Potential LEGO Scooby-Doo comeback in 2020?
Blondie-Wan replied to MatthewRC's topic in LEGO Licensed
Wait, what? Aren’t there “standard” Pops of both Marvel and Star Wars characters? I’d swear those are two of the biggest franchises they do Pops in. And yes, I know the bobbleheads are different, but aren’t there both?- 87 replies

LEGO Ideas Discussion
Blondie-Wan replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I was going to vote, but didn’t; I couldn’t decide which to vote for (I think I supported all four projects their first times around). I’ll be happy to see the ISS, though. -
I’d be happy with that if they used it for Pixar and Lucasfilm, say (so that we’d get more of Pixar’s movies represented, each year’s Star Wars assortment might also include an Indiana Jones set or even a Willow set, etc.). But I’m not sure how it would work in practice. Devotees like ourselves might be interested in an entire production company’s output, but I’m not sure the average person even knows or cares what particular studios are associated with what properties.

There are quite a few licenses that both LEGO and MB have done, sometimes with MB doing them first - Pirates of the Caribbean, SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Cars, Marvel / Spider-Man, and perhaps others I’m overlooking. If we expand it beyond just a Mega Bloks to all competing makers of construction toys, there are even more licenses that LEGO has done for which they’re not the only company that has. Heck, even LEGO mainstay Star Wars has had construction toys from other companies before (though more of the nuts-and-bolts steel girder Meccano / Erector style than interlocking plastic bricks). If it were a requirement for a LEGO license that no competing toymaker had previously held the construction toy license for that property, there’d be a lot fewer LEGO licenses.

Another fresh update: added Despicable Me / Minions. Perhaps I should do an alternate list of franchises they haven’t done yet.

What sort of light is best for building?
Blondie-Wan replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Good to know, thanks! I knew the sun’s UV rays were the main thing to avoid, but didn’t know whether most electric lights produce UV radiation as well. -
So, the set has been out for several days now, people here and elsewhere have bought it and assembled it and reviewed it, LEGO has produced all sorts of promotion for it and listed it on Shop at Home, etc. I’m starting to suspect that just maybe, this is a real set after all. But I still can’t believe it’s not an elaborate hoax.

What sort of light is best for building?

Do any of these light sources pose the same risk of discoloration the way actual sunlight does? -

The Treehouse was approved / announced about 8 1/2 months ago, on October 4, 2018. The original fan model is one of the more complex structures to be approved, so I’m not surprised they’re taking a little longer to get the final set design down. -

Ah, that would be it. I’m currently in a hospital and their network doesn’t seem to play well with YouTube embeds. -

I see your quote of legonerd54321, and then a big empty space below that, with no text or image. I’m guessing you posted the “REQUIRES FURTHER REVIEW” picture of the Playable LEGO Piano right below the quote, but it doesn’t show up for me. -

I can’t see Digger of Bricks’s response, but the Playable LEGO Piano is still under review! Yay! And the Dinosaur Skeletons are a go! That’s extremely cool. I’m looking forward to that one a lot. -

Really? Huh. I’d think the Arcade Machines are more of display models than Stitch is, myself. Stitch looks very much like the most playable of these four. -

To commemorate the recent 10th anniversary of LEGO Ideas, LEGO is giving four past unapproved 10k projects a second chance in an Extraordinary 10 Year Anniversary Review and Fan Vote. Stitch, the International Space Station (XCLD’s version), Nathan Sawaya’s Small Yellow, and the Sega Arcade Machines have all been pre-approved, and whichever receives the most fan votes from now to June 4th will be put into production! -
Another one, when they already have 2x2 tiles? Huh. A 1x1 is probably closer to accurate in scale (not that scale is ever truly accurate when it comes to anything involving minifigures), but I’d rather have gotten more waffle tiles to match the one already available. Still glad it’s there, though! The Demogorgon head was my second pick for “Actual size” element.
-
I’m betting the LEGO element shown for the “Actual size” image on the side of the box will be the 2x2 round tile with waffle print.

Sure, though the Ghostbusters costumes would entail additional licensing. But yeah, they could easily do a blind-bagged minifigure series for this theme (as they could for most themes, really). That said, I’d be astonished if they actually did a Minifigures series for Stranger Things (though then again, I’m astonished that they’re doing the theme at all, so...).

I posted this in the Stranger Things thread, but it’s relevant here as well...

I mentioned this over in its own thread, but it warrants mention here, too... Apparently as part of the promotion for the theatrical release of The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Walmart recently began offering special packs a few months ago of the Blu-rays of the three previous LEGO movies bundled with the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack minifigures. The bundles turn out to be just the entire first bag from the Starter Pack parts boxes, featuring all the parts for Wyldstyle, Gandalf, and Batman - complete with LD toy tag bases - plus the brick separator, which is hardly useful for minifigures. It’s difficult to read this as anything other than them just plain dumping leftover inventory for the game, though I also have to say it is still a fairly cool promo.

LCU movies bundled with LEGO Dimensions minifigures
Blondie-Wan replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
A short while ago I went back to Walmart and found a few copies left of these movies that included the minifigure bundles, as I’ve been meaning to get the spinoffs for a while anyway and still hadn’t yet. Looking at the packages, I noted that they gave piece counts of 25, and adding up the parts in the photo I came up with 21 - four short: Wyldstyle: 7 (hair, head, hood, torso, legs, 1x2 click hinge plate for tracker, 1x2 printed tile for tracker) Batman: 7 (hood, head, cape, torso, legs, 2x Batarangs [2 shown in photo]) Gandalf: 7 (hat, head, beard, cape, torso, legs, 6L bar w/ stop ring for staff) I bought The LEGO Batman Movie, came home, and opened it. It turns out it has the twenty-one parts I mentioned, plus the original printed LEGO Dimensions toy tag bases for each character, plus a brick separator (orange, of course). The parts bag is printed “1” - it’s literally just the entire first bag from the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack parts box (the subset 71200 that comes packed inside one of the Starter Packs). Ouch. But hey, just in case one wants more copies of those figures and accessories, there we go. I honestly think it’s a pretty nice deal for us, even if it suggests the game flopped worse than we thought. -
I don’t know, but I’m reminded of a poll they ran a few years ago in which they asked, among other things, about various entertainment franchises and our levels of interest in them, and/or which ones we wanted to see in LEGO or thought would make good LEGO themes. I don’t remember most of them, other than that most of them were at least somewhat family-friendly properties of the sorts we’re accustomed to seeing in LEGO (and I suspect several of them have since gone on to appear in LEGO, though I again I don’t recall them specifically). One did jump out and stick in my mind, though, because I was so surprised it was even on the list at all, and that’s Alien. At the time, I assumed it was one they’d never do, and that it was just mentioned there to help them get an idea of the kinds of things AFOLs like. I did see a recent article about some of the more adult-oriented cameos and references in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, in which it was reiterated that LEGO doesn’t do R-rated properties (and hence, that of the represented in that one sequence, a couple were indeed LEGO licenses but most weren’t, and at least a couple of them “never” would be due to their kid-unfriendly natures). But now we have this thing, which edges closer to R-rated material than I would once have imagined LEGO would ever dare, and I think about how cool LEGO Alien could really be; we’ve seen lots of beautiful MOCs from the franchise over the years already...

I’m of the opinion stylized cartoon characters like those in The Simpsons and Toy Story actually do look better in minifigure form when given appropriately specially-molded, stylized heads. On the other hand, I have no particular interest in or familiarity with Trolls as a franchise, so I’m fine with whatever they do. As always, I’ll be interested in whatever parts and colors this theme brings, even if I don’t care about the source material or resulting builds, and might pick up some sets once they hit clearance. (All of this could change if I ever wind up watching Trolls and deciding I like it. I don’t think it’s likely, but Stranger Things have happened...)
-
Another update: added Trolls, per today’s reveal.

I just saw that on FB! I’m going back now to check through this thread - has it been brought up before?
