Mystery on the Excelsior - Chapter Four
Waterbrick Down replied to Bob's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Arthur searches the desk. "I'm not sure it would be as easy as you're suggesting, there's a whole lot of 'what if's' in there. I'm glad you're confident in the lockdown once we arrive, but if we keep in mind the sabotage, the communication blocking, and everything else we've encountered so far, do you really think a single locked door is going to keep them from fleeing. Plus I'm sure the authorities won't be able to hold everyone indefinitely, which means we need to figure them out now while we've got the chance." "It should be noted that Mr. Parry, inexplicably had the launch codes for the escape pods on his person. The killer might be looking for a way to escape and a secondary vehicle could provide just that. I trust you have your keys on you and you locked your ship?" -

“I do, I think they may be just trying to distract us from figuring out the murder at hand and stalling the clock until we make port. If they wanted us dead in the water, don’t you think they would have sabotaged the ship more thoroughly? How do you propose we stop the blocking? If you’ve got an efficient strategy, I’d be glad to go along, but we’ve got more clues for the current mystery than this new conundrum.” -

“If there’s a signal jammer, it’ll be important to locate it at some point, but as long as we’re still enroute to our destination, we should probably continue our search. 1H right?” -

"Nothing concrete, he wasn't the most talkative passenger. An examination of his room led us to believe he had recently ignored a persuasive offer to buy his technology he was researching from him. Could be some sort of corporate espionage." "Could be a recent event to stop any more communications from getting out. Perhaps the perpetrator wasn't aware of the ships long range communication abilities before all of this began and looked to sabotage it when it came to light?" -

"That isn't good. Why would the communications stop working now of all times? I'd imagine it have to be something substantial to knock out an array as big as the ship carries." -

"My, that was a later night than I thought it was. So it would have only been an hour or so between when we saw Mr. Peck and when the blackout occurred. So still a possibility that the killing might have been during the blackout." -

"Possibly, but the weapon of choice seems to have been a teapot taken from the lounge. Which means the perpetrator would have had to wait for myself and Noah to finish cleaning, which would have been an hour or two after the guests retired for the evening." -

"He was still dressed in the same clothes we had seen him in during the evening and hadn't really unpacked things yet. It was probably around 8 or 9 that he left the lounge for the evening." Arthur tries to recall what time the passengers headed to their rooms on the first night. -

"Not entirely sure. If the assailant didn't have key card access the only time they would have been able to get into the room is when the security system was down during the black-out or if they had been invited into the room by Mr. Peck. If the assailant had key card access it could have been at any time." -

If the rules are not changing from 1.0: 1. This is GM dependent, usually a party member can express their desire to join a battle in progress via boldly describing the action. You can then usually act as long as the hero is included in the battle statistics. 2. Blinded affects physical attacks only. Magical attacks (i.e. things that consume ether) still work. 3. Unless GM specified, you can do nothing. -

"Mr. Parry was found yesterday, but it looked like he had been knocked out around the same time as Mr. Peck's death. The FTL was deactivated around midnight 2 days back now. (I'm assuming each chapter is a day?)" Arthur gets the Mr. Coffee working again and brews a cup for the policewoman. -

"Officer Jones, a delight to have you on board on Blue Star's flagship, I'm sorry it couldn't be under better circumstances. Steward Arthur Allan at your service. As has already been relayed, Mr. Peck was found killed about 1 day ago. Mr. Parry also was missing and after being found unconscious an inspection of his hands was found to have evidence of having recently dealt with something sharp and rough such as the murder weapon found in Mr. Peck's room. We've searched a good number of other rooms so far, but nothing else of evidence has come up. As Engineer Palmer noted, the FTL drive was deactivated at one point, but we haven't found any clues surrounding that yet. We were just determining our next course of action when you arrived. Unless you have any of the equipment Engineer Palmer mentioned, I'd recommend we check the spare room 1H. Also, can I get you a drink? I'm sure the trip was a long one to make it out to use way out here." -

“And you’re the only one we’re aware of that is intimately aware of how the FTL drive works. If anyone would know how to sabotage the vessel so specifically it would be you and none of us would have the expertise to question it. Combine that with you’re erratic and combative behavior leaves me wondering if you’re trying to control the investigation instead of helping it. So excuse me for being suspicious.” Arthur offers his hand to fingerprint. “Well we already established you’ve been in passenger’s rooms, so I’d be interested to see what else you’ve been up to.” -

"Anyone else notice Mr. Parry's hands?" Arthur inspects the hands closer to tell if they're well calloused from hard labor or had just recently been scuffed up. "I'd suggest we perhaps inspect the spare room 1h as it's near Mr. Peck's room and someone may have stashed something inside. Which reminds me..." "Dr. Frost, Mr. Seymour, your rooms are across from and next to Mr. Peck's, did you happen to hear anything from his room around the time of the power outage?" -

"So he was trying to get off the ship to... escape from the murder? Seems plausible, but for a hitman, sloppy." "What are we supposed to do, if you're the only one with fingerprints on the terminal? You restarted the FTL right, wouldn't your prints be all over it?" -

"It more for excess luggage. Everyone's rooms only have so much closet space." Arthur looks for any tools that might have been used to access the wiring.
