickexpo exhibitors displayed at the last Brickvention, and I hope they will again next year. BTW we have now finalised a date for BV - 20-22 January in our new bigger venue: Melbourne Town Hall

Being a promotional set means they are offered to companies for promotions, so its a bit random where they are available. Bricklink is your most reliable way of getting them.

My observation is that as new members many people comment on all the new mocs saying stuff like 'thats great', 'nice moc' etc. After a while they realise that reading thirty responses like that doesn't add much to a thread, so they slow down. I only comment on stuff I'm really interested in or if I have a concrete suggestion for improvement. I haven't built many construction vehicles, so I can't offer any suggestions for improvement. It's not that I don't like your moc, just that I want to avoid a 'thats cool' post.

Monteur is my favourite train builder, both because he models stuff I like and because his attention to detail is so good. I really love his German freight stuff.

I've modified my green cargo train to have two RC motors and I'm very pleased with it. I'll be testing its pulling power at a show 0n the 22nd. I think it works well because the weight of the batteries is centrally mounted between the motors, and the loco is heavier than the new yellow cargo train. To correct the wheelslip you may want to add more weight above the PF motor. Or perhaps try replacing the traction bands on the wheels with larger O-rings. You will probably find the RC motors get caught under the new train baseplates since they require a 9V style plug which sticks up a bit. A second PF motor with the above changes might be better.

Perhaps the house looked too monotone in all one colour. Lego does have a habit of looking artificial if you use an expanse of one colour. I have to strongly protest your suggestion of a different colour for the wagon, you are clearly aberrant ... of course I could be planning a low sided train flat car in grey. They could have chosen reddish brown for the wagon and then it would have been perfect :-) In fact I might have to pop over to bricklink now to check what colours the wagon side comes in. While I dont think this set is as brilliant as the toy shop, it's still way above average and worth getting.
