Review: Fairy Minifig Key Chain
David Thomsen replied to dieselboy m's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is quite adorable, and I'm wondering how it came about? I know it won't be any new line, but I like to think about it... Speculation: Maybe the fairies are actually 1:1 scale, instead of regular minifigs which are much smaller representations of people. And the fairies live in things like old wooden clocks and small wooden boxes, so these all get built at 1:1 scale, and there's a little motor in the clock that makes it keep actual time. Yeah, that would be a cool line... too bad it's about as likely to happen as the other themes I completely made up, like the Jane Austen theme and the Princess Bride theme. -
New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
David Thomsen replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Oooh thanks. I actually came to this thread to ask this question, and it's already answered. I already have the Imperial Flagship because I couldn't wait for it, but I can wait for the two new modular building sets, and I know I don't need to buy them online now. However, I do know that I have some serious saving to do... -
What and odd piece of information... I mean, there are weak points in the ship, but nothing worth taking it off the shelves for. In any case it's still for sale on S@H, which kind of disproves the information.

How open are you about your Lego passion?
David Thomsen replied to Fugazi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Heck yeah do I tell everyone. I get my Lego parcels delivered to where I work, and whenever something big arrives like the Green Grocer or the Imperial Flagship, I go around and show it to everyone and talk about the features. Most people say 'wow that's awesome', which I don't think is anything to feel ashamed about. Actually, I was more ashamed when I was 15 and I was still buying Lego and all my friends were getting into relationships and alcohol and 'adult' stuff like that. I remember one day having to avoid my friends at a shopping centre because I had a big Lego set and they were all hanging out being teenagers. Shortly after that I dropped the Lego hobby for a long time, probably because of this incident. Now I'm an adult, I earn my own money, I can buy whatever I like, and see no reason to be ashamed about it. I mean, personally, I don't see the appeal of getting drunk every Saturday night and hanging out in clubs where you can't hear a word anyone says... that just seems weird to me. -
I was thinking about my loyalty to the Lego brand just now, and it occured to me that the main reason I never purchase the product of any competing brand is that none of them are really any good. It's not that I'm a fanatical Lego devotee, but I'd rather not buy anything made of low quality plastic or poor design. I'm quite sure that if someone were to produce an alternative to Lego that was made of high quality plastic, had consistent colour mixing and was targetted more at the adult collector and model-maker than at children, I wouldn't hesitate to start collecting that range as well. What about you? If such a brand existed, would you stick with Lego, purchase from both brands or switch competely?

What do you think is the ideal size of vignettes?
David Thomsen replied to Siegfried's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Great minds think alike etc. That was my response as well. -
I was trying to expand my pirate crew the other day by taking heads from other themes and it occured to me that it would be useful to have a search engine where you could search for heads matching a specific criteria... The options would be something like: male/female/andogynous yellow/flesh/other classic eyes/eyes with white dots in them/exoforce eyes one sided/double sided glasses/no glasses technology (microphones etc)/no technology So if you wanted to find suitable heads for Brickbeard's crew, you'd do a search for yellow;eyes with white dots in them;single sided;no glasses;no technology, and that would come up with a list of appropriate heads. And if you clicked on the picture of the head, it would go to the BrickLink page where you can see which sets include this head. Does a search engine like this exist, and if it doesn't, would it be useful? And what other criteria should it have that I hadn't thought of? I could possibly learn enough HTML skills to program this myself, but I'm not sure if it would be useful enough to other people, or if anyone else is already working on it.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 2 Poll
David Thomsen replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Now that I think about it, none of the 32 minifigs are from a current or upcoming range... there's the vampire and the witch and the diver and the ninja and the cowboy and the Indian and the forestman which have been done before, but not in a very long time, except for the witch who only appeared in the advent calendar. Maybe there are no pirates because they don't want to repeat anything that's been done recently. -
REFERENCE Dusting Lego displays and layouts
David Thomsen replied to SirNadroj's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yeah, I'm always sticking bits back on that the sheet knocks off... but when the cat jumps on the table (usually because he knows this gets my attention) at least he isn't tracking dirt everywhere. -
Wasn't there a thread for new minifigs that would look good in the Pirates line? Last time I created a topic like this, it was quickly merged... Maybe that thread should be pinned so that people can find it easily... Great dress BTW. Shame about the overused face. I guess it can be hard to think of new female faces when it would be historically inaccurate for them to wear glasses and they can't have facial hair.

Transparent plastic sheets can be both cheap and enormous if you find them at the right place. I drape one over my lego table when I'm not building anything. -
LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 2 Poll
David Thomsen replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm quite sure that even after the final products have been seen, my favourite will still be Disco Stu... Even if they gave that motorcycle cop (?) a better hat, it's still going to be just a motorcycle cop. Without a motorcycle. It may be that the novelty has worn off, but I'm not as excited by series two as I am by series one. Or maybe it's that this series has even less I can use in my layouts. Maybe the mime could entertain my village, but that's about it. They really need to think of minifigs that will compliment ranges that already exist... things like Robin Hood and the Cowboy and Indian being prime examples. I'll keep an eye for pirates in series three, but my interest is waning again. -
LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 2 Poll
David Thomsen replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Hey, the poll isn't working for me... I wonder if it's because series one has been removed, and now the poll is buggy. It keeps saying I left one of the fields blank. I know they're preliminary pics, but that disco guy totally wins. -

David Thomsen replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Okay, I've seen all of them now and there's still no pirate. Don't these people realise how cool pirates are??? I think I like the disco guy best out of this new range, but like the caveman, he isn't as much fun without a female partner. And Sparta guy doesn't have anyone to fight... I think they need to understand that themes are much better when they have more than one minifig in them. One minifig is an oddity... two minifigs are a playset. The lifeguard gets a surfer, the cowboy gets a native Indian American... they should all be paired like that. Now we need all the relevant polls... What is your favourite minifig from Series 2? What is your favourite minifig from Series 1 and Series 2 combined? Which Series do you prefer, 1 or 2? Etc. -

Wow... I hardly ever have to use the Ignore User function on this forum, then I have to use it a bunch of times in one go. I'd hate for this thread to be locked, it's where I look for new information on the minifigs. -

David Thomsen replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
To me it depends on the context... say for example the robot was rare and desirable and the ninja was common and unwanted. If I get a robot but want a ninja, and someone I know gets a ninja but wants a robot, I'd do a straight swap, just because it seems unfair to demand an uneven trade (one robot for one ninja plus some other parts) just because of bad luck. And we both get what we want. On the other hand, if I had one ninja and one robot and I were trying to sell them, I'd definitely demand more for the robot than the ninja. That's just financial common sense. -
Mine arrived today, woooo!!! Already built it, set it up next to the Brickbeard's Bounty. There are a couple of weak points - for example, the roof of the captain's cabin isn't held in place, but that's easily fixed. Everything else is absolutely beautiful. The masts are much better than on the BB. The sad thing is, I'm never going to be this excited over a Lego set again. What could beat a 1664 piece sailing ship? I really don't know.

I don't think these petitions mean much... it's just that so many of us want to ask Lego to continue one theme or another, and this is the only outlet we have. And after we've signed the petition, we can feel nice and secure knowing that we've done all that we possibly can to encourage Lego to meet our wishes. Actually, I think a Universal Yearly Survey would make sense. Instead of having a petition for everything, there could be questions like 'what three themes would you most like to be continued' and 'of those three themes, what models in particular do you want to see'. And then the survey results can be compiled and forwarded to the Lego company. It would give TLC a more realistic idea of what AFOLS are interested in.

Okay, it's been a couple of days since those pictures were taken, doesn't anyone have a complete list of them yet? There are still one or two unaccounted for. It's just weird that so many people must have seen them by now, but that the list still isn't complete. -

Can anyone else spot the new themes developing? Mexico: luchador, guy with maraccas. Circus: ringleader, clown, strongman, mime Horror: zombie, vampire, cheerleader It's like, themes they can't do anywhere else. -
What do you look for most in a lego set?
David Thomsen replied to sok117's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Up until a couple of years ago I mostly bought things because they were on sale or clearance, and occasionally if they had a good range of interesting parts or minifigs. Lately I've had a more systematic approach, buying things based on themes. I'll buy ANYTHING Pirates and Indiana Jones. I'll buy city sets if they belong in my small farmers village I've been developing. I'm going to buy the new Kingdoms range as well, and bought a few of the Fantasy Castle sets if they were human based. So yeah. Theme comes first, and secondly how well a set fits in my collection. -
Heck yeah do I sign. So many missing sets and characters... Sallah... Marcus... the Tank... the Train... young Indy... the Himallayan bar... the Map Room... I'll buy whatever they make. David.

I think the Roman is going to be the most expensive on BrickLink... from what I've heard, the fact that one of these minifigs has a new mould doesn't guarantee it's going to ever be seen again, so this may be the ONLY opportunity to get a Roman helmet. And I think there are going to be a few people who want to make an entire Roman Legion, so that's like at least 20+ of the same helmet and torso and legs (I imagine the legs will have Roman armour printed on it) mixed with other heads. And that's only a really small 4x5 Roman formation. Yeah... that's going to be the most expensive army building experience ever. Thanks for sharing those figs... still no pirate I see. Still, there are a couple left, so maybe...
