  1. cool !!! and good luck. what are some of your plans for this HARD CORE of EB, as far as the space forum goes ??? (maybe this question should be posted in the space forum X-O ) HA !!! very funny snefore :-D :-D :-D but that wouldn't be very appropriate, putting a space tag for me... as i don't think i've contributed to any thread in that forum !!! :-P so do you think this could be a good idea, gylman ???however, if it every were to happen, you couldn't get a "castle" only tag... as the forum that castle is included in is the "History and Adventure" Forum... so, if the tags were according to your forum "affiliation" (based on your favorite theme), then your tag would include Castle, Knights Kingdom, Adventurers, Wild West, and Vikings. would that still be cool ??? sounds like we might be on to somthing here.
  2. i agree, i don't like all of this ranking talk. and i personally think the pirate forum is in way too deep. but then again, the pirate forum is really exploding right now. only time will tell. so for now, i guess i just don't know :'-( i think its great to have a favorite theme, as i've noticed most of us do here. i think a simple icon under each avatar could be a cool visual graphic. kind of affiliating each member to a forum if he or she wishes. i know id like a little History & Adventure tag, and it sounds like a couple of you might like a Theater icon. it seems a little Classic Space icon appears under a few of our members names... maybe this idea is already being fleshed out ??? if not, what does it mean ??? and sorry if this is being discussed in another thread, but i haven't seen it yet 8-| so, snefore1... are you in charge of the space forum now ??? or have you been, and i just didn't notice :-$
  3. is the OE game still up at lego.com ??? i've not seen it. also, brickster, i see you've brought back your "adventurers" themed signature. any reason ??? i thought i might see a massive city or batman sig from you next ;-)
  4. wow 8-
  5. this reminds me of something very similar that happened in the comic book world... ex-president of marvel comics, bill jemas, left the company to start a licensing company. he saw that licensing the intellectual property of the marvel heroes was far more profitable than actually publishing the books. that is why you see a boat load of "spiderman-this-and-spiderman-that" in markets other than comic books. band-aids, birthday party plates, cereal... i mean, everything !!! sounds to me like most entertainment companies are realizing the intellectual property is far more valuable than the actual material that is bought and sold. in bill jemas case, comics... in our case here, lego bricks. i think this is just the natural evolution of a company. and we are realizing the evolution happen before us... as i don't think that it existed 10-15 years ago. - BrickMiner
  6. so, which vote is yours Brickster ??? im curious your thoughts.
  7. well, i guess i should post here... as i would definitely consider myself a pirate fan !!! X-D and although, the wild west is superior in set design ;-) the imperial red coats and islander minifigs are spectacular works of art. islanders rank 3rd fav for me out of all the theme/sub-theme categories, only to be topped out by cowboys/bandits (1st) and adventuers/desert (2nd). however, i don't think all of the pirate kingdom is great... as i don't care too much for the later pirates of 96-97. - BrickMiner
  8. another great cross-themed poll by the brickster !!! i'll have you know, the crocodile is my favorite LEGO animal !!! right next to the classic horse. so this poll is really neat for me... i love to see how the crocodie has crossed genres since its debute in the ISLANDERS. my favorite croc set would have to remain true to the roots, the tiki influenced pirate sub-theme. and of those sets, crocodile cage is my top choice. it not very often that a small set can hold its own, and i feel 6246 really delivers. forbidden cove 6246 is next for me, but it doesn't feature the croc as well as the cage does. the huge moai face seems to over power the coolness of the crocodile in that set. - BrickMiner
  9. ya, i didn't notice at first... and i know i took your "stockade" thread way too seriously. my mistake. i was just trying to offer advice, and see your point. :-D my story involves dreams about LEGOs that just wouldn't stop without satisfing them. i posted it in my "about me thead" (link in my signature). and i agree, it is really amazing how we return to what we enjoyed as children. and i think it is even more important, that AFOL have the courage to do it. not all people do, i think its sad.-BrickMiner
  10. ya, i've looked at those green shutters too. the ones that are 3x5... that would give me a 4 stud walk way. but i can find a piece that will hold the shutters other than the window frame your suggesting. plus, that would be two really tall saloon doors... i mean, 5 bricks high !!!the best piece would be the window shutter 1x2x4. they look just like saloon doors. but im still not into the 2 stud walkway. if i was just MOCing with no rules than maybe... but i just can't convince myself that this is the technique that LEGO would have applied. but thanks for you imput brickster, on which of the above techniques you liked best. by the way, regarding that saloon you posted... i think its funny that the sign has a period after the word "saloon." :-D :-D :-D - BrickMiner
  11. wow, i've never thought to put westerns in perspective like this... your a very smart man brickster !!! it's hard to argue the other way, after realizing this !!! see, i've always been told that westerns were VERY popular in europe, it was hard for me to comprehend. but now it makes a lot of sense !!! i shouldn't say too much,... but its my next MOC !!! *sweet* *sweet* *sweet*
  12. i know this topic is written for Phes (as it says so in the title) but i can't help but think you are refering to me here that is pretty cool, that you mentioned all of this,... FIRST !!!i hope that is a symbol of my contributions here to EB... and that i am adding something significant to this community. i am having a lot of fun here. im just so glad my job leaves me so much time for my hobby !!! cross my fingers that i can keep this up !!! as Phes mentioned you are great with words... your contributions make EB so much more enjoyable than they would be without you !!! NOTE: when you get back into WW we should tag-team on a project. you on words, and me on images. but i can't help but ask... what is the true nature of this post ??? in all honesty this should be a PM !!! obviously, it is to start some converstions that other EB members would benefit from (entertainment wise, of course) - BrickMiner
  13. i agree with you snefroe1. i think poor sets design, and handling of the sub-theme was why the indian sets failed... not because of movies. however, i DON'T think that is why the theme was canceled. there were still a lot of possibilities in the theme... like a ghost town sub-theme. no political issues there.i would still like to think that movies are not the ONLY thing driving interest in entertainment in today's culture. i think if the indians sets would have been designer better, it wouldn't matter the state of HOLLYWOOD westerns. they still would have been better sets !!! as brickster brought up, these are some of the most detailed figs LEGO ever produced. don't think that helps. as i said before, the islanders were a much better sub-theme, and they are less detailed, and have less overall minifigs (only three as opposed to five). because of the path that LEGO took with the indians, it really limited the set design... i mean, how many different ways can you build an indian village ??? with the cowboy/bandit line, we had a gold mining town, a calvery fort, a bandit hideout, covered wagon, basically A LOT OF DIFFERENT old west themes. with the indian sets, we saw villages, that is it. with no conflict to play out. actually, these sets seem out of character for the WW theme... as mentioned above... each cowboy set seemed to explore very unique themes. each of the indian sets don't seem to carry this uniqueness. they seem more like the islander set of the pirates, where LEGO just built sets based on market needs. for example, 6246 exists because LEGO needed a set somewhere around the 10 USD mark. we see 6264 because LEGO needed a mid-sized set for around 30 USD. well, same goes for the indian sets... nothing unique, LEGO just needed a wide range of dollar value sets. while there is nothing wrong with this technque, it is very different from the cowboy/bandit sets that initialized the WW theme. each of those sets exist for a reason. to cover the calvery concept, to cover the gold mining town concept, to cover the covered wagon concept, etc... also, each of the islander sets came with at least one pirate (in most sets) to create some conflict. LEGO successfully mimicked this with the cowboy/bandits conflict. but the indians don't include any villains, which leads to some boring sets. in short, i think the indian sets are out of character for the theme that LEGO established with the cowboys/bandits. and where cowboys/bandits were successful (because of conflict), the indians failed. howver, that doesn't mean we can't create some great MOCs with the pieces LEGO provided us - BrickMiner
  14. their Ebay banner had star wars iconography ALL OVER IT... so i gather that they are heavy into buying and selling star wars LEGO. hence the name, imperial (reference to SW) TRADING post.to me that equates to "star wars trading." which is the company's cash crop, as is with most LEGO sellers. and, again, explains their banner. although, im not the seller... and this is only a perception. ;)
  15. IMPERIAL trading post probably refers to STAR WARS not PIRATES !!! :-D same here... i've never bought anything from their BrickLink store or their Ebay store cause its just too over priced.- BrickMiner
  16. it seems these images were shared in this threadhttp://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=4611 Phes, could you be refering to this one ??? - BrickMiner
  17. No problem. Definately a great use for the torsos (esp. Alfred). His face also has a nice Wild West gambler's look. yes, alfred's face is a prefect match for a card shark of the ole west... but i'd have a problem mixing that flesh colored head with the classic yellow minifig heads !!! just wouldn't blend well.thats just too bad. |-/ thats just too bad. >:-(
  18. well, this topic is in the pirate forum now, not the castle forum... so the thread is now bias, and should not be taken as 100% accurate.especially when you consider Phes' new pirate fan acquisition thread. the whole idea would bring pirate fans directly to this thread, but castle fans woud be left over at CC. i believe most castle talk goes on at CC, not EB. so it would appear pirates are more talked about, if this is the only forum you read.but remember, all the above are only facts... not opinions. I VOTED PIRATES !!! *y* *y* *y* - BrickMiner
  19. the actual digitally-made-from-scratch sky and ground was the quickest thing to make... i'd say maybe a half-hour. the part that took forever was taking the digital photos of the MOC and erasing the background !!! that took near 12 hours for all the images you see in this thread !!!here is a shot of just the background that you are asking about... again, probably 20-30 minutes. really just a series of colors fading in-and-out of each other. this brings up an interesting thought... see, its obvious AFOLs spend a lot of time on their MOCs... and its very evident in the multiple thousand piece castles on CC. however, just as much time can be spent on making your MOC look gorgeous in the digital world, which is ultimately the finished piece. at least to the rest of the world via mocpages.com, brickshelf, and on forums like EB. that is where a lot of my efforts go. so where as im not building the biggest-and-the-best western fort , i think it
  20. yes, the islanders !!! i agree, though (as much as i hate to admit it) the islanders were a much better sub-theme to the pirates, than the indians were to the WW.still, the painted horses of the indians are very VERY cool!!! im glad you enjoy the WW theme dJOLe_sk8. thanks for sharing, and feel welcome to participate in its discussion here !!! and by the way, welcome to EuroBricks !!! - BrickMiner
  21. thanks for the info snefroe1 !!! much appriciated !!! what does this mean... "limited production" ???anyone else have any comments on bricklink and the prices of these torsos ???
  22. the above work is not PRO work at all. just fun (personal) stuff for me :-P i probably wont mention/post any pro work i have done on this message board. see, i really just wanted to show EBers some of my applied experience in photoshop and illustrator. so, if a memeber has a question about digital imagery (with an artistic eye), i could be a resource for answers. this has already come up a little in my MOC thread. i didn't sign up and participate in EB to promote my projects... i just want to enjoy my hobby and help it grow. if that means sharing some of my knowledge from other aspects of my life, then of course, i'll do it !!! im the penciler/inker on the above pieces, i didn't do the colors. that is funny you mention RAMOS, as his work on "spectacular spiderman" 1-15 was a major influence on the above spidey work, and all of my spidey work since creating it !!! he is amazing, and im glad to hear his work is appriciated in germany as well !!!thanks for expressing your interest in comics ApophisV !!! X-D X-D X-D and thanks to everone for the praise, i really appriciate it, as i am very proud of the work i do !!! :-$ - BrickMiner
  23. :-D :-D :-D well, i guess !!!
  24. i couldn't have said it better !!!the ability to imagine is one of the most unique qualities that makes us human... LEGO satisfies so many requirements in realizing a life of fulfillment... identifying a challenge and over coming it... experiencing joy from problem solving... taking pride in creating... i mean, the list goes on... LEGO fulfills some of the most basic principals of human satisfaction. well, at least, that is what LEGO means to me... - BrickMiner
