What's the best Minifigure ever made?
drdavewatford replied to Mr. Elijah Timms's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For me it must be this guy.... So yummy and shiny ! I do love the Classic Spaceman and new Boba Fett, however. Dr. D. -
A re-introduction to the Community,
drdavewatford replied to Brick Miner's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Love it, Justin - really excellent work ! I really do hope that you can contribute periodically to EB once you start work in Billund - you will in essence be 'living the dream' of many LEGO fanatics, and while most of us will never get to make a living from our LEGO passion, we can perhaps at least get a flavour of the experience from you. Best of luck with the new job, and I'm hugely looking forward to seeing some of your designs come to life and appearing at retail ! Dr. D. -
Another fantastic UCS MOC, Anio - great work ! Let me know when the instructions and inventory are available - having built clones of your UCS TIE and superb Podracer (both are still built and on display), perhaps Slave 1 should be next....

Cheers, guys ! Just discovered the import function by accident; will try the copy method also. I've now added a bunch of modulars and a couple of trains to my layout ! Only problem is how slow LDD is running now - piece count went from about 7000 to about 14000 when I imported all the files, and now the programme is really plodding along. My layout has a number of road baseplates; it doesn't seem to be possible to place vehicles on the roads. Anyone got any tips ? Before I finish, just want to say "well done" to the folks who made LXF files for all these official models - great job ! I will have to try this myself. Cheers, Dr. D.

Despite having been on Eurobricks for a while now, this is the first time I found this amazing resource - great work, guys ! One question (for now) - I have an existing ixf file for one of my own creations, a large city layout. In 'real life' I will be adding a number of official sets to my layout. I'd love to add them to my LDD layout too for planning purposes. Is it possible to merge the LDD files on these pages into a pre-existing file ? Thanks ! Dr. D.

MOC: Modified 7937 Train Station
drdavewatford replied to The Yellow Brick's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Nice - a sensible mod given that the original platform obviously isn't long enough. Looks good ! Next you might want to consider adding some kind of canopy to keep the waiting passengers out of the rain.... Dr. D. -
MINI Rebel Snowspeeder (T-47 Airspeeder)
drdavewatford replied to Legostein's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Excellent as always, Legostein ! Also nice to be reminded of your superb "Invisible Hand' mini in a subsequent post. I think this is better than the 'official' version - LEGO should get you to design the official minis..... :-) Dr. D. -
That's great - many thanks ! Cheers, Dr. D.

Eurobrickers, Having collected most of the vouchers for free LEGO from the UK daily Mirror, I couldn't get to a shop today to buy the paper, and today's paper contained the address where the vouchers need to be sent....! I couldn't find the address on the Mirror website unfortunately. Can someone please post the address on here for me and anyone else who couldn't get today's paper ? Thanks ! Dr. D.

Nice job, Cavegod ! Not sure about your carpet, though...... :-)

Yep - uncannily similar, Darth Lion. Remarkably so. Still looking forward to seeing the LDD file - just to be clear, did you actually build this, stark mark 5, or did you just find a picture of it ? Whatever, it looks excellent, so if you did build it, superb !

Yuk - numbered bags. A lot of people seem to be on a downer about this set, but I'll be getting it - looks pretty good to me.

Interesting interview - thanks, Superkalle ! I'm not a frequent user of LDD, but can certainly see an improvement in the graphics, and I love the ability to show brick outlines ! Incidentally, I'm a bit confused when LDD opens up and I need to select between Design By Me, Mindstorms and Creator. Other than the availability of different pre-made models to import, does selecting Creator, DbM etc. influence anything else, e.g. choice of available bricks etc. It's also somewhat ironic that the 'baseplate' icon in the brick select pane shows a 'T' junction but despite this it doesn't appear to be possible to select road plates from this menu ! Cheers, Dr. D.

Great - many thanks ! I'll check it out. Dr. D.

Hi folks, I've looked with interest at the building technique guides on Eurobricks, and I'm now looking for additional information about building techniques. Can anyone suggest where I can find information regarding techniques for MOC'ing (1) Rock formations, (2) Water (standing water such as lakes, waves etc.) and (3) foliage (i.e. open green spaces, forests etc.). I've been studying some superb MOCs, but a resource summarizing some of the buliding techniques used would be very helpful. Thanks ! Dr. D.

Just remembered - I wrote a whole blog entry on the Death Star set recently, including photos of some of the individual compartments and a description of the play features. You can view it at : http://gimmelego.blogspot.com/2010/10/love-letter.html And before anyone picks me up on it, I apologise for mentioning my blog twice in one morning on these forums - I promise not to do it again ! It's just a big coincidence that 2 topics arose today, both of which I've blogged about recently. Anyway, hope the info is useful. Dr. D.

I'm not a huge fan of the flex track either BUT it could be argued that a new pack of straights + flex segments is directy responding to consumer demand. How many times have you seen people complaining that they just want to buy straights ? Many times ! But we also know that LEGO like to package straights and curves together. So doesn't the straight + flex pack address both LEGO and consumer needs ? Everyone is focusing on the flex segments as a way of recreating curves, but you can of course also use them just to create straight sections.... Not ideal, but better than wasting your money on straights + curves when you only want straights. Also, regarding Emerald Night, does anyone have any idea regarding the sales of this set ? My impression is that it has been extremely popular, in which case it could potentially encourage LEGO to provide us with more additional train-related sets outside the 4-year cycle. Except that I have no idea whether the outstanding reaction from the AFOL community has actually translated into sales, and it'll be sales rather than critical acclaim which will drive LEGO to make more trains for us.... Dr. D.

That is excellent - outstanding attention to detail, and it runs great ! Nice job ! Dr. D.

I'm with Big Cam - the Death Star gets my vote too. I loved the build, and if playability's your thing there are tons of play features and minifigs to keep your son busy.... Dr. D.

Video of 6.8m/ 23'-Long USS Intrepid Aircraft Carrier
drdavewatford replied to DLuders's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This aircraft carrier was on display at the Great Western LEGO Show a couple of weeks back - it's a model of the USS Intrepid built by Ed Diment with help from Annie Diment and Ralph Savelsberg. It weights a quarter of a ton and contains 250,000 pieces..... I did a feature on it in my blog; if you're interested you can find out more at : http://gimmelego.blogspot.com/2010/10/omg.html Cheers, Dr. D. -

UCS Shuttle Box is 58 cm x 47.5 cm x 9 cm. Dr. D. -
Great job, Siegfried - this is an extremely useful new feature. I've found the general search facility frankly unusable when looking for reviews, so I can see myself using this new facility a lot. I'm looking forward to the Star Wars reviews being searchable, as it's these I look for most often. Delighted to hear that this is in the plan. Thanks - keep up the good work ! D.
