  1. Greetings! I absolutely love this set! The detail is amazing in everyway and I have a nice "old town" in my layout. I like the gas station the most, especially with the classic gas pumps and the nice curved trans-clear window in the front of the building...very retro! Also, I like the modern car wash also. This reminds me of a older gas station in my town that had one of the garages converted into a modern car wash without compromising the originality of the building. The theatre was a very close second, the details are just amazing on that building as well!
  2. Greetings! I had to make a choice a couple weeks back to purchase this set or the bigger post-office set (#6362) from an earlier time and opted to buy the latter (#6362). The basis was that the latter was bigger but the downside was that it only had one mini-fig. Still, a very nice review!
  3. Greetings! Nice review! This was one of my first sets I had as a kid and kept through my "dark era" I have since revived my interest in lego, epecially classic town and some of the new town sets that can "fit" in the classic town landscape. Great set
  4. Greetings! I was thinking about an idea like that to. I had thought of originally applying the sticker and then yusing a very sharp pin knife, I would cut in between the tiles to give it a more "projected on painted wood boards" look like so many of the drive-in before.
  5. Greetings! Thank you very much for the tip on posting the pictures (rookie mistake). I think I am now getting the hang of it! Once again, thank you!
  6. Greetings! That is a very nice fire truck!
  7. Greetings! I have been admiring so many nice creations from the creative brick heads of this site and figured I would jump of a ledge and try one of my own. As the title description says, this is a work in progress (which looks better than it did two weeks ago) and will hopefully look more detailed in the future as I am not done just yet. So without further adew, on to the My First Own Creation! The creation is broken down into four modules that have a distinct role in the legendary Drive-In setting. Most older generations will recall a time when people could drive their vehicle into an arena-like setting and park it while watching a movie on a monstrous big screen made of wood or canvas: The arena (as mentioned before) was littered with equally spaced intercom boxes so that food could be ordered such as popcorn or candy from the concession: The concession stand was usually on the bottom floor while the projection room was on the second floor: The projection room would have such great movie titles like this one: "Attack of the Alien Moon Stalker" Drive-In patrons would be greeted by the ticket master in a booth just outside of the arena: Lastly, all of this would not be possible without the lure of a sign telling the people what fine entertainment is in store for them: Work Still to be Done: While there are still many things I want to do with this MOC I have the basis finally built. In the future I plan to add some cars in the layout as the speaker posts are spaced equally enough to allow for the traditional 4-stud wide classic cars. I was even thinking about putting more "vintage" vehicles into the lot (similar to 10184 Town Plan blue car). Also, the ticket booth will be color coordinated with the rest of the layout (black & white) and the concession will have more details like a popcorn machine and a refrigerator. The billboard will have custom decals on both sides indicating what is showing (similar to 10184 Town Plan Cinema) and the big screen will have a custom decal with a similar picture of the "Attack of the Alien Moon Stalker" as previously shown. Because what drive-in movie place would not have a cheesy outer space invasion thriller showing!? So, in conclusion, there is still a little bit more that needs to be done and I will update when needed. I hope you all enjoyed My First Own Creation and hopefully this has not been to drawn out. Thank you
  8. I am with you all the way on this issue. I too, would have loved to have seen a post office, hotel, or even a grocery store! I know the one bank that they made in the 80's is worth a fortune because no one bought it and the post office sets seem to be pretty scarce too. I have postal vehicles but no post office (short of building one myself). In all fairness, I hope TLG is just throwing out some "possible" sets for 2010 and that these aren't finalized. Are they?
  9. Greetings! I absolutely love your city layout! Very Nice! I tried sending you a PM hope you have received it.
  10. Greetings! Nice little kiosk design! I think it would go great within a major metro area.
  11. Greetings! I love the water idea! It looks a lot more realistic and with a little wooden boat and a fisherman you would be in business!
  12. 1. The Futuron Monorail Set 2. Easily the Vestas 4999 Promotional 3. The worst thing done to my bricks was using an xacto-knife to "modify" the parts...it sucked when rebuilding the sets 4. Still working on my first MOC, hopefully will have it done by the end of next month 5. Anyone of the 9V train sets from the early 90's 6. The one currently being built 7. Hopefully not the one I am building 8. Probably the mini-fig scale roller coaster that I found on a website a few months ago
  13. Greetings! I am new to this forum so if this is a violation to the forum rules please let me know or discard. I just believe that fellow brickheads should be informed. Just recently I decided to go to my favorite parts depot (bricklink) to see if I could obtain parts for a future project that I am doing. As some of you will know, parts availability in some of the bricklink stores are sporatic at best and so sometimes it is a good thing to contact the store to see if you can "reserve" the parts. One particuliar store (will name it to people who ask) was a bit rude to say the least when all I asked is if the parts could be part of an open inventory for more than the usual seven days. I am sure some of you guys have a limit on what you can spend per month and I stated this in the following paragraph: "Greetings! I would like to request that this invoice be open until the 6th of August as I do really want these parts but am waiting till next month to be able to use my "alotted lego funds." I believe I can keep an invoice open for up to two weeks. Please see my feedback file if you have any doubts and let me know if this is not possible. Thank you" I in return received this: "Buyer does not have enough funds to pay "Hold Order Open" should not be misconstrued as "Layaway." Also, it states clearly under the option for "Hold Order Open" that you may hold an order open for 7 days not because you are waiting for money, but because you may add additional items. We are uncertain as to why you would think 14 days is acceptable. Please come back when you are prepared to buy, not tie up our inventory." I believe that it would have been acceptable just to tell me that they could not do it. I did not need to be lectured and have a volume of text thrown at me. In addition to the unessecary tongue lashing, this person proceeded to lock me out of the store until the 6th of August without even leeting me have a chance to apologize for supposedly bothering them. I think IMHO that this person's customer skills need to be improved. If it is any consilation, this person just lost a $13.00 order. Once again, I don't mean to drag the forum down with negativity but I just wanted to let the fellow brickhead buyers in on what they could expect if they buy from this store.
  14. Greetings! Great review to start out with, I liked your comparison with the more detailed buildings. I have been tossing around the idea of purchasing one of these town plan sets as I am an avid fan of the 50's look. I personally think that this set will be ideal for my town as I never have been a huge fan of the modular building sets (they seem too spendy and maybe, dare I say, too detailed). This does not mean I don't admire the detail, but I like the classic town layouts better as to each their own. The reveiw was still a great one none the less and has further made me want the town plan set. I believe this set will go great as an "old town" section by the old steam (my own train) locomotive set. Thank you
  15. Greetings! Very nice modern design of a classic shell truck! I must say I like yours better!
  16. Greetings! Nice job with that post office, i know I have been looking for one of the post office sets that lego offered in the 80's but I would jump at the chance to buy one that looked as modern as yours. Nice work!
  17. Greetings! Very nice review and nice pictures too! I have to say that this is a pretty good public offering for lego fans. I have considered picking up a set to go with the vestas one to start up a windfarm so my town can be semi-green
  18. Greetings! Thank you for sharing your set with us and nice review! I have always wanted one of those metroliner sets....maybe one day.
  19. Greetings! I think this set is wonderful! However, I am not a big fan of what lego has done to change the vehicle designs (call me old fashioned). I am so used to having the smaller vehicles in my city layout. Because it is a bus it might be more allowable as a bus is suppose to be bigger. I know from when I got the Vestas set #4999 the van that came with it was pretty cool but it stuck out like a sore thumb in my layout. But enough ranting about the vehicle! I think this set looks great, it gives a town a little more of a realistic inter-city feeling. I would love to have this set and maybe I could modify the bus like I did the mail van so it will look more in place!
  20. Greetings! Good looking scaled mini! That is a fun set!
  21. Greetings! I would have to say thank you for the replies too! I am new to the 9v train game and it is good to know some useful tips to keep it running!
  22. Greetings! i am new to this forum and noticed this section on the site! I recently bought the Lego Express set #4534. I have been having a blast with this set. However, eventually I want to be able to make a town layout like I have seen with so many of the members in this forum. In order to do so, I am left searching for the last piece I will need to make the layout complete and that is a train level crossing. I am looking for Lego set # 4532-1, 4539-1, or 10218-1. The last set seems almost completly un-obtainable as the price has skyrocketed beyond my checkbook. Either one of the three sets mentioned will do but the only thing I ask is that the stickers and parts all be present. An instruction mannual is not required. I have tried searching far and wide but are either dealt with expensive shipping costs or expensive sets. I would be willing to go as high as $55 usd and even more depending on condition of set and shipping charges. Please let me know if anyone is interested by contacting me at str8226@yahoo.com. Thank you and happy building! Vestasbuyer
  23. Greetings! That is a nice train, it seems that it looks like something Lego should have already came out with.
  24. Greetings! For it being a forced design, it still looks really good. I think it fits well with the settings.
  25. Greetings! Very nice work on the train car and thank you for sharing the pictures of the final result!
