TECHNIC Sets from 2010

The new sets look great now we have some decent photos of them. The 'B' model Sea Plane and Tractor look great too. I hope the B model for the Log Loader isn't simply a trailer change, but I guess that is more then likely. -
[REVIEW] 8275 Bulldozer
tomacwhite replied to Ickelpete's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have just been playing around with the 'Dozer and I noticed that the rear "fork" implement shakes slightly when you begin to lower it from its upper position, is this normal? It doesn't appear to be stuck on anything, or have anything catching, but it just shakes and vibrates a bit when you start to lower it, and when you raise it back up it shakes just before it reaches back to its upper position. Does yours do this? cheers :) -

Wow, those shots make the Buggy and Chopper look far better! :) Thanks for sharing :) OOohh the steering wheel of the Buggy is connected to the actual steering. It looks well detailed for its size. -

I really like the new Forest Tractor and the Mini Excavator, the designs very much resemble how the machinery looks in real life. The Forest machines arm does look kinda thin, but then the most recent comparison to it would be the ultra chunky arm of the Crane Truck. It reminds me a little of the Cherry Picker, which looks narrow in photos but when you actually build it it turns out to be a great design. From the various comments around the web, it looks like the Forest Tractor has very varied opinions right now. I do think that some people are comparing these models to the Crane Truck and Wheel Loader, where instead they should be compared to that Hauler from early this year etc. -

That is to pump the system. If you look on the box art you can see the arrow pointing inwards, showing that that is where you pump. I've been looking closely at the Tractor, and it looks like the trailer has a crank or lever for something. If you look under the turntable you can see the pneumatic levers, and under those you can see a small lever or crank. It looks like it can't be turned through a full circle as it would knock into the pneumatic levers, so perhaps its a 180 degree movement for locking the trailer onto the tractor? -

Do you think we could get something like 8862 or is it too soon after 8455? The Back Hoe 8862 is one of my favourite models ever, would be amazing to seen another. I have never seen 8455, but it doesn't look as big? Something similar in size to this years Front/Wheel Loader but with the Backhoe would be simply.. Amazing. Oh, and motorize the pumps :) -

Forest Tractor images!!! http://www.technicbricks.blogspot.com/ I wont post links because Lego have very kindly allowed Technicbricks to show the images, so out of respect I haven't hotlinked the images. Looks ace!! :) And, its a different tractor to the 2009 rehash :) - Two pneumatic pistons for the crane arm - A blue airtank under the trailer? Looks like one possibly but is most likely the piping - Manual worm gear operation for the grabber - Pneumatic pump looks like its underneath the trailer (from the box image you can see an arrow pointing inwards to the back of the trailer - interesting idea) - Looks like it rotates too, wonder if that will be geared? - Possible pistons under the engine? Can't really see. I like the look of it anyway :) Maybe this means we'll get a monster of a pnematics flagship in the 2H2010 :) I actually think I am more impressed that Lego have actually released this imagery officially, you don't get many major companies doing this, they usually just say "We don't comment on rumor and speculation". Respect to TLG for that. -

I am so excited to see the Forest Tractor, and the more I think about it, the more I hope it wont be a simple rehash of the 8063 Tractor. That model is in the latest catalogue which popped through my door last week, so surely Lego wouldn't just rehash so quickly? So, its got a crane arm with grabbers on the end, so we should get perhaps TWO large pneumatics and ONE small one? By saying it can "harness the flatbed", do you think that means it can simply reach out across the bed to lay logs? And that the pneumatic pump and valves are on the back of the cab? Regarding the Buggy, it looks like it has a V4 engine. Take a look at this shot, and if you look very closely at the back of the Buggy, you can make out the two yellow pistons, which are surely matched on the other side. I zoomed in lots on the photo by the way :) -

Slightly better picture of the Excavator. http://www.legoland.cz/images/lego/technic_2010.jpg The Forest Tractor sounds great, and the return of pneumatics is brilliant :) -

I like the Excavator but the Buggy and Chopper don't look very inspiring. I hope the Forest Tractor is much more interesting.. -

Oh that looks great, even from the tiny image. I wonder if anyone caught the other images? Did they all get leaked? -
I am going to start with two apologies! Firstly, the images I have taken really aren't great quality which is annoying (I need to use something other than my iPhone to take photos), and this has come a little later than I was hoping. Anyway, on with the show! I really love the Snow Groomer, it may not have any motorisation or super fancy complexity, but it's a great model which looks superb. It's really wide and low and the tilted cab is just divine. I looked at the B model for this, and really wanted to build it, however I couldn't bring myself to take apart the lovely Groomer, so I decided to get hold of another model. I've never done that before with Lego and it felt a little cheeky :) The construction of the Arctic Tracker is much simpler than the main model, in that it doesn't have a complex plough and groomer setup to build, just basic steering and the mechanism for tilting the bed on the back of the vehicle. That said, I still enjoyed building this, and it took a little over 90 minutes to complete. Here are some (poor quality) shots of the construction: Early cab assembly: Some panels on.. Rear of cab showing "hand of God" steering setup: Cab complete: Building the trailer, with tilting mechanism viewable: Cab and Trailer connected Tipper bed attached, gearing shown: Comparisons with Snow Groomer: Parts left over (lots!) The Arctic Tracker doesn't have the same level of superb detail that it's main model has, but I think its still a decent looking machine, and the lights/grill on the front are really nicely done. I loved this model, it looks really good and for the price you get two excellent builds which are different from each other. Definitely one of the best non-motorised sets in recent years if you ask me! :)

I thought I would have a little play about with making my own models, which is something I really haven't done since I was a child. I decided to try and build a new model from one single Technics set. I went with the 2009 8256 Go Kart. It's a nice and simple model which is good for starting up. No point in taking the big bulldozer apart and trying to make something is there?! :D From the start I wanted to keep the working piston and steering, and try and cram in any other new functions too. My original idea was to make an F1 style race car, but that didn't really turn out too well. This evening I have come up with an off-road style buggy, which not only has both working piston and steering, but also has opening doors and bonnet (hood) (the vehicle is still rear engined). Here are some photos of the model. Bear in mind that I haven't used any parts that are not included in the model at retail (and there are a fair amount left out too) and the official model doesn't have that much to it anyway which is why it kinda looks bare bones. Main image Side view Front Rear Quarter shot with doors and hood open: Rear Quarter shot with doors and hood closed: As you can see there isn't much to play with from the pieces you get from the Go Kart. I enjoyed doing this and would like to have a go with a slightly larger model. Any thoughts?

I bought this the other day and I think its a great little Technics model. The raising mechanic is neat (the worm gear which works like its very big brother) and the model is very good looking. I've got it sitting next to my 8275 Bulldozer and together they look awesome! I might buy another one to go with it :)

REVIEW: 8263 Snow Groomer
tomacwhite replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I built this model this evening but against my word I didn't build the B Model first, sorry guys! However, I have ordered another one so will of course build the secondary model for that and take photos. The Snow Groomer really is a lovely model, I have totally fallen in love with the cab design, it's so slick and the way it tilts is very realistic. The model has some nice features and it feels very stiff and sturdy. It feels good value at £35 too as there are loads of parts and it's well detailed. -

TECHNIC Sets from 2010
tomacwhite replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
When I first read about these new sets, I google-image searched "Forest Tractor" and up popped that first image that Blakbird just put up. I was horrified too and I really hope they don't cheap us out and use the same model again. Surely after that Toys R Us trashy one they wouldn't, would they? And, I guess they wouldn't make the same model again so soon, right? :) I would love a big complex helicopter model, that would be ace, and I am still holding out for a new super car for the 2nd half of 2010. -
[REVIEW] 8275 Bulldozer
tomacwhite replied to Ickelpete's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yeah just adjust the small switches on the remote control; one "up" and one "down". Now when you push both levels forward, the Bulldozer will drive forward. If you're unsure still, open the lid of the box, as the polarity direction requirements for each function are pictured.
