  1. As the large shark surfaced, Skrall smiled. "Hello fishy." The ogre loaded his Unlucky Crossbow, "Anyone got issue with me taking on 'Bruce' here?"
  2. "Yer tellin' me, Alfred. Time to get goin' seems like." Skrall grabbed his stuff and scrambled to the sand bar.
  3. "Agreed, we go into the drink, we're in whatever-that-is's territory. Better we get something solid underneath our feet, either ice or that island." Skrall nodded to the sandbar not far from the boat as he shoved a bolt into his crossbow.
  4. Skrall indicated the storm around them, "Are ya daft man? One can hardly see his soddin' hand in front of his face with this torrential down pour. Yes, a light spell."
  5. OoC: Could you clarify how we're supposed to know what's going on, but don't know what "Bruce" is? "Pardon me fer askin' captain, but how do ya intend to bring the beast down?" Skrall notes the swarming fish in the sea, "If those things are swimmin' away from the monster, I imagine we'll have company soon enough. Mr. Dwinlas, yer a magic user aren't ya? Perhaps ya'd like to shed a little light on our present situation?"
  6. Skrall scrunched up his eyebrows, somewhat confused. "Aye captain, I reckon the creature be 'round here somewhere's." Skrall attempted to track "Bruce".
  7. From a player standpoint, seeing as how the Wolf King's Followers are essentially "the bad guys" in the eyes of all the other PC's, it gives our characters a shot at redemption.
  8. "Unless we're talking about an incorruptible and omnipotent ruler, but I don't think we've got one of those available at the moment." The vampire smiled, "How do you all suppose this union will gain the good graces of the other factions within this city, the Academy or the Paladin order?"
  9. "I think I've heard enough so far." Boris places his 2 votes for Guts Holla.
  10. And that's what makes it so difficult, I think we can all probably agree on the benefits of a republic if we were able to micromanage the entire Heroica economy and world, but the game is about heroics unfortunately and not politics no matter how much we want to try and make it that. Lind is noble in wanting to enact it, but it's really not feasible (game-wise) for him to actually fulfill on his promises. Plus in a fantasy settings it's hard to argue absolutes (i.e. dynasties have led to tyranny) as their could easily be examples that counter that argument that haven't been shown or created yet in the game world.
  11. "History? I'm not familiar with any republics to this date, are you?"
  12. "As is an electorate's." "Not once have you mentioned thus Master Whisperer, your entire argument has been based upon how you are above such concerns and longings, that is deception, not striving."
  13. "Master Whisperer, no man is ever free, he is always a slave to something, whether it be wealth, power, the approval of man, or his own ideals. Slowly and surely a man will use whatever power he has available to him to serve this master. Man as is his very nature, will work towards corruption and it bothers me deeply that you would deny this very aspect of yourself as if it did not exist. I would rather see a man honest about his own nature than one who attempts to conceal it with piety or in the name of liberty."
  14. "Seems as good as a place as any to start."
  15. Skrall scratched his head as he pondered at the doors before reaching for the lantern. "The Coven of Delita's Woods, the Tower of Nac-Ri, Journey to the Centre of Olegaia, and The Fish in the Sea, respectively I'd guess," The ogre pointed at each door.
  16. "I wouldn't call at each other's throats coexistence," The vampire chuckled. "You say history cannot provide an example of a king that did not setup a dynasty, I can give you several and as the cowled fellow has pointed out, the equivilation of dynasty and tyranny is but an association fallacy. As for this electoral council, how will you ensure it does not become corrupt itself? And elections? Who do you see running these, from whence do you believe the capital to establish all of this will come?"
  17. "And that is where I believe you may be misguided. Time cannot fix all things. Just as Ennoc and Tarok are as immiscible as oil and water, so too you will find some divisions within this city."
  18. "All this talk of a republic is well and good, and even if you do have good intentions, Whisperer, is it? But a republic requires a contingent of upright individuals whom must remain unsoiled by the very corruptible power which they yield, not to mention they must be united by a singular goal, design, and ideology. Eubric, as this other gentleman has declared, is a city of many different peoples, races, creeds, and beliefs, not all of which are always compatible or may be reasoned through or with."
  19. Boris pushed through the doors into Chateau and silently made his way among the columns listening to the heated debate beginning in the halls. The vampire paused a moment before fixing his name to the register of Crescent Union members. As Lind continued his speeches a cowled ranger spoke up. "Here, here. As the good book says 'All that falls within man's sight will never satisfy him, nor will calamity or expiry ever be satiated.' sayings of Monsolo stanza 27, line 20."
  20. "Nay, I am in no mood for sparring as of the moment, you might want to consider it with this marauder fellow you keep going on about. What makes you think you'll be able to enact any meaningful change, Eubric is a city filled with dozens of competing interests few of which may be mutually satisfied."
  21. "Maybe in here, but there's plenty of people out there who are." Boris took another sip from his goblet, "Debates, huh? Whatever happened to a good old fashioned duel..."
  22. "Our freeport? Are you from Eubric, sir? And what of these debates? It's the first I've heard of them."
  23. "Naturally." "It's actually a fine starting point; inaction, unresponsiveness, if the people aren't going to change themselves someone will do it for them."
  24. "I've personally led six parties to date, but Alfred makes sense. I've seen Ms. Arbour in action, I think she'd be a fine candidate."
  25. Boris sits by one of the windows watching the snow fall outside, "Wisdom and royalty are not exclusive, good sir."
