I'm not a member of a LUG, I have wondering about doing the odd set review - though it appears things are pretty well covered on that front here, at least for new/current sets.

One would hope there are some kind of protections or recourse for you should they not send you a replacement and just try to refund at this stage given you took possession? Basically it would be like you sent something back for repair, and instead of repairing it they sold it to someone else and sent you a refund... After all that set is 1 of the 20000, I would be dissappointed if they just chucked it due to a faulty box. Really though I think we should have faith that LEGO will handle this appropriately (at the end of the day they too could go to the aftermarket to make something right)

That could've been quite bad if one of those bags was the one with the printed License plate! (looking at the parts list at least it appears not) -

Good deals on the Warehouse red alert sale today! e.g. Kingdom Joust for $130 (sadly already sold out though, but there are some others that could also be of interest). -
I had originally looked at doing that but too many of the boxes were the same size, but perhaps I didn't try hard enough - I might give it another try with some of the more notable sets.

Just a minor correction - no one is getting charged for a set that is not shipped to them (at least not from Lego without them screwing up). Otherwise I think you have a good sentiment, it is peoples hard earned money and it is a hobby many of them are passionate about, it would be sad for scalpers to be able to get in the way of that and hold the hobby to ransom. So far though the dust hasn't settled to see if any fans at this point in time are going to miss out, I think this picture will become clearer later on (it will probably affect those fans that didn't have great finances to buy as soon as the set came out). And I am somewhere in the middle, I keep all the boxes as I quite like them (I have some from my childhood, and find it interesting the see the original printing)... But it is not possible to keep those boxes intact, there are too many that take up too much space, so virtually all boxes I have get dismantled so that they can be flattened (unfortunately most Lego boxes aren't designed for this so need to be ripped to do so)... I probably wont do that with this particular set however.

I'll be lucky if that is the case; tbh I never really payed close attention with past orders and just expected them to take about a month to get here. Edit: and good news it has changed status to shipped, looked like you called it :) -
I would've thought they might have actually given you a specific or to order license number? (assuming one of those wasn't).

New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
Alternator replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Still no movement on mine, I got the original confirm email and the order status and all items are listed as 'In Process'. This makes me think that it is probably quite low down the queue (i.e. it hasn't been looked at yet), hopefully I'm wrong on that count but it sounds like most orders have either been shipped or put onto backorder. -
My thoughts as well - ordinarily I don't have issue with someone buying easily available sets, to then sell after eol, as it stands they aren't preventing people who wish to buy the set and are creating the opportunity for future fans to get older sets albeit at a higher price (that is their value add). But in this case it is a process that is actively at the detriment of actual customers of the product in order to speculate (a step too far imho), and I have read a story by one person who seemed to fib to Lego in order to unlock their account (I wasn't clear if it was to get addition sets or if they were just busted as a reseller trying to get 2).

I could be wrong but believe their online system does enforce a limit of 2. I think the manual handling was to catch orders placed on secondary accounts or in funny ways (e.g. someone registers twice with 2 seperate email addresses, but perhaps they notice it is the same credit card, or shipping addy etc, while tracking this can and probably was done with computers it becomes more of a manual sleuthing process). I'm of two minds about this, while a 1 per cust limit would discourage people buying 1 for play, and 1 to sit on with the intent of flipping it later (probably to some poor soul who missed out due to limited stock), there are legitimate reasons some people may want to get a hold of more than 1 (say as a gift etc). In that case not being able to buy an additional one means they would be more likely to go to the aftermarket which in turn helps increase the demand perhaps - and we all know devious people got around the limit anyway. Yes I do think that Lego is actually trying with this process which is a good thing, but they aren't going to be perfect. Lets hope the scalper problem wasn't too bad.

Sadly Lego only has limited control over how many sets some people are able to acquire, too bad those that are bypassing are not sparing a thought for their fellow person.

I think others have covered the suggestions re how to deal with the seller. I thought I would just jump on and mention that those 8x16 Green plates can be bought direct from the Lego store, if you did feel strongly enough to get a replacement. This I believe is the part name to type in for Pick a Brick: (provided I counted the studs correctly, you can double check they have the correct color available) Plate 8x16

I've actually got that one in my cupboard still waiting for a rainy day to build. Depending on how bothered you can be, you may find that there is a store within range that still has old stock of it. No guarantees but could be possible. In regards to a technic set that I missed... err well since coming out of my dark ages I have gotten all technics that interest me, except the 8053 crane which for some bizarre reason never showed up in any shops here . I could have got it online but they didn't seem to have those free shipping deals so I would've ended up paying an extra 80 bucks on top of the rrp for it :hmpf_bad: I can comfort myself with the 42009 at least (once finances are a bit more solid since I did just outlay for a 41999), but I still would've liked the 8053.

Not Aus, but NZ; I placed my order for one at about 00:40 GMT (so 40 mins after it became available as I understand it - just so happens to be my lunchtime here), all items in my order have been sitting as 'In Process' ever since (it also includes the BTTF set and the freebie). Oh and I've put through many orders with them in past so I'm not new to their online store.

New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
Alternator replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I placed my order about 00:40 GTM time (so 12:40 lunchtime yesterday). I got the email confirming they had received my order shortly after. Since then all items have been listed as "In Process" with no further change or email. My guess is things are being managed manually to try and eliminate people trying to acquire many to on sell which with this particular set is highly predatory. I would be surprised if our orders which presumably went in very promptly wouldn't be met, Hopefully they aren't on backorder for a month either... There's probably some very busy dispatch people at Lego right now. -
Hmm I placed my order during lunchtime yesterday - my order appears as an "In Process". I ordered when the indicator said it was in stock.
-
provided my order goes through, I'll build mine and put the stickers on - I pretty much always apply the stickers to sets; the worst case is I decide to remove the stickers later on... but otherwise the purpose of keeping the unused sticker sheets around wasn't so valuable to me. (I suppose many years later it could be interesting to look at or scan to provide bricklinkers an option to generate their own sheets).
-
It could be because not all sets are at the same location, and so one place sells out but another does not - and so at some point they reassess the stocking and reallocate where the demand is... just a possible explanation?!
-
Mmm, I placed my order while the site had it listed as in stock - but even still I wonder how they will handle orders - I've received a confirmation they've received my order, but I wonder that they may have to do draws or something if they were inundated - it's all speculation on my part (and I've been wrong a lot recently )
-
It's a risk - but unless it stops you tracking down one in a store the risk is the same as not placing the order sadly. I'll be gutted for people if they miss out as I really thought this set was going to be available for a while, hopefully Lego are simply adjusting things to be more manual on their end so they can meet incoming orders.

I was a fence sitter too - for me it was the price, suddenly we see a set which doesn't seem wildly over priced (its actually $50nzd lower than the original crawler), so I order at lunch rather than wait - and then surprise it's out of stock when I log in at home after work
