I saw all of the space sets on Monday at the LEGO Store downtown, but blew my wad on grab bags. The Space Center looked very nice and I thought the price was reasonable ($70) especially when compared to the Harbor ($90)

Those all look fantastic! I've always thought of Blacktron to be the "Borg" of LEGO Space, so it's exciting to see old classic sets assimilated like that. I can really appreciate your "old school" building style- I build very much the same way. It can be challenging with all those shiny new parts lying around! I'm looking forward to seeing more in the future!

That looks great! The jail pod is perfect- thank you for posting these, I've enjoyed them all. I think the Starfleet Voyager is my favorite. I really hope you do more!

Thank you for the review! I picked this set up last week at the LEGO Store downtown. This was the only one out of the space theme available, which is probably a good thing since I'm an impulse buyer! I voted Above Average- I think it's a cheap way to get a nifty space shuttle loaded with features. Sure it could use booster rockets and extra crew, but I know that would kick it up into the $40-50 price range. I rejoiced when I discovered the wings were real plates and not another giant piece. In fact, I felt like I was building Classic Space during the first few steps! All in all, a very nice set for the price. In case anyone was wondering, here's the shuttle riding in style on top of the CITY Passenger Jet. It is very secure- nice and swooshable. I can even turn it upsidedown without the shuttle falling off!

Thank you for this review! I'm currently going through a Classic Town bender, and reading your current reviews is just adding fuel to the fire! I voted outstanding- the bright yellow really stands out and three great Mini-figures. The antenna with no receiver is strange, but I think there is a 1x2 tile with a CB radio print that could be used. Although I've never officially owned this set, I recently assembled one out of my spare parts- it's interesting putting together a 17 year old set for the first time. Looking forward to more reviews-thanks again!

Thank you for showing these pics, kris! I will pass on the Truck & Speedboat as I have plenty of large trucks in Otisburg. The Marina looks good but not spectacular. Is that a new 2x2 corner piece directly underneath the umbrella? Regarding the CITY Brickmaster book, it looks like we get a copter that will fit on the heli-pad in 7498.

Used my Christmas money today and took advantage of the big half-off sale at the LEGO store- Got the CITY Garage, Train Track assortment, AAT, Pirate Tank, and (not on sale) Bank & Money Transfer. I love hauls like that!

Thank you for the review! I love Classic Space and I love reading Classic Space reviews! The original Blacktron is one of my favorites- the black & yellow color scheme totally did it for me. I remember seeing the sets first in a catalog and thinking, "Woah! Villians!" With their visors down, the Minifigures actually looked sinister, a first for LEGO at the time. The Invader was my first Blacktron set. I bought it at Sears for $11.99, which was comparable to other stores at the time. I really liked the modularity of the Blacktron theme- all three original sets were interchangeable, which added even more to this great theme. I believe my Invader was responsible for more Monorail attacks than any other ship in my fleet!

3661 Bank & Money Transfer has 405 pieces. The LEGO Store did not have it, but I was able to get a copy of the January Shop at Home catalog. It's in there, but no Police Chase set.

If you do nice things, nice things will happen to you. Today I donated some Star Wars toys and some Lego to Toys for Tots. On my way home I stopped at a thrift store to look around and found a 1200 pc. blue tub for $3. When I opened it to make sure there was actually Lego inside, I saw a 32x32 blue baseplate, #697 Idea Book complete with sticker sheet, and ALL of the mini-figs from #7190 Millennium Falcon! So get out there and do something nice- you will be rewarded!

What was your first major City/Town building?
Galaxy Explorer replied to exon_from_youtube's topic in LEGO Town
My first Town building was 590 Engine Co. No. 9. I remember saving my allowance for weeks to get this set. It cost me $18.99 at Target in the summer of 1980. I felt like I was in heaven! Green baseplates, hinge bricks, a round tree, just amazing! That set kicked off my 30 year obsession with Town-CITY. I sealed the deal later that year on my birthday when my Grandma got me Main Street! -
The computer piece in the new police station is printed- not a sticker. I wasn't sure if that was new or not. I was surprised to see it, though.

Guys, I am really sorry, I've got the new Police Station and really would like to do a review, but for some reason my pc will not transfer photos from my camera. I feel awful, because I know a lot of you are wanting to see a review. I'm going to dinner tomorrow at a friend's place and will take my camera with me and try to post something then. Yes, there is a new bone piece for the dog, and a yellow dish. There is also a 1x2 plate with a clip that I haven't seen before. So with a little luck I'll have a review up sometime tomorrow!
-
I took lots of pictures when I built the thing, so that might be something I could do tomorrow. I have a love-hate relationship with my camera & PC so things don't always work out for me, but I'll give it a shot! I'm actually surprised no one has reviewed any new City sets yet, but I'll bet the floodgates will open pretty soon.

Yes, between TRU and the Lego Store here in Chicago I've seen all of the new police sets- in fact I picked up the Police Station Friday evening and assembled it. I really like it. Lots of detail and the building looks better than the last one, IMO. I'm not quite sold on the boat yet, but we'll see.

Plain and simple: the ad should not say all when all is not included. A better way to make it more clear would be to say "BOGO on select lego themes" and then list those themes. Seems pretty clear to me! Now let me ask you this, fred67- Do you just collect LEGO Star Wars? If so, that sucks because TRU really jacks those prices up. However, if you go for CITY and other themes, then use that coupon!! After reading your rant (which I feel was completely justified) I went to my local TRU here in Chicago and found the new Police Station for $100, and then saw the Public Transport on sale for $80. Using the coupon knocked the price of the Transport down to $40! Hell of a deal!! So hopefully you can get some good out of this bad experience! Good luck!

That is really cool! I believe the Starfleet Voyager was my first "big" space set, and one of my favorites. I like how your cargo hold actually works- well done!

I've been on TV a few times when I lived in Iowa. All were local news stories about my interest in Star Wars. Twice when the Special Editions were released in 1997, and twice when The Phantom Menace premiered in 1999. Those were a lot of fun and I got to be a local celebrity for a bit!

Good job! I hope the interior has a shrine with Pamela Voorhees' head surrounded by Jason's other victims! I think the roof would look better with a window, IMO. And yes, I don't like the fact Halloween doesn't stick around for a few days like Christmas! Still a very good haunted house.

Thank you for an excellent review! I voted "above average" simply because I'm really not that much into racing themed sets. When this set was released, it seemed the U.S. got all the racing sets, while other places were getting post offices, banks, vacation homes, and other fantastic town sets which I would have loved to add to my town. I still think that this is a great little set, and would make a nice little add-on to 6395 Victory Lap Raceway, which ironically, I own (hey, I got it for nineteen bucks, so I couldn't pass it up). I think it would have been nice to have a printed torso, but considering the amount of printed pieces already included I guess I can't complain.

I've collected LEGO for a long time now, and I've been pretty lucky finding deals. I'd have to say clearances at Target have been my best hauls, especially in the 90's. My first really BIG deal happened in 1986, when I found 6080 King's Castle for $19! I learned quickly to check every Target in my area, and usually was rewarded. In 1994 I was lucky enough to find 6286 Skull's Eye Schooner for $33, over half-off! My Best. Deal. Ever. came to me in 1992, when I stumbled upon a 6399 Airport Shuttle for $40, plus the accessory track for $7. That one still makes me tingle a bit! I've had lots of good luck over the years and even recently, but those few I mentioned really stick out for me.

Mmmm, Classic Town! It's great to see all those wonderful sets together. I wish I had the space to do that, but unfortunately right now I can only do a 6x4 baseplate layout. The freeway with the large traffic sign looks great! I also really like your expanded airport, something I've been wanting to do for a while. You've done a great job landscaping, too! Lots of trees really add to a layout. Some of your photos remind me of the old catalogs, which is nice to see. Thanks for sharing!

The Kaadu itself is six bricks tall and the "feather" tubes are nine bricks tall for a total height of sixteen bricks. It looks around five or six inches tall as well. Hope that helps a bit. By the way, nice review. I've always liked this set-the Gungan warrior is one of my favorite Star Wars mini-figs. I would have liked a second one included instead of yet another Jar-Jar, but luckily I found lots of these sets discounted making it easy to build up a small army.

That's very funny! I have the T-shirt you are talking about. A friend gave it to me last Christmas. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for a very nice review! I think this is my most anticipated set this year. I saw a couple of these on the shelf at Target yesterday, but held back since I'd rather pick it up at the Lego Store and use my VIP points. I don't mind the color scheme, but I hope we see more different colored houses in the future. The interior of this house is pretty impressive, although a small bathroom would have been nice. Overall, this looks like a nicely balanced set (plenty on the outside, plenty on the inside) and I'm looking forward to adding this to Otisburg.
