Heroica: Glory Amongst The Stars - General Discussion
Duvors replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in Heroica! The RPG!
@Classic_Spaceman, please do not ask for tangible resources outside of a mission. You can buy things at the Bazaar and ask for information in the Library, but asking to be given tools for the mission when it hasn't even started yet is outside what's permissible - especially as you don't even know if you've been chosen to go yet. You can trust WBD to already have methods lined up for you to get on the train, considering that the mission wouldn't function otherwise. -

Great stuff! I should note though that Proficiencies granted by Smarts start at 1. Having 0 points in a proficiency is equivalent to not having it at all. -

It's kind of important to list your weapon's type in its stats, and weapons can only have one type at the moment. -
Splitting them up would be nice, though we'd have to make some decisions about which category to put each into, a lot of these fall into multiple categories. The class creation process essentially boils down to 'here's a cool idea, can we make it work without making it redundant with the other classes'. I've just noticed that the second Traits of both the Blade Sage and Gunslinger are essentially worse versions of the Warrior's first one, which is kind of bad. It's funny you should mention proficiencies, as the way those are distributed among the classes has been bothering me for a while. To explain, here's a list of all the proficiencies and the number of classes they give access to: Acrobatics - 6 Arcana - 6 Artillery - 3 Athletics - 8 Coding - 3 Culture - 2 Deception - 5 Engineering - 4 Explosives - 2 Insight - 8 Intimidation - 6 Long Range Weapons - 4 Medicine - 7 Melee Weapons - 6 Nature - 8 Occult - 7 Perception - 7 Performance - 5 Persuasion - 7 Piloting - 1 Religion - 8 Short Range Weapons - 3 Sleight of Hand - 5 Stealth - 4 Survival - 7 Technology - 6 As you can see, the numbers are all over the place, and there are clear winners and losers.

All lego animals molded in black have eyes like that. It's significantly more subtle than it used to be however.

Cool. Is there a specific way to report untoward behavior though? I'm sort of ignorant on the subject.

Some jackass just made a fake 'Peppermint M' account. How do I report them?

@Waterbrick DownWhile you're doing things, do you think you can update that FAQ thing I submitted to reflect the existence of a proper artificial life entry in the Library? -

(OOC: I hope nobody minds, but this response just popped into my head.) "Uhhh... no? Heroica is paid separately by the contractors when they accept a mission. Did someone tell you you have dues to pay? 'Cause you're probably getting scammed." -

Okay, let me see if I can explain it more clearly: Your basic stats are called Attributes, they determine the capabilities of your character in a general sense. They are Vitality, Velocity, Strength, Skill, Smarts, and Spirit. Attributes that begin with a V grant something to the character (Health/Speed respectively) equal to their score. Attributes that begin with an S grant something indirectly to the character as well as their direct benefits. Strength, Skill, and Smarts give you a free point in something for every 2 points the Attribute is increased by. Strength gives you 1 free Vitality, Skill gives you 1 free Velocity, Smarts gives you 1 new Proficiency of your choice that you automatically have one point in (the 'rank 1' you saw). Each of those three also give you access to better weapons at various levels (3 points, 5 points, 7 points) with each damage type being associated with a different attribute (Strength-Kinetic, Skill-Energy, Smarts-Elemental). The weakest quality of weapon requires no score. Armor of all types requires a Strength score that increases at the same rate, with the difference that you need at least 2 in Strength to use the weakest quality of armor. Spirit is different in several ways, you start with 0, you can know 1 Spell for every 1 Spirit, and you spend varying amounts of Spirit to cast spells at different levels. Proficiencies are your D&D style skills, though they aren't associated with specific Attributes. You can either buy a Proficiency at rank 1 for the appropriate amount of points, or you can get it for free by increasing Skill, but spending CP is the only way to increase a Proficiency above 1. The currency you spend to upgrade Attributes and Proficiencies is called Character Points. Increasing Attributes costs 2 CP for every +1 to the Attribute. Increasing Proficiencies works the same way spending Gold to improve Armor and Weapons worked last game minus the 'multiply by 10' part. While the concept of an alchemy subsystem was discussed briefly in the Discord, currently no such system exists and likely won't for a while. You can certainly role-play as a scientist, but any inventions and concoctions you make would have no mechanical effect. The closest thing to what you're describing is the grenade system in the Bazaar, and you could certainly fluff buying things in the Bazaar as buying individual components and building the final product yourself. As for advancement, aside from increasing Attributes and Proficiencies and learning spells, there's not a lot at the moment. The class system is still under construction in the Discord. If anyone would like to involve themselves in that process directly, PM WBD. Somewhat unrelatedly, I definitely want a vehicle combat system at some point. I have some vague ideas related to movement and turning, but I intend to wait until the first three missions are over before diving into development. Excellent! And @Waterbrick Down has already beaten me to the punch. In light of WBD's response, I should probably clarify that what I was talking about was creating items between missions. -

Glad to see another returning face! I wouldn't mind throwing something together for you, but my collection is rather limited so keep that in mind. -

A pretty major influence on Enson's character is my desire to pay someone distinct from Throlar. I can say that it's a refreshing experience. -

Nice to see you here! As to your questions... The written lore is the full extent of the current 'cannon'. The setting (including existing setting elements) is designed to be expanded by players and members over time, even if those expansions never make it into a 'official' Library entry. In fact part of the Library's purpose is to host lore entries written by players, which they are free to post directly into the topic itself should they wish to. As for backstories, there is no official place to host them or even a requirement to have one really. If you want you can have one in your entry in the Statistical Registry, you can have one on your Eurobricks user profile, or you can keep it to yourself until revealing it in character. -

@Khorne One final thing to remember is that Spirit is the only attribute that gives you its benefit for every +1 you put in instead of every +2. -

And I just found out that the customizable kit in the rules includes 'calbirated'. We can't catch a break can we? Edit: "Standard Target Numbers Basd..." ^#$%&@! DAMMIT. And the explanation of what Strength does has 'Knetic' and the Engineer kit has 'Elmental'. Edit again: In Equipment, 'succssefully' In Essence of Glibness 'persuassion'. -

@Waterbrick Down A new question for the FAQ: Q: How much 'fluff' do I have to read beforehand? A: As much as we'd like to say 'none', that's unfortunately false. We recommend you read at least the Startravel and the Æthergates and Ætherspace entries in the Library. If you're playing an existing species, we recommend reading their entry in the Embassy, as even standard species (Elves, Dwarves, Humans) have some different assumptions here. If you want to incorporate AI into your character or their backstory, the Adamite entry in the same thread explains how the setting handles that. -

The different weapon types have to do with how armor works. Each weapon type has a corresponding armor type, if a person's armor is the same type as the weapon attacking them they gain a flat bonus to their defense roll equal to the armor's quality. And, while I was hesitant to ask this before you brought it up, it would be nice to have some diagrams for the Pluravvian and League governments (I believe you did the one for Oleon in BotBS and I found it very impressive). And, sorry to leave this till last, I'm glad to see you again. -

The foods of this universe are very peripheral to the need-to-know category that main library entries are intended for. If a player wants to write a 'common dishes' entry they're free to do so, but that's 'soft cannon' that no-one is obliged to adhere to. Really, they're just words on a screen - 'fluff' if you will. I personally enjoyed it, but my character isn't present to interact with the scene. -
