I agree, the shape is very easy to create and is instantly recognizable, so it looks like they just created the shape and threw some red on there. Kind of disappointing. Great review though, I always try to make a point to let the reviewer know their work is appreciated, even if I don't like the set, this is one of those times.

Why do you collect the Collectible Minifigures?
Big Cam replied to thegurumb's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think the real question is why collect anything? There are probably numerous answers to that question, all of them correct. I personally have gotten a set or two of each simply to have them, I don't really plan to sell them, or really play with them. I just simply want them to have them. Sounds weird when I read it now. -

+2 for KimT, paid me so fast the money caught on fire, 2 separate times last week. -
There is no set way for taking pictures, but a few of us have our favorite or personal ways. I'll give you my way of picture taking and if it works for you, great, if not at least you'll know what not to try. Usually there are 2 types of LEGO photographers, those who use natural light and those who use artificial light. I use artificial light. I take all of my review pictures in a light box. A light box is essentially just 5 pieces of white cardboard, commonly known as poster board or foam board. Then I cut two squares in the sides and put a piece of white paper over the hole, this is the entrance point for my two auxiliary lights. You can use anything from desk lamps to big work lights like me (they were $7 at wal-mart). The objective is to be able to take a picture without using your front facing flash. The reason is because front facing flashes (found on every camera) is they create bright spots or flash spots on the front of your subject, and LEGOs get them bad because they are mostly reflective. So in my opinion the camera is a big deal as well. Others have pr oven me wrong that fantastic photos CAN be taken with almost any camera, but for me, it helps to start with a RAW image so the post editing options are greater. I use a Nikon D40 which is considered an DSLR camera. Another bonus is I can use a flash that allows me to point it's flash up wards essentially eliminating the flash spots and creating an almost natural light effect, since it bounces off the top of the light box and comes down on the subject. If nothing else one of the most important things to use is a tripod or at least have a very steady place for your camera to be. Without using a flash you need to hold the camera almost perfectly still, thats why a tripod is so helpful. Otherwise it takes time, trying different shots over and over. I for one am a huge fan of post editing software like photo shop, in there you can brighten or darken a picture, smooth out the edges, amplify color and so on. Here is a picture of my setup, and the end result after editing. I use this setup in a room with no natural light, if there is some, I don't mind, but I don't need it. DISCLAIMER: I know my pictures are not perfect, but they have gotten to a level that is acceptable to me. SETUP END RESULT

I'm actually watching and listening to Lex & Terry via ustream on my droid.

It did, Andy suggested it above, and I've been viewing that way since. I've never used the pc version, I should give it a try, I liked it on my old blackberry.

My minifigs get put together once and rarely get taken apart. I originally thought this was going to be a thread about how to store minifigs, particularly the series ones where you likely have many duplicates, I use little minifig sized ziploc bags you can get off of amazon, 500 for like $4.

About 40 polybag sets, most are not for me.

They are all really good and it makes me ask if you'd be up for rotating them. It was honestly hard to pick just one. In the end I chose Luxor's first one, mainly because it was subtle and not too flashy. I do wish that the blue coloring used for the eurobricks stars in his third banner was used on his first as well, I think out goes better with the ghost theme than the green.

I don't care for Firefox, I've tried Chrome but I don't like how they legally have rights to basically everything you do online.

That looks amazing, it's like a gundam transformed into a fighter jet. Very cool.

haha, I hate safari, and mac's all together. I love the iphone and their mobile platform, but I just can't ever get used to their operating system. The compatibility mode fixed my problem. No shadows needed.

I will have to try that when I get home from work, thanks for the tip.

OK, now that is impressive. CGH must be a great teacher. This may go down as my favorite ship I've seen yet. I love the grand stature it has yet it doesn't look too big, which is sometimes a challenge. I can't wait to get this on the classic-pirates.com blog. Check for it in a few days. So I just downloaded IE9 and it's interesting. Whenever I click the multi-quote button it immedietaly brings me to a reply box with the quote, so essentially I can't quote more than one quote at a time, therefore eliminating the point of multi-quotes. Also so far this is only happening on EB but when I click a picture that has a link, like from one of the indexes it opens the link in a new tab, AND in the current window. Even when I click my profile link in my sig it does this. I searched all over the options in IE9 and I can't find anythnng to change it. Shadows I am in need of your services.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion
Big Cam replied to legokuate's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Um who in America is finding these? Whitefang is in Singapore and he had a box weeks ago. I'm in the US and haven't seen these anywhere, and I've been looking, so don't get all upset. -
Holy Crap, Whitefang I can't believe how in depth this review was. I am really looking forward to this series, and I didn't really put together that they all kind of tie together. I think the next big thing on bricklink will be sales of complete sets of 64. Your reviews are legendary, fantastic job. I know how much work went into this. I can't wait to get my hands on some.

Wow, I haven't even seen these anywhere yet. I can't wait, thanks for the heads up. -
Mutly, that looks awesome, it's great to see something built exactly to spec, but in a different color scheme. Most Impressive.
-
I like it. I haven't quite seen something like it before, it kind of reminds me of the machines in the Matrix. I know it's actually nothing like them, but I guess that's what comes to mind.
-
Wow, they look better than I was expecting.

Great bokeh, I love the depth of field.

OK, I was thinking the exact same thing. You get all the credit for being original, but I feel the same way. It's hard to determine that it's specifically from the Venetor, but like the Doctor said, I don't know the location well enough.

Well, as long as it was bumped, I'll say damn! This is awesome, I shamefully say I never even heard of this ship, but I have a feeling that you re-created it perfectly. Or is it your own. Either way, it looks stellar.
