  1. What strikes me in all of this discussion is how Christopher Nolan is approaching the heady heights of George Lucas in terms of fanboyism. He has obviously struck a cord with the masses, because anyone who disagrees with his vision of Batman and says so publicly will often be met with skepticism and the question of "Why?", accompanied by a look that suggests you are one stubbie short of a six-pack (well, at least that's my personal experience). But then I often find myself "not getting" the latest hot sensation. Harry Potter for example, I read the first book and found JK Rowlings' vision of magic just too infantile and nonsensical to read anymore, and look how astronomically well the series went. I haven't read/watched any of the Twilight incarnations, but to be honest I've hit saturation point with vampire stories. So I think maybe I should hire myself out to hollywood studios to preview movies/TV shows, and whatever I don't like, then that's the one to go for, it's bound to be a box office smash...
  2. Wow, it's cool how passionate this topic is getting. Like Sieggy, I would love a "Dead End" style Batman, with a big guy in a thin, figure-hugging suit...hmm, big guy in thin, figure-hugging suit...oh sorry...rather than the increasingly rubberised suits we're getting. I mean, really, there's no substitute for a big guy in a thin, figure-hugging suit. Why can't those big wigs in Hollywood just go down to Muscle Beach, pick up some buff, tall, good looking body builder, give him a few acting lessons, and presto, one authentic looking Batman who doesn't need fake rubberised muscles, thank you. And before I get too side-tracked by the thought of sweaty, muscular men doing bench presses on the beach, this would also add to the "realism" of Batman, which seems to be so hot right now. To me, it's far more realistic that he wears a lighter suit made of a tough, specially-made material that gives him freedom of movement than a rubber suit that looks like you'd need half-an-hour to get into...
  3. Wow, I think you summed up the set perfectly dr spock. I've been eying off the Hello Kitty sets for a while now, and feeling increasingly unclean for it (must...wash away...the sin...), but like Sieggy, have been put off by the little flaws in the paint work. But I must say, I'm blown away that the house is one solid piece...even for Mega*&%ks, that's bad. Still, the sheer cutest of the Hello Kitty fig may yet make me sheepishly purchase a small set...I'll probably wear a disguise for the occasion, like a beard or something...
  4. What better combination than Fabuland and Christmas! Thanks for sharing, Copmike, and Merry Christmas everybody!
  5. I agree Knightfall gets pretty hairy, and really, Batman pays the price for being a complete stick, but hopefully he's learnt something by the end. I really like the Jean Paul Valley character, how he's thrust into the role of Batman while having very serious issues of his own to deal with. I think the animated series capture this aspect of Batman the best. The recent Rocksteady games also do a great job of portraying Batman as "the world's greatest detective".
  6. Wow, this is really turning into a heated debate! I'll just come right out and say I don't like the Nolan Batman films, he's butchered the story too much for my taste. The characters portrayed in his movies are too far removed from their comic book origins to be recognizable. Scarecrow's too hot and hunky, so to my mind truly lacks motivation, Ra's al Ghul is, um, confusing, who knows what the hell's going on there, Joker is a complete and utter psycho (accurate) but forgets to try and be funny. And I'm sorry, but every time Micheal Caine opens his mouth, I'm expecting him to repeat his much loved line from that other famous Nolan film, The Prestige... I'm not saying Nolan is a horrible director, to the contrary, I loved The Prestige, and get goosebumps whenever I think of David Bowie as Tesla. I think the problem lies in the fact that each director increasingly feels the need to put their own indelible mark on the Batman legend, by reinterpreting well established characters and creating new stories. There are so many great stories in Batman, why can't they just pick one and do it? Knightfall would make a great two part film, and it incorporates so many characters, ah, I get excited just thinking about it... And before anyone says anything, the upcoming Batman movie could be vaguely linked to Knightfall, but without Jean Paul going steadily crazy and modifying his suit every week, it doesn't count. Okay, that's my two cents worth, sorry for wading in like that...
  7. Awesome review Sieggy, Black Phantom really does look the part, with his demonic head and accessories. The new soft plastic clip piece works a treat, making his shoulders more free to move (compared to the old, hard plastic clip). His "pet" is pretty cool too, I've always wanted something like that myself...
  8. Welcome to EB dengdeng!
  9. Gyah, lego baby Jesus is so cute!! What a great idea!
  10. Thanks for the awesome review, Masked Builder. I can't wait for the Dino sets to appear here, they look like so much fun. I love the scratch marks on the guy's head. Shame about the defective T-Rex though .
  11. That's a freaking awesome MOC Oky! Good luck in the comp!
  12. Awesome MOC ISC, you've really captured the scene, I can almost hear Piett saying "Bounty hunters, we don't need that scum here."
  13. Awesome MOC, and beautiful photography to go with it, although the whole scene left me feeling so
  14. Wow, you make very interesting vehicle MOCs! I like the evolution of machines you've got going there. Keep up the good work.
  15. Awesome work Legostein, the mini scale Hyperion looks good. B5 for the win, woot!
  16. Awesome review SilentMode. I don't know what it is about the Winter themed sets, but they just seem to have special appeal, well to me at least. Maybe it's because we don't get a lot of snow here in Australia, so any thing that features that alleged white stuff is special. I love the mini-figs, especially the blond femme-fatale, but I do feel sorry for the female postal worker. Oh, and your girls in sailor suits are just so cute, brings out the otaku in me...
  17. There's just one word to describe this set...lush. Really. I couldn't quite believe it when I first saw the photos, thinking it had to be a compilation of at least two sets, to include so many mini-figs. Although this does seem to be the growing trend with Lego these days, to be absurdly generous with figs, it still seems too good to be true to me. So if I'm dreaming, please don't wake me up...
  18. Awesome MOC Legostein, really, that's unmistakably a Star Fury. Ah, it's great to see B5 get some love. I personally prefer the design of the Earth Alliance ships, particularly the ones featuring rotating sections, although I'm also quite partial to Narn cruisers (just a shame they almost always get blown up on the show ).
  19. I don't care what the box says, if I was getting married again, that would be going on the cake baby! It's just too cute.
  20. Awesome review Inconspicuous! Wow, I really wish they could justify bringing back into production that moulded baseplate, it has so much potential. The broken-up ship being integrated into the island is such a cool concept, and there's such an impressive array of traps and pitfalls.
  21. Welcome to EB, Cave Bear!
  22. Awesome MOC getdamonkey! Really brings back memories. Seriously, I sometimes think that Kevin Smith should have stopped at this movie, all his other efforts for me just don't match the spontaneity of "Clerks". Silent Bob is perfect, and while Jay's definitely on the girly side, he's still identifiable. Good stuff.
  23. I almost fell over with excitement when I saw this thread. Dino Attack (poxy name given to the Australian release) was awesome. I just hope they put a little more work into the dinosaurs this time...
  24. This is awesome news. I don't know why, but to me Lego and space exploration seem to go hand in hand. It'd be cool if they could make some more of these and sell them as uber rare collector items...
  25. Awesome MOC Legostein. I love how you've made something so different out of those two sets, and I do have a fondness for submarines...not sure why... Well, keep up the good work.
